According to a study presented by The Guardian, Bridget Jones´s Diary is one of the 10 novels which best reflects the society at the end of the 20th century. The great success of this novel, as well as the film, is due to the plot and to Jane Austen´s narrative techniques. We will discuss how the scriptwriters created an adaptation through general intertextualities that reveal its connection with the postfeminist discourse, which were the cinematographic strategies that they used for the adaptation of the novel. On the other hand, we will discuss about its author, Helen Fielding, who is one of the writers that best illustrates the situation of occidental women at the end of the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century. She describes a woman who dares to talk about her daily problems openly, pulling apart the belief that personal problems have to be kept in the private sphere. She uses real language, even creating new words to give women their own voice; in fact, she is a pioneer in the literary genre called Chick Lit, about which we will discuss its varieties and components. The post-feminist movement will serve as a background to contextualize the novel and the movie. The protagonist, Bridget Jones, is overwhelmed by the expectations of the postfeminist ideals. Bridget Jones´s Diary depicts the postfeminist settings through different intertexts: Jane Austen´s novel and the TV adaptation, both taken to the big screen by the scriptwriters of this movie (Helen Fielding, Andrew Davis and Richard Curtis)

The profile of the university student is undergoing significant changes that are forcing universities to rethink new methodological strategies to favour teaching-learning processes. It is an ex post facto and transversal study, which starts from a descriptive methodology, using instruments for the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative information. In general terms, the results obtained after the analysis of participation, of the comments made by the students and of the shared audiovisual content, address questions centred on the influence of the use of Twitter for the improvement of the natural dynamics of academic development in the subject of Introduction to Social Pedagogy, observing how it provides numerous benefits in the collective creation of learning, from collaboration, participation and group cohesion.O perfil do estudante universitário está passando por mudanças significativas que obrigam as universidades a repensarem novas estratégias metodológicas para favorecer os processos de ensino-aprendizagem. Endoplasmic Reticulum Export of GPI-Anchored Proteins

    Get PDF
Protein export from the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is an essential process in all eukaryotes driven by the cytosolic coat complex COPII, which forms vesicles at ER exit sites for transport of correctly assembled secretory cargo to the Golgi apparatus. The COPII machinery must adapt to the existing wide variety of different types of cargo proteins and to different cellular needs for cargo secretion. The study of the ER export of glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins (GPI-APs), a special glycolipid-linked class of cell surface proteins, is contributing to address these key issues. Due to their special biophysical properties, GPI-APs use a specialized COPII machinery to be exported from the ER and their processing and maturation has been recently shown to actively regulate COPII function. In this review, we discuss the regulatory mechanisms by which GPI-APs are assembled and selectively exported from the ER.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad de España (MINECO)-BFU2017-89700-

Plastic deformation of dense nanocrystalline yttrium oxide at elevated temperatures

    Get PDF
Nanocrystalline yttrium oxide, Y2O3 with 110 nm average grain size was plastically deformed between 800 ◦C and 1100 ◦C by compression at different strain rates and by creep at different stresses. The onset temperature for plasticity was at 1000 ◦C. Yield stress was strongly temperature dependent and the strain hardening disappeared at 1100 ◦C. The polyhedral and equiaxed grain morphology were preserved in the deformed specimens. The experimentally measured and theoretically calculated stress exponent n = 2 was consistent with the plastic deformation by grain boundary sliding. Decrease in the grain size was consistent with decrease in the brittle to ductile transition temperature
