Results of the ESO-SEST Key Programme on CO in the Magellanic Clouds. IX. The giant LMC HII region complex N11
We present maps and a catalogue containing the J=1-0 12CO parameters of 29
individual molecular clouds in the second-brightest LMC star formation complex,
N11. In the southwestern part of N11, molecular clouds occur in a ring or shell
surrounding the major OB star association LH9. In the northeastern part, a
chain of molecular clouds delineates the rim of one of the so-called supergiant
shells in the LMC. The well-defined clouds have dimensions close to those of
the survey beam (diameters of 25 pc or less). Some of the clouds were also
observed in J=2-1 12CO, and in the lower two transitions of 13CO. Clouds mapped
with a twice higher angular resolution in J=2-1 12CO show substructure with
dimensions once again comparable to those of the mapping beam. The few clouds
for which we could model physical parameters have fairly warm (T(kin) = 60 -
150 K) and moderately dense (n(H2) = 3000 cm-3) gas. The northeastern chain of
CO clouds, although lacking in diffuse intercloud emission, is characteristic
of the more quiescent regions of the LMC and appears to have been subject to
relatively little photo-processing. The clouds forming part of the southwestern
shell or ring, however, are almost devoid of diffuse intercloud emission and
also exhibit other characteristics of an extreme photon-dominated region (PDR).Comment: 14 pages; accepted for publication in A&
A continuous time random walk model for financial distributions
We apply the formalism of the continuous time random walk to the study of
financial data. The entire distribution of prices can be obtained once two
auxiliary densities are known. These are the probability densities for the
pausing time between successive jumps and the corresponding probability density
for the magnitude of a jump. We have applied the formalism to data on the US
dollar/Deutsche Mark future exchange, finding good agreement between theory and

Study of Digital Competence of the Students and Teachers in Ukraine
Professional fulfillment of the personality at the conditions of the digital economy requires the high level of digital competency. One of the ways to develop these competencies is education. However, to provide the implementation of digital education at a high level, the digital competency of the teachers and students is a must. This paper presents explanations on the level determination of the digital competencies for teachers and students in Ukraine according to the DigComp recommendations. We tried to identify the main factors that reflect the degree of readiness teachers and students for digital education based on their self-evaluation. We also attempted to estimate the level of digital competencies based on the analysis of Case-Studies execution results. The complex analysis let us assess the connection between respondents’ self-evaluation and their real competencies. Here we provide a methodology and a model of level competencies determination by means of a survey, expert case rating and the results of the statistical analysis. On the basis of the obtained results, this paper suggests further research prospects and recommendations on the digital competency development in educational institutions in Ukraine
Si and Fe depletion in Galactic star-forming regions observed by the Spitzer Space Telescope
We report the results of the mid-infrared spectroscopy of 14 Galactic
star-forming regions with the high-resolution modules of the Infrared
Spectrograph (IRS) on board the Spitzer Space Telescope. We detected [SiII]
35um, [FeII] 26um, and [FeIII] 23um as well as [SIII] 33um and H2 S(0) 28um
emission lines. Using the intensity of [NII] 122um or 205um and [OI] 146um or
63um reported by previous observations in four regions, we derived the ionic
abundance Si+/N+ and Fe+/N+ in the ionized gas and Si+/O0 and Fe+/O0 in the
photodissociation gas. For all the targets, we derived the ionic abundance of
Si+/S2+ and Fe2+/S2+ for the ionized gas. Based on photodissociation and HII
region models the gas-phase Si and Fe abundance are suggested to be 3-100% and
<8% of the solar abundance, respectively, for the ionized gas and 16-100% and
2-22% of the solar abundance, respectively, for the photodissociation region
gas. Since the [FeII] 26um and [FeIII] 23um emissions are weak, the high
sensitivity of the IRS enables to derive the gas-phase Fe abundance widely in
star-forming regions. The derived gas-phase Si abundance is much larger than
that in cool interstellar clouds and that of Fe. The present study indicates
that 3-100% of Si atoms and <22% of Fe atoms are included in dust grains which
are destroyed easily in HII regions, probably by the UV radiation. We discuss
possible mechanisms to account for the observed trend; mantles which are

Uncoupled continuous-time random walks: Solution and limiting behavior of the master equation
A detailed study is presented for a large class of uncoupled continuous-time
random walks (CTRWs). The master equation is solved for the Mittag-Leffler
survival probability. The properly scaled diffusive limit of the master
equation is taken and its relation with the fractional diffusion equation is
discussed. Finally, some common objections found in the literature are

Solitonic-exchange mechanism of surface~diffusion
We study surface diffusion in the framework of a generalized
Frenkel-Kontorova model with a nonconvex transverse degree of freedom. The
model describes a lattice of atoms with a given concentration interacting by
Morse-type forces, the lattice being subjected to a two-dimensional substrate
potential which is periodic in one direction and nonconvex (Morse) in the
transverse direction. The results are used to describe the complicated
exchange-mediated diffusion mechanism recently observed in MD simulations [J.E.

A multifrequency study of the active star forming complex NGC6357. I. Interstellar structures linked to the open cluster Pis24
We investigate the distribution of the gas (ionized, neutral atomic and
molecular), and interstellar dust in the complex star forming region NGC6357
with the goal of studying the interplay between the massive stars in the open
cluster Pis24 and the surrounding interstellar matter. Our study of the
distribution of the ionized gas is based on narrow-band Hhalfa, [SII], and
[OIII] images obtained with the Curtis-Schmidt Camera at CTIO, Chile, and on
radio continuum observations at 1465 MHz taken with the VLA with a synthesized
beam of 40 arcsec. The distribution of the molecular gas is analyzed using
12CO(1-0) data obtained with the Nanten radiotelescope, Chile (angular
resolution = 2.7 arcmin). The interstellar dust distribution was studied using
mid-infrared data from the GLIMPSE survey and far-infrared observations from
IRAS. NGC6357 consists of a large ionized shell and a number of smaller optical
nebulosities. The optical, radio continuum, and near- and mid-IR images
delineate the distributions of the ionized gas and interstellar dust in the HII
regions and in previously unknown wind blown bubbles linked to the massive
stars in Pis24 revealing surrounding photodissociation regions. The CO line
observations allowed us to identify the molecular counterparts of the ionized
structures in the complex and to confirm the presence of photodissociation
regions. The action of the WR star HD157504 on the surrounding gas was also
investigated. The molecular mass in the complex is estimated to be (4+/-2)X10^5
Mo. Mean electron densities derived from the radio data suggest electron
densities > 200 cm^-3, indicating that NGC6357 is a complex formed in a region
of high ambient density. The known massive stars in Pis24 and a number of newly
inferred massive stars are mainly responsible for the excitation and

Effects of source and receiver locations in predicting room transfer functions by a phased beam tracing method
Detection of new sources of methanol emission at 107 and 108 GHz with the Mopra telescope
A southern hemisphere survey of methanol emission sources in two millimeter
wave transitions has been carried out using the ATNF Mopra millimetre
telescope. Sixteen emission sources have been detected in the 3(1)-4(0)A+
transition of methanol at 107 GHz, including six new sources exhibiting class
II methanol maser emission features. Combining these results with the similar
northern hemisphere survey, a total of eleven 107-GHz methanol masers have been
detected. A survey of the methanol emission in the 0(0)-1(-1)E transition at
108 GHz resulted in the detection of 16 sources; one of them showing maser
characteristics. This is the first methanol maser detected at 108 GHz,
presumably of class II. The results of LVG statistical equilibrium calculations
