Unselective regrowth of 1.5-μm InGaAsP multiple-quantum-well distributed-feedback buried heterostructure lasers
Unselective regrowth for fabricating 1.5-μm InGaAsP multiple-quantum well (MQW) distributed-feedback (DFB) buried heterostructure (BH) lasers is developed. The experimental results exhibit superior characteristics, such as a low threshold of 8.5mA, high slope efficiency of 0.55mW∕mA, circular-like far-field patterns, the narrow linewidth of 2.5MHz, etc. The high performance of the devices effectively proves the feasibility of the new method to fabricate buried heterostructure lasers
Spinor Field Realizations of Non-critical Strings
In this paper, we construct the nilpotent Becchi-Rouet-Stora-Tyutin()
charges of spinor non-critical strings. The cases of are
discussed in detail, and spinor realization for is given explicitly. The
charges are graded.Comment: 9 pages, no figure
Spinor field realizations of the non-critical string based on the linear algebra
In this paper, we investigate the spinor field realizations of the
algebra, making use of the fact that the algebra can be linearized
through the addition of a spin-1 current. And then the nilpotent BRST charges
of the spinor non-critical string were built with these realizations.Comment: 10 pages, no figures, revtex4 style, accepted by Commun.Theor.Phy
Proteomic analysis of the rat ovary following chronic low-dose exposure to 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD)
2,3,7,8-Tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD) is a ubiquitously distributed endocrine-disrupting chemical and reproductive toxicant. In order to elucidate low-dose TCDD-mediated effects on reproductive or endocrine functions, female Sprague-Dawley rats were orally administered various concentrations (20, 50, or 125 ng/kg once weekly) TCDD for 29 wk. A proteomic analysis of the ovaries by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) tandem mass spectrometry showed distinct changes in the levels of several proteins that are relevant markers of TCDD toxicity. Serum estradiol (E2) levels of TCDD-treated animals were markedly lower than control. There were no significant differences in bone mineral density (BMD) of femurs. The body weight of the 125-ng/kg TCDD group was significantly decreased relative to control and there was also a significant reduction in absolute and relative ovarian weights. Expressions of selenium binding protein 2, glutathione S-transferase mu type 3, Lrpap1 protein, NADPH, and peptidylprolyl isomerase D were upregulated, while prohibitin and N-ethylmaleimide-sensitive factor expression levels were downregulated. Data provide further insight into the mechanisms by which TCDD disrupts ovarian function by indicating which differential protein expressions following low-dose TCDD exposure
Ghost field realizations of the spinor strings based on the linear W(1,2,s) algebras
It has been shown that certain W algebras can be linearized by the inclusion
of a spin-1 current. This Provides a way of obtaining new realizations of the W
algebras. In this paper, we investigate the new ghost field realizations of the
W(2,s)(s=3,4) algebras, making use of the fact that these two algebras can be
linearized. We then construct the nilpotent BRST charges of the spinor
non-critical W(2,s) strings with these new realizations.Comment: 10 pages, no figure
Effects of yeast culture on broiler growth performance, nutrient digestibility and caecal microbiota
This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of yeast culture (YC) supplementation on the growth performance, apparent nutrient digestibility and caecal microflora of broiler chickens. A total of 360 one-day-old Arbor Acres broiler chickens were randomly assigned to six dietary treatments containing 0.2%, 0.4%, 0.6%, 0.8% and 1% YC. The experiment lasted for 42 days. Diet and faecal samples were collected for analysis of dry matter, crude protein, ether extract, calcium and phosphorus. Caecal microbiota on days 21 and 42 were measured using polymerase chain reaction-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) and real-time PCR. Dietary supplementation with YC did not affect feed intake. On day 42, the 0.8% YC group showed optimal growth and feed efficiency, as well as higher levels of apparent digestibility of ether extract, calcium and phosphorus. On day 21, both 0.8% and 1% YC groups exhibited a significant increase in Ruminococcus, Propionibacterium clostridiales, and Bifidobacterium density. The density of Bacteroides in the YC groups was significantly higher than that of the control group. On day 42, the densities of Bacteroides, Sphingomonas and Bifidobacterium were higher in the 0.8% YC group, whereas a significant decrease was observed in the number of Enterobacteriaceae. These results serve as evidence that dietary supplementation with 0.8% YC not only moderately optimized the feed efficiency and the apparent digestibility of ether extract, calcium and phosphorus, but also positively influenced the caecal bacterial density and diversity in broiler chickens. Keywords: Arbor Acres broiler, caecal microflora, yeast culture supplementatio
