Validation of the Commercial Sexual Exploitation-Identification Tool

Trafficked youth are typically not identified until years after their exploitation has begun. In order to protect youth from prolonged abuse and violence and get them help, exploitation must be recognized as early as possible. To make this possible, service providers and other professionals who work with youth need a validated screening tool to aid in accurately detecting exploitation.the cse-it is an evidence based toolIn 2014, WestCoast Children's Clinic developed the Commercial Sexual Exploitation – Identification Tool (CSE-IT) with the input of over 100 survivors and service providers. In 2016, we validated the CSE-IT with data from a 15-month pilot to ensure that it accurately identifies youth who have clear indicators of exploitation. Since 2015 we have worked collaboratively with 77 agencies in 3 states to use the CSE-IT. As of June 2017, WestCoast has trained 4,000 service providers to recognize the signs of exploitation. These providers screened 12,500 youth and identified 1,500 youth with clear indicators of exploitation

2004 Coastal Conservation Outreach

The Seacoast Land Trust mission is to actively promote and effect the protection and stewardship of open lands in the Seacoast. Since our founding in 1998, programs and outings have been an essential part of the organizations activities. Through our programs we strive to raise the awareness about the importance of land conservation and land stewardship. The grant funding allowed us to offer a wide range of programs and activities and to focus on the importance of protection to our coastal habitats and wetland resources. The programs involved participants with a wide range of ages and interests and included concerned citizens, municipal and conservation leaders, students, and members of civic organizations. Highlights of these activities, their turnout and comments from participants are presented below. In all of these programs Seacoast Land Trust presented information on its current land protection programs and land conservation success stories as part of the activities. A presentation of mapping of the lands within the SLT service area, previously funded by the New Hampshire Estuaries Project and the New Hampshire Coastal Program was also displayed at each event. We ended up adding three additional programs and activities above the ten activities/programs originally proposed

L2L^2 Asymptotics for High-Dimensional Data

We develop an asymptotic theory for $L^2$ norms of sample mean vectors of high-dimensional data. An invariance principle for the $L^2$ norms is derived under conditions that involve a delicate interplay between the dimension $p$, the sample size $n$ and the moment condition. Under proper normalization, central and non-central limit theorems are obtained. To facilitate the related statistical inference, we propose a plug-in calibration method and a re-sampling procedure to approximate the distributions of the $L^2$ norms. Our results are applied to multiple tests and inference of covariance matrix structures.Comment: 3

The economic forces driving the costs of food safety regulation

The cost of compliance with the Pathogen Reduction Hazard Analysis Critical Control Program (PR/HACCP) rule of 1996 has been controversial from the time it was first proposed. Recent survey evidence indicates costs of about $0.01 per pound. These estimates may capture actual costs but do not indicate how different components of the rule itself, such as HACCP tasks, and indirect influences, such as plant size, affect costs differently. The purpose of this paper is to empirically examine these direct and indirect influences. Preliminary results suggest that plant size has a small, if any influence on costs. NATURAL HISTORY AND MERISTICS OF AN ALLOPATRIC POPULATION OF RED CORNSNAKES, PANTHEROPHIS GUTTATUS (LINNAEUS, 1766) IN CENTRAL KENTUCKY, USA

Life history, morphological variation, and basic biology of Pantherophis guttatus (Linnaeus, 1766), the Red Cornsnake, are not well known, particularly for the allopatric populations in Kentucky. To address some of the information gaps for this species, we report field observations, including activity patterns, reproduction, and meristics of P. guttatus in Kentucky. In 2003 and 2004 we conducted field surveys using drift fences, artificial cover, manual searching, and driving on roads and captured 101 P. guttatus in Edmonson and Hart counties, Kentucky. We found that artificial cover was the best method of detection with 77% of snakes captured using this method. Numbers of encounters peaked in April-May and August-September suggesting bimodal activity patterns similar to other colubrid snakes. Males had signifi cantly higher subcaudal scale counts than females while females had significantly higher ventral scale counts than males. We detected more individuals in 2003 than in 2004, most likely influenced by severe drought conditions in Kentucky during 2004. Size-class distribution of snakes was skewed towards large individuals (> 70 cm SVL). The absence of individuals in juvenile size classes (30 cm -70 cm) may be an artifact of lower detection probabilities for smaller size classes, different habitat use by juveniles, or may indicate low recruitment

In this article I present the use of the broad concept of trafficking in the Buying Sex Is Not a Sport campaign, launched by the Coalition Against Trafficking in Women (CATW) against German regulation of prostitution configuring prostitution as sex work. I trace the development of this 2006 campaign in which conservative and social-democratic parties, churches and anti-globalization organizations joined together at the international level. Finally, I trace the ideological and political reasons for the convergence of left-wing and right-wing forces, along with the analysis of some leftist theoretical texts on prostitution
