Exogenous application of plant growth regulators induce chilling tolerance in direct seeded super and non-super rice seedlings through modulations in morpho-physiological attributes
Recently, super rice has gained much importance due to its high yield potential while exogenous application of plant growth regulators (PGRs) is an important aspect in plant development and defense responses under stress conditions. In this study we conducted two pot experiments. Firstly, four super rice cultivars, viz. Peizataifeng, Huayou 213, Yuxiangyouzhan and Huahang 31 were subjected to a series of five chilling temperatures, i.e. 11 °C, 12 °C, 13 °C, 14 °C and 15 °C (day/night) for about 25–27 days. Secondly, seeds of Peizataifeng (super rice) and Yuejingsimiao 2 (non-super rice) were then treated with different combinations of salicylic acid (SA), brassinolide (BR), calcium chloride (CaCl2) and fulvic acid (FA) and then exposed to chilling stress at 13 °C for four days. Resultantly, Peizataifen (super rice) was found with the lowest seedling survival rate at all chilling temperatures among all four super rice cultivars, however, it was still found more resistant when compared with Yuejingsimiao 2 (non-super rice) in the second experiment. Furthermore synergistic effect of all PGRs alleviated low temperature stress in both rice cultivars by improving seedling survival rates, leaf area, seedling dry weight, seedling height, root morphology and by modulating antioxidant enzymes, improving proline content and lowering lipid peroxidation
Temperature dependence of current self-oscillations and electric field domains in sequential tunneling doped superlattices
We examine how the current--voltage characteristics of a doped weakly coupled
superlattice depends on temperature. The drift velocity of a discrete drift
model of sequential tunneling in a doped GaAs/AlAs superlattice is calculated
as a function of temperature. Numerical simulations and theoretical arguments
show that increasing temperature favors the appearance of current
self-oscillations at the expense of static electric field domain formation. Our
findings agree with available experimental evidence.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figure
Severity of cardiomyopathy associated with adenine nucleotide translocator-1 deficiency correlates with mtDNA haplogroup
Mutations of both nuclear and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA)-encoded mitochondrial proteins can cause cardiomyopathy associated with mitochondrial dysfunction. Hence, the cardiac phenotype of nuclear DNA mitochondrial mutations might be modulated by mtDNA variation. We studied a 13-generation Mennonite pedigree with autosomal recessive myopathy and cardiomyopathy due to an SLC25A4 frameshift null mutation (c.523delC, p.Q175RfsX38), which codes for the heart-muscle isoform of the adenine nucleotide translocator-1. Ten homozygous null (adenine nucleotide translocator-1(-/-)) patients monitored over a median of 6 years had a phenotype of progressive myocardial thickening, hyperalaninemia, lactic acidosis, exercise intolerance, and persistent adrenergic activation. Electrocardiography and echocardiography with velocity vector imaging revealed abnormal contractile mechanics, myocardial repolarization abnormalities, and impaired left ventricular relaxation. End-stage heart disease was characterized by massive, symmetric, concentric cardiac hypertrophy; widespread cardiomyocyte degeneration; overabundant and structurally abnormal mitochondria; extensive subendocardial interstitial fibrosis; and marked hypertrophy of arteriolar smooth muscle. Substantial variability in the progression and severity of heart disease segregated with maternal lineage, and sequencing of mtDNA from five maternal lineages revealed two major European haplogroups, U and H. Patients with the haplogroup U mtDNAs had more rapid and severe cardiomyopathy than those with haplogroup H
EGAM Induced by Energetic-electrons and Nonlinear Interactions among EGAM, BAEs and Tearing Modes in a Toroidal Plasma
In this letter, it is reported that the first experimental results are
associated with the GAM induced by energetic electrons (eEGAM) in HL-2A Ohmic
plasma. The energetic-electrons are generated by parallel electric fields
during magnetic reconnection associated with tearing mode (TM). The eEGAM
localizes in the core plasma, i.e. in the vicinity of q=2 surface, and is very
different from one excited by the drift-wave turbulence in the edge plasma. The
analysis indicated that the eEGAM is provided with the magnetic components,
whose intensities depend on the poloidal angles, and its mode numbers are
jm/nj=2/0. Further, there exist intense nonlinear interactions among eEGAM,
BAEs and strong tearing modes (TMs). These new findings shed light on the
underlying physics mechanism for the excitation of the low frequency (LF)
Alfv\'enic and acoustic uctuations.Comment: 5 pages,4 figure
The energy spectrum of all-particle cosmic rays around the knee region observed with the Tibet-III air-shower array
We have already reported the first result on the all-particle spectrum around
the knee region based on data from 2000 November to 2001 October observed by
the Tibet-III air-shower array. In this paper, we present an updated result
using data set collected in the period from 2000 November through 2004 October
in a wide range over 3 decades between eV and eV, in which
the position of the knee is clearly seen at around 4 PeV. The spectral index is
-2.68 0.02(stat.) below 1PeV, while it is -3.12 0.01(stat.) above 4
PeV in the case of QGSJET+HD model, and various systematic errors are under

High Altitude test of RPCs for the ARGO-YBJ experiment
A 50 m**2 RPC carpet was operated at the YangBaJing Cosmic Ray Laboratory
(Tibet) located 4300 m a.s.l. The performance of RPCs in detecting Extensive
Air Showers was studied. Efficiency and time resolution measurements at the
pressure and temperature conditions typical of high mountain laboratories, are

Properties of a general quaternion-valued gradient operator and its applications to signal processing
The gradients of a quaternion-valued function are often required for quaternionic signal processing algorithms. The HR gradient operator provides a viable framework and has found a number of applications. However, the applications so far have been limited to mainly real-valued quaternion functions and linear quaternionvalued functions. To generalize the operator to nonlinear quaternion functions, we define a restricted version of the HR operator, which comes in two versions, the left and the right ones. We then present a detailed analysis of the properties of the operators, including several different product rules and chain rules. Using the new rules, we derive explicit expressions for the derivatives of a class of regular nonlinear quaternion-valued functions, and prove that the restricted HR gradients are consistent with the gradients in the real domain. As an application, the derivation of the least mean square algorithm and a nonlinear adaptive algorithm is provided. Simulation results based on vector sensor arrays are presented as an example to demonstrate the effectiveness of the quaternion-valued signal model and the derived signal processing algorithm
Filtering and Tracking with Trinion-Valued Adaptive Algorithms
A new model for three-dimensional processes based on the trinion algebra is introduced for the first time. Compared
with the pure quaternion model, the trinion model is more compact and computationally more efficient, while having similar or
comparable performance in terms of adaptive linear filtering. Moreover, the trinion model can effectively represent the general
relationship of state evolution in Kalman filtering, where the pure quaternion model fails. Simulations on real-world wind
recordings and synthetic data sets are provided to demonstrate the potentials of this new modeling method
