We consider the joint allocation of receiver, bit, and power to subcarriers in the downlink of multicell orthogonal frequency-division multiple-access (OFDMA) networks. Assuming that the cells share the entire bandwidth and that the rates are discrete, we formulate the joint allocation problem as a nonlinear mixed integer program (MIP), which however has exponential worst-case complexity. We capitalize on the capability of the receivers to measure the interference-plus-noise on every subcarrier and decompose the joint problem into a set of smaller-scale linear MIPs solved by individual base stations. Accordingly, we propose a distributed algorithm with linear complexity, in which the base stations participate in the problem solution in a round-robin manner. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in comparison with the iterative waterfilling algorithm and the successive optimal solution, by means of standard branch-and-cut solvers, of the individual MIPs

Efficient Computation of Pareto Optimal Beamforming Vectors for the MISO Interference Channel with Successive Interference Cancellation

We study the two-user multiple-input single-output (MISO) Gaussian interference channel where the transmitters have perfect channel state information and employ single-stream beamforming. The receivers are capable of performing successive interference cancellation, so when the interfering signal is strong enough, it can be decoded, treating the desired signal as noise, and subtracted from the received signal, before the desired signal is decoded. We propose efficient methods to compute the Pareto-optimal rate points and corresponding beamforming vector pairs, by maximizing the rate of one link given the rate of the other link. We do so by splitting the original problem into four subproblems corresponding to the combinations of the receivers' decoding strategies - either decode the interference or treat it as additive noise. We utilize recently proposed parameterizations of the optimal beamforming vectors to equivalently reformulate each subproblem as a quasi-concave problem, which we solve very efficiently either analytically or via scalar numerical optimization. The computational complexity of the proposed methods is several orders-of-magnitude less than the complexity of the state-of-the-art methods. We use the proposed methods to illustrate the effect of the strength and spatial correlation of the channels on the shape of the rate region.Comment: Accepted for publication in IEEE Transactions on Signal Processin

Achievable Outage Rate Regions for the MISO Interference Channel

We consider the slow-fading two-user multiple-input single-output (MISO) interference channel. We want to understand which rate points can be achieved, allowing a non-zero outage probability. We do so by defining four different outage rate regions. The definitions differ on whether the rates are declared in outage jointly or individually and whether the transmitters have instantaneous or statistical channel state information (CSI). The focus is on the instantaneous CSI case with individual outage, where we propose a stochastic mapping from the rate point and the channel realization to the beamforming vectors. A major contribution is that we prove that the stochastic component of this mapping is independent of the actual channel realization.Comment: Accepted for publication in IEEE Wireless Communications Letter

The Greek Olive Oil Market Structure

Food product differentiation leads to significant price variations among the same products, meaning that specific products can be sold in higher prices. An Hedonic Price analysis is adopted to investigate the influence of food differentiation on consumer prices and to identify product attributes’ values for the olive oil market. This will con- tribute to device the most appropriate olive oil differentiation strategies in order to be purchased by consumers in a higher price. The retail price structure was estimated in relation to several product natural attributes, to production and processing conditions, to quality control and to labeling and distribution. Findings demonstrate that olive oil price differentiation is mainly influenced by factors relevant to quality of life, purchase uncertainty, acquisition cost and consumers’ psychological needs. Hedonic Analysis of Retail Egg Prices

The fast growth of product differentiation affects even the raw food product market and causes substantial price variations. The hedonic price technique is applied to examine raw-egg attributes because of a recent transformation from an undifferentiated to a highly differentiated market. The effects of product attributes, production methods, distribution, and product image on retail egg prices are considered. Results reveal that retail egg prices are influenced by specific product attributes including nutritional characteristics and unconventional production methods. Distance learning and attitudes of greek basketball coaches

Aim of the present research was the determination of the attitudes of Greek Basketball coaches towards their distance learning with the use of ICT in comparison with the classical learning and the examination of the perspective of their distance learning with the use of ICT. Therefore a closed questionnaire was used which included 3 different parts. 60 basketball coaches from Northern Greece comprised the sample (Ν=60). An interactive software was created which included the teaching of an offensive basketball system. The methodology of distance learning was used for the creation of the offensive system. The software was copied to a CD-Rom and accompanied with the questionnaires it was given to 20 Basketball coaches of Northern Greece as a pilot program. After the corrections of the primary questionnaires, the distribution of the final questionnaire accompanied with the CD-Rom followed. Multiple reciprocations were used for the data analysis. According to the results the more relaxing, easier and faster distance learning was considered in relation to the conventional one, a) the fewer difficulties would the Basketball coaches face by using the distance learning method and b) the friendlier and more relaxing would the distance learning method be. Also according to data research: a) the more attractive the reading of software was, b) the fewer the difficulties during the reading of software and c) the more relaxing, easier and faster distance learning was considered in relation to the conventional one, the stronger was the perspective of Basketball coaches to believe in distance learning. In conclusion the more relaxing, easier and faster distance learning was considered in relation to the conventional one, the more positive were the attitudes of Basketball coaches towards their distance learning, while a positive perspective of Basketball coaches towards their distance learning is being formed