Configuration Of Grafted Polystyrene Chains In The Melt: Temperature And Concentration Dependence
The concentration profiles of carboxy-terminated polystyrene chains in the melt grafted onto oxide-covered silicon substrates were measured using secondary-ion mass spectroscopy. The grafting density increased with temperature and an enthalpy of +7.4 kcal/mole was deduced for the grafting reaction, SiOH + R(COOH) ⇄ R(COOSi) + H2O. Relatively high grafting densities (σ∼6.6·mg/m2) were achieved with minimal chain distortion or displacement of long chains by shorter ones. Significant stretching of the grafted chains occurred for σ > 10 mg/m2. An equilibrium constant for the grafting reaction incorporating entropy is discussed.69577677
Tensile strength of large-scale incipient rock joints: a laboratory investigation
In this paper, a testing methodology was developed in the laboratory to measure the tensile strength of large-scale incipient rock joints. In the test, an expansive grout was used to develop the tensile force. Each test comprises two phases: Phase i test and Phase ii test. The Phase i test identified sample failure time, while the Phase ii test measured the corresponding tensile force arising from the expansive grout. Ostensibly homogeneous rock samples without incipient joints were firstly tested to establish the methodology. Tensile strength of block samples containing incipient rock joints was then measured using the established testing scheme. The test results have been compared with those obtained from conventional Brazilian and uniaxial tension tests as suggested by ISRM. The proposed approach is capable of giving a measure of tensile strength of large-scale incipient rock joints, although somewhat smaller strength than that from the standard approaches was occasionally measured in the preliminary tests on ostensibly homogeneous samples. Effects of stress concentration, sample scale, loading rate and expansive tensile force on the testing results were discussed. Furthermore, this simple and practical testing scheme is proposed for the measurement of the in situ tensile strength of rock and incipient discontinuities in the field, which if successful will provide a more scientific guidance on the rock mass classification and engineering design
Comparison of large-scale flows on the Sun measured by time-distance helioseismology and local correlation tracking technique
We present a direct comparison between two different techniques time-distance
helioseismology and a local correlation tracking method for measuring mass
flows in the solar photosphere and in a near-surface layer: We applied both
methods to the same dataset (MDI high-cadence Dopplergrams covering almost the
entire Carrington rotation 1974) and compared the results. We found that after
necessary corrections, the vector flow fields obtained by these techniques are
very similar. The median difference between directions of corresponding vectors
is 24 degrees, and the correlation coefficients of the results for mean zonal
and meridional flows are 0.98 and 0.88 respectively. The largest discrepancies
are found in areas of small velocities where the inaccuracies of the computed
vectors play a significant role. The good agreement of these two methods
increases confidence in the reliability of large-scale synoptic maps obtained
by them.Comment: 14 pages, 6 figures, just before acceptance in Solar Physic
Time-reversal symmetry breaking in the noncentrosymmetric Zr3Ir superconductor
We report the discovery of Zr3Ir as a structurally different type of unconventional noncentrosymmetric superconductor (with Tc=2.3 K), here investigated mostly via muon-spin rotation/relaxation (μSR) techniques. Its superconductivity was characterized using magnetic susceptibility, electrical resistivity, and heat capacity measurements. The low-temperature superfluid density, determined via transverse-field μSR and electronic specific heat, suggests a fully gapped superconducting state. The spontaneous magnetic fields, revealed by zero-field μSR below Tc, indicate the breaking of time-reversal symmetry in Zr3Ir and hence the unconventional nature of its superconductivity. By using symmetry arguments and electronic-structure calculations we obtain a superconducting order parameter that is fully compatible with the experimental observations. Hence, our results clearly suggest that Zr3Ir represents a structurally different member of noncentrosymmetric superconductors with broken time-reversal symmetry
