    Beneficiação de materiais geológicos: moscovite na dermocosmética

    Mestrado em Geomateriais e Recursos GeológicosO presente trabalho tem como base o estudo de um material considerado rejeitado numa exploração de caulino, e posterior beneficiação, de modo a obter-se um concentrado de moscovite para aplicação na indústria dermocosmética. Por métodos hidrogravíticos e partindo da ideia de que, devido à sua forma lamelar, os grãos de moscovite se podem separar de outros minerais através de algumas técnicas industriais e de laboratório. Pretendeu-se obter um concentrado deste mineral a partir de uma material proveniente de um local de extracção de caulino em São Vicente de Pereira Jusã e, posteriormente, procurou-se saber se a moscovite pode ser considerada como filtro solar, ou seja, se a sua absorção/reflexão de UV é compatível para ser usada na pele como protector solar. Foram ainda efectuadas análises de textura, para compreender se há variações neste factor relacionadas com o tamanho do grão ou a percentagem do mineral na amostra.This work is based on a study of a exploration material deemed rejected and further improvement in order to obtain a concentrate of muscovite for application in dermocosmetic industry. Through hidrogravitic methods and based on the idea that, because their lamellar form, muscovite grains can be separated from other minerals through some industrial and laboratory techniques. We sought to obtain a concentrate of this mineral from a kaolin exploration in São Vicente de Pereira Jusã and, later, we tried to find if the muscovite can be considered a good sunscreen, that is, if its absorption/reflection of UV is compatible for use on our skin as a sunscreen. There were also performed texture analyses, to understand whether there are variations in this factor related to the grain size or the percentage of the mineral in the sample

    A felicidade auto-percepcionada da população com 65 ou mais anos em Portugal Continental. elementos para uma caracterização sociológica a partir do European Social Survey (2002 e 2014)

    Tese de Mestrado em SociologiaA população idosa está em acelerado processo de envelhecimento demográfico e é muitas vezes apontada como frágil e doente, pouco ou nada produtiva o que provocará num futuro próximo alguma debilidade socioeconómica nas sociedades modernas. Estudos anteriores apontam para uma população com baixo grau de felicidade quando comparada com outras mais novas. Nota-se em todo o mundo uma crescente inquietação com a felicidade das populações o que nos levou a querer conhecer melhor esta população em particular. Caracterizamo-la relativamente à felicidade sentida em dois anos distintos, 2002 e 2014 e analisamos como e em que medida variou o seu grau de felicidade em função de um conjunto de indicadores sociodemográficos e a sua relação com a satisfação com a vida, bem-estar e qualidade de vida. Para a realização deste trabalho baseamo-nos nos dados do European Social Survey (ESS), um projecto de investigação do qual Portugal é membro fundador que tem por objectivo estudar as atitudes e valores sociais e políticos dos europeus. A recolha dos dados foi operacionalizada em cinco regiões do país (NUTSII) onde foram aplicados questionários à população residente com idade a partir dos 15 anos. A nossa amostra foi formada a partir da amostra total do ESS de onde retiramos todos os indivíduos com 65 ou mais anos de idade. Concluímos que os idosos que integraram este estudo auto-percepcionaram uma felicidade média moderada. Os inquiridos que fizeram parte do grupo dos mais novos (65/75 anos) sentiram mais felicidade que os mais velhos (≥76 anos), assim como os homens em relação às mulheres. Também se apresentaram como mais felizes os idosos mais escolarizados, os casados ou que viviam acompanhados, os que declaram ter uma saúde geral boa e sem sofrer de limitações físicas, mentais/psicológicas, assim como os que afirmaram ter um rendimento que lhes permitia viver confortavelmente.The elderly population is in an accelerated demographic aging process and is often referred as fragile and ill, unproductive, which will in the near future cause some socioeconomic weakness in modern societies. Previous studies point to a population with a low degree of happiness when compared to other younger ones. There is a growing concern with the happiness of the populations around the world, which led us to want to know more about this particular population. We characterized it in terms of the happiness experienced in two distinct years, 2002 and 2014, and analyzed how and to what extent its degree of happiness varied according to a set of sociodemographic indicators and its relation with satisfaction with life, well-being and quality of life. To carry out this work we are based on data from the European Social Survey (ESS), a research project of which Portugal is a founding member whose objective is to study the social and political attitudes and values of Europeans. Data collection was carried out in five regions of the country (NUTSII), where questionnaires were applied to the resident population aged 15 and over. Our sample was formed from the total ESS sample from which all individuals 65 years of age or older were removed. We conclude that the elderly in this study self-perceived a moderate average happiness. Respondents in the younger group (65/75) felt more happy than older people (≥76 years), as did men in relation to women. Also the happiest were those who were more educated, married or accompanied, who declared themselves to be in good general health and not suffering from physical, mental / psychological limitations, as well as those who stated that they had an income that allowed them to live comfortably.N/

    Molybdenum(VI) complexes with ligands derived from 5-(2-pyridyl)-2H-tetrazole as catalysts for the epoxidation of olefins

