    UniMSE: Towards Unified Multimodal Sentiment Analysis and Emotion Recognition

    Multimodal sentiment analysis (MSA) and emotion recognition in conversation (ERC) are key research topics for computers to understand human behaviors. From a psychological perspective, emotions are the expression of affect or feelings during a short period, while sentiments are formed and held for a longer period. However, most existing works study sentiment and emotion separately and do not fully exploit the complementary knowledge behind the two. In this paper, we propose a multimodal sentiment knowledge-sharing framework (UniMSE) that unifies MSA and ERC tasks from features, labels, and models. We perform modality fusion at the syntactic and semantic levels and introduce contrastive learning between modalities and samples to better capture the difference and consistency between sentiments and emotions. Experiments on four public benchmark datasets, MOSI, MOSEI, MELD, and IEMOCAP, demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method and achieve consistent improvements compared with state-of-the-art methods.Comment: Accepted to EMNLP 2022 main conferenc

    Fault Diagnosis of Motor Bearing by Analyzing a Video Clip

    Conventional bearing fault diagnosis methods require specialized instruments to acquire signals that can reflect the health condition of the bearing. For instance, an accelerometer is used to acquire vibration signals, whereas an encoder is used to measure motor shaft speed. This study proposes a new method for simplifying the instruments for motor bearing fault diagnosis. Specifically, a video clip recording of a running bearing system is captured using a cellphone that is equipped with a camera and a microphone. The recorded video is subsequently analyzed to obtain the instantaneous frequency of rotation (IFR). The instantaneous fault characteristic frequency (IFCF) of the defective bearing is obtained by analyzing the sound signal that is recorded by the microphone. The fault characteristic order is calculated by dividing IFCF by IFR to identify the fault type of the bearing. The effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method are verified by a series of experiments. This study provides a simple, flexible, and effective solution for motor bearing fault diagnosis. Given that the signals are gathered using an affordable and accessible cellphone, the proposed method is proven suitable for diagnosing the health conditions of bearing systems that are located in remote areas where specialized instruments are unavailable or limited

    Birational cobordism invariance of uniruled symplectic manifolds

    A symplectic manifold (M,ω)(M,\omega) is called {\em (symplectically) uniruled} if there is a nonzero genus zero GW invariant involving a point constraint. We prove that symplectic uniruledness is invariant under symplectic blow-up and blow-down. This theorem follows from a general Relative/Absolute correspondence for a symplectic manifold together with a symplectic submanifold. A direct consequence is that symplectic uniruledness is a symplectic birational invariant.     Uniaxial ferromagnetism in the kagome metal TbV6{_6}Sn6{_6}

    The synthesis and characterization of the vanadium-based kagome metal TbV6{_6}Sn6{_6} is presented. X-ray measurements confirm this material forms with the same crystal structure type as the recently investigated kagome metals GdV6_6Sn6_6 and YV6_6Sn6_6, with space group symmetry P6/mmm. A signature of a phase transition at 4.1K is observed in heat capacity, resistivity, and magnetic susceptibility measurements, and both resistivity and magnetization measurements exhibit hysteresis in magnetic field. Furthermore, a strikingly large anisotropy in the magnetic susceptibility was observed, with the c-axis susceptibility nearly 100 times the ab plane susceptibility at 2K. This is highly suggestive of uniaxial ferromagnetism, and the large size of 9.4μb\mu_b/f.u. indicates the Tb3+^{3+} 4f4f electronic moments cooperatively align perpendicular to the V kagome lattice plane. The entropy at the phase transition is nearly Rln(2), indicating that the CEF ground state of the Tb3+^{3+} ion is a doublet, and therefore the sublattice of 4f4f electrons in this material can be shown to map at low temperatures to the Ising model in a D6h_{6h} symmetry environment. Hall measurements at temperatures from 300K to 1.7K can be described by two-band carrier transport at temperatures below around 150K, with a large increase in both hole and electron mobilities, similar to YV6_6Sn6_6, and an anomalous Hall effect is seen below the ordering temperature. Angle-resolved photoemission measurements above the magnetic ordering temperature reveal typical kagome dispersions. Our study presents TbV6{_6}Sn6{_6} as an ideal system to study the interplay between Ising ferromagnetism and non-trivial electronic states emerging from a kagome lattice

    Social Determinants of Community Health Services Utilization among the Users in China: A 4-Year Cross-Sectional Study

    Background To identify social factors determining the frequency of community health service (CHS) utilization among CHS users in China. Methods Nationwide cross-sectional surveys were conducted in 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011. A total of 86,116 CHS visitors selected from 35 cities were interviewed. Descriptive analysis and multinomial logistic regression analysis were employed to analyze characteristics of CHS users, frequency of CHS utilization, and the socio-demographic and socio-economic factors influencing frequency of CHS utilization. Results Female and senior CHS clients were more likely to make 3–5 and ≥6 CHS visits (as opposed to 1–2 visits) than male and young clients, respectively. CHS clients with higher education were less frequent users than individuals with primary education or less in 2008 and 2009; in later surveys, CHS clients with higher education were the more frequent users. The association between frequent CHS visits and family income has changed significantly between 2008 and 2011. In 2011, income status did not have a discernible effect on the likelihood of making ≥6 CHS visits, and it only had a slight effect on making 3–5 CHS visits. Conclusion CHS may play an important role in providing primary health care to meet the demands of vulnerable populations in China. Over time, individuals with higher education are increasingly likely to make frequent CHS visits than individuals with primary school education or below.     Analysis of factors influencing the outpatient workload at Chinese health centres

