Aims: Detection and characterization of idiosyncratic drug-induced liver injury (DILI) currently rely on standard liver tests, which are suboptimal in terms of specificity, sensitivity and prognosis. Therefore, DILI diagnosis can be delayed, with important consequences for the patient. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the potential of osteopontin, cytokeratin-18 (caspase-cleaved: ccK18 and total: K18), α-glutathione- S-transferase and microRNA-122 as new DILI biomarkers. Methods: Serial blood samples were collected from 32 DILI and 34 non-DILI acute liver injury (ALI) cases and a single sample from 43 population controls without liver injury (HLC) and analysed using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or single-molecule arrays. Results: All biomarkers differentiated DILI and ALI from HLC with an area under receiver operator characteristic curve (AUC) value of >0.75 but were less efficient in distinguishing DILI from ALI, with ccK18 (0.79) and K18 (0.76) demonstrating highest potential. However, the AUC improved considerably (0.98) for ccK18 when comparing DILI and a subgroup of autoimmune hepatitis cases. Cytokeratin-18, microRNA- 122 and α-glutathione-S-transferase correlated well with traditional transaminases, while osteopontin correlated most strongly with the international normalized ratio (INR). Conclusions: ccK18 appears promising in distinguishing DILI from autoimmune hepatitis but less so from other forms of acute liver injury. Osteopontin demonstrates prognostic potential with higher levels detected in more severe cases regardless of aetiologyConsejería de Salud y Familia de la Junta de Andalucía, Grant/Award Numbers: PI- 0274-2016, P18-RT-3364Instituto de Salud Carlos III (ISCIII) cofounded by Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional - FEDER, Grant/Award Numbers: PI19/00883, PI18/00901UMA18-FEDERJA-193; Universidad de Málaga/CBU

An 11-bit 20-MSample/s pipelined ADC with OTA bias current regulation to optimize power dissipation

    Get PDF
This paper presents a pipeline analog to digital converter (ADC) consisting of five stages with 2.5 effective bit resolution. Several techniques were combined for the reduction of the power consumption and to preserve the converter linearity. To reduce the power consumption, the circuit has two scaled operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs), which are shared by the first four pipeline stages. The last fifth stage is a single decoder with 2.5 effective bits. Each OTA includes additional circuitry to adapt the power consumption according to the stage that uses the OTA. This technique changes the bias current depending on the stage in operation. The ADC was optimized to obtain 11-bit resolution with frequencies from 1 kHz to 10 MHz. The technology used to simulate the ADC is a 3.3 V 0.35 μm CMOS process and the circuit consumes 17.9 mW at 20 MSample/s sampling rate. With this resolution and sampling rate, it achieves 67.28 dB SNDR and 10.88 bit ENOB at 0.1 MHz input frequency. Quality Web Information Retrieval: Towards Improving Semantic Recommender Systems with Friendsourcing

    Get PDF
Web content quality is crucial in any domains, but it is even more critical in the health and e-learning ones. Users need to retrieve information that is precise, believable, and relevant to their problem. With the exponential growth of web contents, Recommender System has become indispensable for discovering quality information that might interest or be needed by web users. Quality-based Recommender Systems take into account quality criteria like credibility, believability, readability. In this paper, we present an approach to conceive Social Semantic Recommender Systems. In this approach a friendsourcing strategy is applied to better adequate recommendations to the user needs. The friendsourcing strategy focuses on the use of social force to assess quality of web content. In this paper we introduce the main research issues of this approach and detail the road-map we are following in the QHIR Project

[EN]In previous articles published by the authors, similar investigations, focused in summer, autumn and winter, have been carried out. In this article the focus will be on the study of spring. In Spring the weather changes very quickly. In the transition between winter and summer, spring weather changes very quickly, This is a good reason to investigate the behavior of spring in monthly periods instead of doing it in quarterly ones. When studying the changes that have taken place in the monthly distribution of Spring precipitation, in the last 150 years, no long-term trends are observed, since the numerous changes observed change from one period to another without a clear direction. In the last two periods of 30 years there seem to be certain tendencies, which have their synoptic explanation. Anyway, the analysis of data shows that prudence is necessary when periods are not long enough

Advanced Pedestrian Positioning System to Smartphones and Smartwatches

    Get PDF
In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in the development of pedestrian navigation systems for satellite-denied scenarios. The popularization of smartphones and smartwatches is an interesting opportunity for reducing the infrastructure cost of the positioning systems. Nowadays, smartphones include inertial sensors that can be used in pedestrian dead-reckoning (PDR) algorithms for the estimation of the user's position. Both smartphones and smartwatches include WiFi capabilities allowing the computation of the received signal strength (RSS). We develop a new method for the combination of RSS measurements from two different receivers using a Gaussian mixture model. We also analyze the implication of using a WiFi network designed for communication purposes in an indoor positioning system when the designer cannot control the network configuration. In this work, we design a hybrid positioning system that combines inertial measurements, from low-cost inertial sensors embedded in a smartphone, with RSS measurements through an extended Kalman filter. The system has been validated in a real scenario, and results show that our system improves the positioning accuracy of the PDR system thanks to the use of two WiFi receivers. The designed system obtains an accuracy up to 1.4 m in a scenario of 6000 m2

FPGA synthesis of an stereo image matching architecture for autonomous mobile robots

    Get PDF
This paper describes a hardware proposal to speed up the process of image matching in stereo vision systems like those employed by autonomous mobile robots. This proposal combines a classical window-based matching approach with a previous stage, where key points are selected from each image of the stereo pair. In this first step the key point extraction method is based on the SIFT algorithm. Thus, in the second step, the window-based matching is only applied to the set of selected key points, instead of to the whole images. For images with a 1% of key points, this method speeds up the matching four orders of magnitude. This proposal is, on the one hand, a better parallelizable architecture than the original SIFT, and on the other, a faster technique than a full image windows matching approach. The architecture has been implemented on a lower power Virtex 6 FPGA and it achieves a image matching speed above 30 fps. This work has been funded by Spanish government project TEC2015-66878-C3-2-R (MINECO/FEDER, UE)