    The development of effective catalytic epoxidation processes that are an alternative to stoichiometric non-selective oxidation routes is important to meet environmental sustainability goals. In this work, molybdenum (VI) compounds bearing 5-(2-pyridyl)-2H-tetrazole derivatives as organic components, namely the ionic and neutral mononuclear complexes (H2ptz)[MoO2Cl2(ptz)] (1) and [MoO2Cl2(tBu-ptz)] (2), and the new Lindqvist-type polyoxometalate (POM) [tBu-Hptz]2[Mo6O19] (3), where Hptz = 5-(2-pyridyl)tetrazole and tBu-ptz = 2-tert- butyl-5-(2-pyridyl)- 2H-tetrazole, were studied as epoxidation catalysts using readily available and relatively ecofriendly hydroperoxide oxidants, namely hydrogen peroxide and tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP). The pre-pared catalysts were very active. For example, 100% cis-cyclooctene conversion and 100% epoxide selectivity were reached at 1 h for 1 and 3, and 10 min for 2 (with TBHP). Catalytic and characterization studies indicated that the mononuclear complexes suffered chemical transformations under the reaction conditions, whereas 3 was structurally stable. This POM acted as a homogeneous catalyst and could be recycled by employing an ionic liquid solvent. The POM can be synthesized from 2 under different conditions, including those used in the catalytic process.     A Molybdenum(VI) Complex of 5-(2-pyridyl-1-oxide)tetrazole: synthesis, structure, and transformation into a MoO3-Based hybrid catalyst for the epoxidation of Bio-Olefins

    The discovery of heterogeneous catalysts synthesized in easy, sustainable ways for the valorization of olefins derived from renewable biomass is attractive from environmental, sustainability, and economic viewpoints. Here, an organic–inorganic hybrid catalyst formulated as [MoO3 (Hpto)]·H2O (2), where Hpto = 5-(2-pyridyl-1-oxide)tetrazole, was prepared by a hydrolysis– condensation reaction of the complex [MoO2Cl2 (Hpto)]·THF (1). The characterization of 1 and 2 by FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies, as well as 13C solid-state NMR, suggests that the bidentate N,O-coordination of Hpto in 1 (forming a six-membered chelate ring, confirmed by X-ray crystallography) is maintained in 2, with the ligand coordinated to a molybdenum oxide substructure. Catalytic studies suggested that 2 is a rare case of a molybdenum oxide/organic hybrid that acts as a stable solid catalyst for olefin epoxidation with tert-butyl hydroperoxide. The catalyst was effective for converting biobased olefins, namely fatty acid methyl esters (methyl oleate, methyl linoleate, methyl linolenate, and methyl ricinoleate) and the terpene limonene, leading predominantly to the corresponding epoxide products with yields in the range of 85–100% after 24 h at 70 ◦C. The versatility of catalyst 2 was shown by its effectiveness for the oxidation of sulfides into sulfoxides and sulfones, at 35 ◦C (quantitative yield of sulfoxide plus sulfone, at 24 h; sulfone yields in the range of 77–86%).     Identification of clusters of asthma control: A preliminary analysis of the inspirers studies

All rights reserved. Aims: To identify distinct asthma control clusters based on Control of Allergic Rhinitis and Asthma Test (CARAT) and to compare patients’ characteristics among these clusters. Methods: Adults and adolescents (≥13 years) with persistent asthma were recruited at 29 Portuguese hospital outpatient clinics, in the context of two observational studies of the INSPIRERS project. Demographic and clinical characteristics, adherence to inhaled medication, beliefs about inhaled medication, anxiety and depression, quality of life, and asthma control (CARAT, >24 good control) were collected. Hierarchical cluster analysis was performed using CARAT total score (CARAT-T). Results: 410 patients (68% adults), with a median (percentile 25–percentile 75) age of 28 (16-46) years, were analysed. Three clusters were identified [mean CARAT-T (min-max)]: cluster 1 [27(24-30)], cluster 2 [19(14-23)] and cluster 3 [10(2-13)]. Patients in cluster 1 (34%) were characterised by better asthma control, better quality of life, higher inhaler adherence and use of a single inhaler. Patients in clusters 2 (50%) and 3 (16%) had uncontrolled asthma, lower inhaler adherence, more symptoms of anxiety and depression and more than half had at least one exacerbation in the previous year. Further-more, patients in cluster 3 were predominantly female, had more unscheduled medical visits and more anxiety symp-toms, perceived a higher necessity of their prescribed inhalers but also higher levels of concern about taking these inhalers. There were no differences in age, body mass index, lung function, smoking status, hospital admissions or specialist physician follow-up time among the three clusters. Conclusion: An unsupervised method based on CARAT--T, identified 3 clusters of patients with distinct, clinically meaningful characteristics. The cluster with better asthma control had a cut-off similar to the established in the validation study of CARAT and an additional cut-off seems to distinguish more severe disease.     MAMMALS IN PORTUGAL : A data set of terrestrial, volant, and marine mammal occurrences in P ortugal

