    Se describen los hallazgos clínicos, radiológicos y analíticos en dos casos de gatos menores de dos años, que se presentaron con un cuadro clínico de caquexia, vómitos y disnea. En ambos casos las radiografías evidenciaron la presencia de masas intratorácicas; la analítica basada en test ELISA para FeLV y FIV y las necropsias efectuadas, parecen demostrar la relación existente entre gato joven, FeLV y el desarrollo de masas tumorales mediastínicas.The clinical, radiologycal and analytic discovery, are described in two cases of cats under two years of age which were presented with dyspnea, vomiting and caquexia. In both cases the radiographs showed the presence of intrathoracic masses; ELISA test for FeLV and FIV and the necropsy demostrated the relation of young cat and FeLV with the development of mediastinic tumoral masses

    Harmonically Trapped Quantum Gases

    We solve the problem of a Bose or Fermi gas in dd-dimensions trapped by δd% \delta \leq d mutually perpendicular harmonic oscillator potentials. From the grand potential we derive their thermodynamic functions (internal energy, specific heat, etc.) as well as a generalized density of states. The Bose gas exhibits Bose-Einstein condensation at a nonzero critical temperature TcT_{c} if and only if d+δ>2d+\delta >2, and a jump in the specific heat at TcT_{c} if and only if d+δ>4d+\delta >4. Specific heats for both gas types precisely coincide as functions of temperature when d+δ=2d+\delta =2. The trapped system behaves like an ideal free quantum gas in d+δd+\delta dimensions. For δ=0\delta =0 we recover all known thermodynamic properties of ideal quantum gases in dd dimensions, while in 3D for δ=\delta = 1, 2 and 3 one simulates behavior reminiscent of quantum {\it wells, wires}and{\it dots}, respectively.Comment: 14 pages including 3 figures and 3 table

    General Practitioners' Perceptions of the Use of Wearable Electronic Health Monitoring Devices: Qualitative Analysis of Risks and Benefits.

    The rapid diffusion of wearable electronic health monitoring devices (wearable devices or wearables) among lay populations shows that self-tracking and self-monitoring are pervasively expanding, while influencing health-related practices. General practitioners are confronted with this phenomenon, since they often are the expert-voice that patients will seek. This article aims to explore general practitioners' perceptions of the role of wearable devices in family medicine and of their benefits, risks, and challenges associated with their use. It also explores their perceptions of the future development of these devices. Data were collected during a medical conference among 19 Swiss general practitioners through mind maps. Maps were first sketched at the conference and their content was later compared with notes and reports written during the conference, which allowed for further integration of information. This tool represents an innovative methodology in qualitative research that allows for time-efficient data collection and data analysis. Data analysis highlighted that wearable devices were described as user-friendly, adaptable devices that could enable performance monitoring and support medical research. Benefits included support for patients' empowerment and education, behavior change facilitation, better awareness of personal medical history and body functioning, efficient information transmission, and connection with the patient's medical network; however, general practitioners were concerned by a lack of scientific validation, lack of clarity over data protection, and the risk of stakeholder-associated financial interests. Other perceived risks included the promotion of an overly medicalized health culture and the risk of supporting patients' self-diagnosis and self-medication. General practitioners also feared increased pressure on their workload and a compromised doctor-patient relationship. Finally, they raised important questions that can guide wearables' future design and development, highlighting a need for general practitioners and medical professionals to be involved in the process. Wearables play an increasingly central role in daily health-related practices, and general practitioners expressed a desire to become more involved in the development of such technologies. Described as useful information providers, wearables were generally positively perceived and did not seem to pose a threat to the doctor-patient relationship. However, general practitioners expressed their concern that wearables may fuel a self-monitoring logic, to the detriment of patients' autonomy and overall well-being. While wearables can contribute to health promotion, it is crucial to clarify the logic underpinning the design of such devices. Through the analysis of group discussions, this study contributes to the existing literature by presenting general practitioners' perceptions of wearable devices. This paper provides insight on general practitioners' perception to be considered in the context of product development and marketing

    Application of the Wavelet Transform to the Digital Image Processing of Electron Micrographs and of Backreflection Electron Diffraction Patterns

    In this work we explore the use of the so-called wavelet transform in the digital image processing of micrographs. The wavelet transform of an image f(x,y) is defined as: Wf(s,u,v) = f(x,y) s Ψ(s(x-u),s(y-v)) dxdy where Ψ is an analyzing function called wavelet and which is in our examples always taken to be the Mexican hat given by Ψ(x)=(2-(x2+y2))exp(-(x2+y2)/2) Some synthetic images are shown in which it can be clearly seen how the wavelet transform can be useful to reveal edges and to emphasize the boundaries of the clusters. The technique is applied in the case of the CoMoS catalysts, in which the wavelet transform can be used to emphasize the hexagonal domains while filtering the noise quite effectively. The technique is next applied to electron backreflection patterns where substantial noise reduction and emphasis of the lines are achieved. Several examples of the application of this processing tool to high resolution images of metallic particles and to quasicrystals are presented

    We report various many-body theoretical approaches to the nonlinear decay rate and energy loss of charged particles moving in an interacting free electron gas. These include perturbative formulations of the scattering matrix, the self-energy, and the induced electron density.     Atmospheric pollution in the ten most populated US cities. Evidence of persistence

    The degree of persistence in daily PM25 and O3 in the ten most populated US cities, namely New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, San Diego, Dallas and San Jose is examined in this work. We employ a methodology based on fractional integration, using the order of integration as a measure of the degree of persistence. Using data for the time period from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2020, our results indicate that fractional integration and long memory features are both present in all the examined cases, with the integration order of the series being constrained in the (0, 1) interval. Based on this, the estimation of the coefficients for the time trend produces results which are substantially different from those obtained under the I(0) assumption

    Slow and fast micro-field components in warm and dense hydrogen plasmas

    The aim of this work is the investigation of the statistical properties of local electric fields in an ion-electron two component plasmas for coupled conditions. The stochastic fields at a charged or at a neutral point in plasmas involve both slow and fast fluctuation characteristics. The statistical study of these local fields based on a direct time average is done for the first time. For warm and dense plasma conditions, typically Ne1018cm3N_{e}\approx 10^{18}cm^{-3}, % T_{e}\approx 1eV, well controlled molecular dynamics (MD) simulations of neutral hydrogen, protons and electrons have been carried out. Relying on these \textit{ab initio} MD calculations this work focuses on an analysis of the concepts of statistically independent slow and fast local field components, based on the consideration of a time averaged electric field. Large differences are found between the results of these MD simulations and corresponding standard results based on static screened fields. The effects discussed are of importance for physical phenomena connected with stochastic electric field fluctuations, e.g., for spectral line broadening in dense plasmas.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys.     Comparative analysis of the compressive strength of concrete under different curing methods

    Concrete is the most widely used material in construction, which possesses different characteristics and possible manufacturing methods. Concrete is, also, characterized by its high resistance to compression and durability, factors that could have been directly influenced by the curing method in early ages. The objective of this research is to demonstrate the importance of the concrete curing process, as well as to analyze the influence of the chosen curing method on the compression resistance. 48 concrete test samples were manufactured, by the standard requirements. Subsequently, the samples were divided into eight batches, subjected to different types of curing: immersion curing, twice a day; outdoor curing; total immersion curing in different waters, application of commercial curing agent; with polyethylene foil coating and without curing. Performing compression testing at 7 and 28 days. Among the results obtained, the batch that underwent the method of curing with polyethylene coating presented a more efficient effect in terms of resistance to compression; followed by the techniques of immersion in water
