entrevistas a estudiantes y profesores.
(Aprendizaje), Mundo TINKUY (Convivencia), Mundo WASI (Residencial) y
Mundo PUJLLAY (Expresión corporal), junto con el entorno y la comunidad.
De esta manera lograr la eficiente aplicación del modelo educativo
especializado con una arquitectura innovadora y ecoeficiente
Topological Magnon Bands in a Kagome Lattice Ferromagnet
There is great interest in finding materials possessing quasiparticles with topological properties. Such materials may have novel excitations that exist on their boundaries which are protected against disorder. We report experimental evidence that magnons in an insulating kagome ferromagnet can have a topological band structure. Our neutron scattering measurements further reveal that one of the bands is flat due to the unique geometry of the kagome lattice. Spin wave calculations show that the measured band structure follows from a simple Heisenberg Hamiltonian with a Dzyaloshinkii-Moriya interaction. This serves as the first realization of an effectively two-dimensional topological magnon insulator—a new class of magnetic material that should display both a magnon Hall effect and protected chiral edge modes.United States. A Cu2+ (S = 1/2) Kagom\'e Antiferromagnet: MgxCu4-x(OH)6Cl2
Spin-frustrated systems are one avenue for inducing macroscopic quantum
states in materials. However, experimental realization of this goal has been
difficult because of the lack of simple materials and, if available, the
separation of the unusual magnetic properties arising from exotic magnetic
states from behavior associated with chemical disorder, such as site mixing.
Here we report the synthesis and magnetic properties of a new series of
magnetically frustrated materials, MgxCu4-x(OH)6Cl2. Because of the
substantially different ligand-field chemistry of Mg2+ and Cu2+, site disorder
within the kagom\'e layers is minimized, as directly measured by X-ray
diffraction. Our results reveal that many of the properties of these materials
and related systems are not due to disorder of the magnetic lattice but rather
reflect an unusual ground state.Comment: Accepted for publication in J. Am. Chem. Soc

Circular Polymerase Extension Cloning of Complex Gene Libraries and Pathways
High-throughput genomics and the emerging field of synthetic biology demand ever more convenient, economical, and efficient technologies to assemble and clone genes, gene libraries and synthetic pathways. Here, we describe the development of a novel and extremely simple cloning method, circular polymerase extension cloning (CPEC). This method uses a single polymerase to assemble and clone multiple inserts with any vector in a one-step reaction in vitro. No restriction digestion, ligation, or single-stranded homologous recombination is required. In this study, we elucidate the CPEC reaction mechanism and demonstrate its usage in demanding synthetic biology applications such as one-step assembly and cloning of complex combinatorial libraries and multi-component pathways

Activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis by exogenous and endogenous GDF15.
An acute increase in the circulating concentration of glucocorticoid hormones is essential for the survival of severe somatic stresses. Circulating concentrations of GDF15, a hormone that acts in the brain to reduce food intake, are frequently elevated in stressful states. We now report that GDF15 potently activates the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis in mice and rats. A blocking antibody to the GDNF-family receptor α-like receptor completely prevented the corticosterone response to GDF15 administration. In wild-type mice exposed to a range of stressful stimuli, circulating levels of both corticosterone and GDF15 rose acutely. In the case of Escherichia coli or lipopolysaccharide injections, the vigorous proinflammatory cytokine response elicited was sufficient to produce a near-maximal HPA response, regardless of the presence or absence of GDF15. In contrast, the activation of the HPA axis seen in wild-type mice in response to the administration of genotoxic or endoplasmic reticulum toxins, which do not provoke a marked rise in cytokines, was absent in Gdf15 -/- mice. In conclusion, consistent with its proposed role as a sentinel hormone, endogenous GDF15 is required for the activation of the protective HPA response to toxins that do not induce a substantial cytokine response. In the context of efforts to develop GDF15 as an antiobesity therapeutic, these findings identify a biomarker of target engagement and a previously unrecognized pharmacodynamic effect, which will require monitoring in human studies
