    A Cluster Approach for the modelling of the layer-by-layer growth of SiC polytypes

    10 pagesInternational audienceA cluster approach has been designed in order to confirm the physical bases of a previously presented dynamical model for chemical vapor deposition-chemical vapor infiltration SiC growth (Vignoles, G. L. J. Cryst. Growth 1992, 118, 430). The clusters consist of two or three Si-C bilayers; the relaxation of the bond lengths in the upper bilayer of the clusters simulates the impingement of a new bilayer on the crystal surface. The quantities relevant to the model (energies and optimized geometries) have been calculated at the semiempirical level. The use of regular series of clusters allowed us to obtain extrapolated values for infinite surfaces. Qualitative agreement has been obtained between the cluster calculations and the assumptions made for the dynamical model

    Microscopic Model for High-spin vs. Low-spin ground state in [Ni2M(CN)8][Ni_2{M(CN)_8]} (M=MoV,WV,NbIVM=Mo^V, W^V, Nb^{IV}) magnetic clusters

    Conventional superexchange rules predict ferromagnetic exchange interaction between Ni(II) and M (M=Mo(V), W(V), Nb(IV)). Recent experiments show that in some systems this superexchange is antiferromagnetic. To understand this feature, in this paper we develop a microscopic model for Ni(II)-M systems and solve it exactly using a valence bond approach. We identify the direct exchange coupling, the splitting of the magnetic orbitals and the inter-orbital electron repulsions, on the M site as the parameters which control the ground state spin of various clusters of the Ni(II)-M system. We present quantum phase diagrams which delineate the high-spin and low-spin ground states in the parameter space. We fit the spin gap to a spin Hamiltonian and extract the effective exchange constant within the experimentally observed range, for reasonable parameter values. We also find a region in the parameter space where an intermediate spin state is the ground state. These results indicate that the spin spectrum of the microscopic model cannot be reproduced by a simple Heisenberg exchange Hamiltonian.Comment: 8 pages including 7 figure

    Migrating GWT to Angular 6 using MDE

    International audienceIn the context of a collaboration with Berger-Levrault, a major IT company, we are working on the migration of a GWT application to Angular. We focus on the GUI aspect of this migration which, even if both are web frameworks, is made difficult because they use different programming languages (Java for one, Typescript for the other) and different organization schemas (e.g. different XML files). Moreover, the new application must mimic closely the visual aspect of the old one so that the users of the application are not disturbed. We propose an approach in three steps that uses a meta-model to represent the GUI at a high abstraction level. We evaluated this approach on an application comprising 470 Java (GWT) classes representing 56 screens. We are able to model all the web pages of the application and 93% of the wid-gets they contain, and we successfully migrated (i.e., the result is visually equal to the original) 26 out of 39 pages (66%). We give examples of the migrated pages, both successful and not

    An empirical model for continuous and weighted metric aggregation

    International audienceIt is now understood that software metrics alone are not enough to characterize software quality. To cope with this problem, most of advanced and/or industrially validated quality models aggregate software metrics: for example, cy- clomatic complexity is combined with test coverage to stress the fact that it is more important to cover complex methods than accessors. Yet, aggregating and weighting metrics to produce quality indexes is a difficult task. Indeed certain weighting approaches may lead to abnormal situations where a developer increasing the quality of a software component sees the overall quality degrade. Finally, mapping combinations of metric values to quality indexes may be a problem when using thresholds. In this paper, we present the problems we faced when designing the Squale quality model, then we present an empirical solution based on weighted aggregations and on continuous functions. The solution has been termed the Squale quality model and validated over 4 years with two large multinational companies: Air France-KLM and PSA Peugeot- Citroen

    First Results of the 140^{140}Ce(n,Îł)141^{141}Ce Cross-Section Measurement at n_TOF

    An accurate measurement of the 140^{140}Ce(n,Îł) energy-dependent cross-section was performed at the n_TOF facility at CERN. This cross-section is of great importance because it represents a bottleneck for the s-process nucleosynthesis and determines to a large extent the cerium abundance in stars. The measurement was motivated by the significant difference between the cerium abundance measured in globular clusters and the value predicted by theoretical stellar models. This discrepancy can be ascribed to an overestimation of the 140^{140}Ce capture cross-section due to a lack of accurate nuclear data. For this measurement, we used a sample of cerium oxide enriched in 140^{140}Ce to 99.4%. The experimental apparatus consisted of four deuterated benzene liquid scintillator detectors, which allowed us to overcome the difficulties present in the previous measurements, thanks to their very low neutron sensitivity. The accurate analysis of the p-wave resonances and the calculation of their average parameters are fundamental to improve the evaluation of the 140^{140}Ce Maxwellian-averaged cross-section