    Mammals are threatened worldwide, with 26% of all species being includedin the IUCN threatened categories. This overall pattern is primarily associatedwith habitat loss or degradation, and human persecution for terrestrial mam-mals, and pollution, open net fishing, climate change, and prey depletion formarine mammals. Mammals play a key role in maintaining ecosystems func-tionality and resilience, and therefore information on their distribution is cru-cial to delineate and support conservation actions. MAMMALS INPORTUGAL is a publicly available data set compiling unpublishedgeoreferenced occurrence records of 92 terrestrial, volant, and marine mam-mals in mainland Portugal and archipelagos of the Azores and Madeira thatincludes 105,026 data entries between 1873 and 2021 (72% of the data occur-ring in 2000 and 2021). The methods used to collect the data were: live obser-vations/captures (43%), sign surveys (35%), camera trapping (16%),bioacoustics surveys (4%) and radiotracking, and inquiries that represent lessthan 1% of the records. The data set includes 13 types of records: (1) burrowsjsoil moundsjtunnel, (2) capture, (3) colony, (4) dead animaljhairjskullsjjaws, (5) genetic confirmation, (6) inquiries, (7) observation of live animal (8),observation in shelters, (9) photo trappingjvideo, (10) predators dietjpelletsjpine cones/nuts, (11) scatjtrackjditch, (12) telemetry and (13) vocalizationjecholocation. The spatial uncertainty of most records ranges between 0 and100 m (76%).     A matéria-prima de que trata esta revista é base de trabalho para um ensino artístico alargado, estendendo-se fora dos limites da aula, transgredindo os limites formais dos curricula, implicando património e riqueza cultural, sensibilizando para o imaterial, criando públicos apreciadores e também agentes criadores. É toda uma comunidade que se interliga através dos valores imateriais que sempre foram os da arte. A tarefa do educador é muito alargada: exige-se que esteja à altura deste desígnio humanista, que é também um desafio ao destino da humanidade: pela educação artística constroem-se futuros, e sem arte há intolerância, materialismo, indiferença, alienação, morte. Os tempos que se vivem são exigentes. As questões da pós modernidade estão muito acesas, desde as que nos obrigam ao desassossego, como a sustentabilidade e a poluição, como as que nos implicam politicamente, como a justiça, os direitos civis, a desigualdade. Tudo isto é matéria com a qual se amassa um barro que pode ser mais ou menos criativo: trata-se de extrair a matéria-prima com que se pode fazer os blocos que constroem o futuro. Aos profissionais da educação e do ensino, esta consciência, ao mesmo tempo desamparada – os cortes da economia neoliberal transformaram a arte em indústria, e a sua educação em criação de consumidores – e ao mesmo tempo vigilante e interventiva. Os artigos que responderam a esta chamada, respondem, cada um a seu modo, a este desassossego, a este desconforto, a este mal-estar contemporâneo. Dispuseram-se segundo uma sequência que se articula com base em temas afins que se podem descrever sucintamente: Todos os que participaram neste número mostraram a sua matéria-prima, a sua reação à falta que a arte nos faz. A chamada soa, e ressoa, e é necessário que seja por todos ouvida, em todos os países. É simples: as artes estão em perigo. Perigo porque há menos horas, menos professores, menos opções, menos conhecimento. As reduções no horário, a eliminação de disciplinas tão importantes como a história da arte, fazem de cada professor um agente da resistência, um ser mais implicado na sobrevivência da chama da criação. Matéria-prima: matéria para resgatar a verdade humana, a arte, a expressão mais valiosa da sua vaidade.     Um complexo de tetrazolato 5-(2-Pyridyl) de Molbdenum(VI), sua estrutura e transformação para um catalisador heterogêneo híbrido baseado em óxido de Molbdenum para a Epóxidação de Olefins

    There is a considerable practical interest in discovering new ways to obtain organomolybdenum heterogeneous catalysts for olefin epoxidation that are easier to recover and reuse and display enhanced productivity. In this study, the complex salt (H2pytz)[MoO2Cl2 (pytz)] (1) (Hpytz = 5-(2-pyridyl)tetrazole) has been prepared, structurally characterized, and employed as a precursor for the hydrolysis-based synthesis of a microcrystalline molybdenum oxide/organic hybrid material formulated as [MoO3 (Hpytz)] (2). In addition to single-crystal X-ray diffraction (for 1), compounds 1 and 2 were characterized by FT-IR and Raman spectroscopies, solid-state 13C{1H} cross-polarization (CP) magic-angle spinning (MAS) NMR, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Compounds 1 and 2 were evaluated as olefin epoxidation catalysts using the model reaction of cis-cyclooctene (Cy8) with tert-butyl hydroperoxide (TBHP), at 70 ◦C, which gave 100% epoxide selectivity up to 100% conversion. While 1 behaved as a homogeneous catalyst, hybrid 2 behaved as a heterogeneous catalyst and could be recovered for recycling without showing structural degradation or loss of catalytic performance over consecutive reaction cycles. The substrate scope was broadened to monoterpene DL-limonene (Lim) and biobased unsaturated fatty acid methyl esters, methyl oleate (MeOle), and methyl linoleate (MeLin), which gave predominantly epoxide products.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