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>Although the community health service system is now established in China, the utilisation of the community health service institutions is low due to the lack of a gate-keeping role of the primary health service providers and referrals among the three-tiered health service institutions. In addition to this, patients who can afford to pay, often seek best services in big hospitals to guarantee the quality of care. Thus, the need of guiding the patients to the community health services and increasing the utilisation of the community health service institutions is becoming an urgent problem, which hinders the future development of community health services. This study focuses on the question of how to increase the utilisation of Chinese community health centres (HCs).</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>A cross-sectional Base-line Survey of Chinese City Community Health Service System Building using the multi-staged cluster sampling was conducted to collect data from all HCs in 28 key contact cities. Relevant indicators of totally 1790 HCs were analysed. The statistical methods included ANONVA and logistic regression.</p> <p>Results and Conclusions</p> <p>The analysis suggested several key factors for increasing the outpatient workload (OW) at the HCs: establishing an adequate referral system among the different levels of the health system; enhancing the qualification of health personnel and increasing the compensation by the health insurance for services provided at HCs. Other key factors with a positive effect on the OW included: the government ownership of the HCs, the scale of the institutions, the medical equipment used, the mix of health services provided, and the women in childbearing age in the residence.</p

    Structural characterization of helitrons and their stepwise capturing of gene fragments in the maize genome

    <p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>As a newly identified category of DNA transposon, <it>helitrons </it>have been found in a large number of eukaryotes genomes. <it>Helitrons </it>have contributed significantly to the intra-specific genome diversity in maize. Although many characteristics of <it>helitrons </it>in the maize genome have been well documented, the sequence of an intact autonomous <it>helitrons </it>has not been identified in maize. In addition, the process of gene fragment capturing during the transposition of <it>helitrons </it>has not been characterized.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The whole genome sequences of maize inbred line B73 were analyzed, 1,649 <it>helitron</it>-like transposons including 1,515 helAs and 134 helBs were identified. <it>ZmhelA1</it>, <it>ZmhelB1 </it>and <it>ZmhelB2 </it>all encode an open reading frame (ORF) with intact replication initiator (Rep) motif and a DNA helicase (Hel) domain, which are similar to previously reported autonomous <it>helitrons </it>in other organisms. The putative autonomous <it>ZmhelB1 </it>and <it>ZmhelB2 </it>contain an extra replication factor-a protein1 (RPA1) transposase (RPA-TPase) including three single strand DNA-binding domains (DBD)-A/-B/-C in the ORF. Over ninety percent of maize <it>helitrons </it>identified have captured gene fragments. HelAs and helBs carry 4,645 and 249 gene fragments, which yield 2,507 and 187 different genes respectively. Many <it>helitrons </it>contain mutilple terminal sequences, but only one 3'-terminal sequence had an intact "CTAG" motif. There were no significant differences in the 5'-termini sequence between the veritas terminal sequence and the pseudo sequence. <it>Helitrons </it>not only can capture fragments, but were also shown to lose internal sequences during the course of transposing.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>Three putative autonomous elements were identified, which encoded an intact Rep motif and a DNA helicase domain, suggesting that autonomous <it>helitrons </it>may exist in modern maize. The results indicate that gene fragments captured during the transposition of many <it>helitrons </it>happen in a stepwise way, with multiple gene fragments within one <it>helitron </it>resulting from several sequential transpositions. In addition, we have proposed a potential mechanism regarding how <it>helitrons </it>with multiple termini are generated.</p

    Hedgehog-Regulated Ubiquitination Controls Smoothened Trafficking and Cell Surface Expression in Drosophila

    Hedgehog transduces signal by promoting cell surface expression of the seven-transmembrane protein Smoothened (Smo) in Drosophila, but the underlying mechanism remains unknown. Here we demonstrate that Smo is downregulated by ubiquitin-mediated endocytosis and degradation, and that Hh increases Smo cell surface expression by inhibiting its ubiquitination. We find that Smo is ubiquitinated at multiple Lysine residues including those in its autoinhibitory domain (SAID), leading to endocytosis and degradation of Smo by both lysosome- and proteasome-dependent mechanisms. Hh inhibits Smo ubiquitination via PKA/CK1-mediated phosphorylation of SAID, leading to Smo cell surface accumulation. Inactivation of the ubiquitin activating enzyme Uba1 or perturbation of multiple components of the endocytic machinery leads to Smo accumulation and Hh pathway activation. In addition, we find that the non-visual β-arrestin Kurtz (Krz) interacts with Smo and acts in parallel with ubiquitination to downregulate Smo. Finally, we show that Smo ubiquitination is counteracted by the deubiquitinating enzyme UBPY/USP8. Gain and loss of UBPY lead to reciprocal changes in Smo cell surface expression. Taken together, our results suggest that ubiquitination plays a key role in the downregulation of Smo to keep Hh pathway activity off in the absence of the ligand, and that Hh-induced phosphorylation promotes Smo cell surface accumulation by inhibiting its ubiquitination, which contributes to Hh pathway activation

    MUSiC : a model-unspecific search for new physics in proton-proton collisions at root s=13TeV

    Results of the Model Unspecific Search in CMS (MUSiC), using proton-proton collision data recorded at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb(-1), are presented. The MUSiC analysis searches for anomalies that could be signatures of physics beyond the standard model. The analysis is based on the comparison of observed data with the standard model prediction, as determined from simulation, in several hundred final states and multiple kinematic distributions. Events containing at least one electron or muon are classified based on their final state topology, and an automated search algorithm surveys the observed data for deviations from the prediction. The sensitivity of the search is validated using multiple methods. No significant deviations from the predictions have been observed. For a wide range of final state topologies, agreement is found between the data and the standard model simulation. This analysis complements dedicated search analyses by significantly expanding the range of final states covered using a model independent approach with the largest data set to date to probe phase space regions beyond the reach of previous general searches.Peer reviewe
