Mexican hat curve for hydrogen- and antihydrogen-states in natural atom H

Molecular band spectra as well as atomic line spectra reveal a left-right symmetry for atoms (Van Hooydonk, Spectrochim. Acta A, 2000, 56, 2273 and Phys. Rev. A 66, 044103 (2002). We now extract a Mexican hat shaped or double well curve from the line spectrum (Lyman ns-series) of natural atom H. An H CSB theory and its oscillator contribution (1-0.5pi/n)sup(2)/nsup(2) lead to unprecedented results for antihydrogen physics, ahead of the CERN-AD-project on artificial antihydrogen.Comment: 4 pages, 1 fig., lecture at Wigner Centennial 2002, Pecs, Hungar

ƁuĆŸiski serbski sƂownik K. B. Pfula jako sƂownik „odrodzeniowy”

Published in 1866, “ƁuĆŸiski serbski sƂownik” compiled by Kƙesćan Bohuwěr Pful was completed as a result of cultural and national revival of Slavic Lausatians and constitutes the first reliable work on the lexis of the Upper Sorbian language. A comparison of the lexical corpus constituting this dictionary with the language used in the press of the time (the material has been excerpted from two year’s issues of the weekly ”TydĆșenska Nowina” (Weekly messages) published in 1851 and 1853) seems to be sufficient enough to evaluate the lexis included in the Pful’s dictionary and to provide an answer to what extent this lexicon recorded the vocabulary of the first decades of the national revival. A juxtaposition of the material demonstrates that the Pful dictionary largely reflects the development of the Upper Sorbian language in the latter half of the nineteenth century, for the material encompasses not only the vocabulary of the past centuries but also contemporary loans and borrowings from the Czech language, less frequently from Polish or, generally Slavic loans, to be found in the press. Pful also records a number of older Germanisms. Interestingly enough, the dictionary does not include words that are used internationally though they are quite frequent in the issues of ”TydĆșenska Nowina”. Pful replaces them with his propositions of either borrowings from the Czech language or neologisms of his own, often modeled after their Czech counterparts. The dictionary also lacks numerous compounds, collocations and the words that had been apparently coined by the editors of the weekly (oftentimes loan translations from German, e.g. pƂododruĆŸiny (Fruchtarten)). The Pful’s dictionary is also characterized by a certain discernible excess of lexical propositions of the author himself as compared to the actual material excerpted from the publication. The above should be rather treated as an expression of the author’s deliberate attempt to enliven and enrich the Upper Sorbian lexis at the time of the awakening of Sorbian consciousness

Teaming up: from motors to people.

When I reflect on how I became a cell biologist and why I love being one today, one thing that comes to mind is the many terrific collaborations I have had. The science I am most proud of from my graduate and postdoctoral training would not have been possible without working in teams with other scientists. Now, in my own group, much of our best work is being done collaboratively, both within the lab and with other labs. In this essay, I will highlight my experiences working in teams as a trainee, the role teamwork has played in my own research group, and how important I think collaborative science is for the future of biological research

nanoTRON: a Picasso module for MLP-based classification of super-resolution data

    No full text
Motivation: Classification of images is an essential task in higher-level analysis of biological data. By bypassing the diffraction limit of light, super-resolution microscopy opened up a new way to look at molecular details using light microscopy, producing large amounts of data with exquisite spatial detail. Statistical exploration of data usually needs initial classification, which is up to now often performed manually. Results: We introduce nanoTRON, an interactive open-source tool, which allows super-resolution data classification based on image recognition. It extends the software package Picasso with the first deep learning tool with a graphic user interface

Theodor Hiepe (1929-2022) was an outstanding researcher, a world-renowned scientist, a dedicated teacher and a great mentor. During his scientific career, which spanned over 60 years, he made major contributions to many different fields of parasitology. With the passing of Dr. h.c. mult. Theodor Hiepe in September 2022 the scientific community suffered a great loss.Peer Reviewe

    Genealogies of Czech Literary History

The article analyses the most important and most influential narratives of the history of Czech medieval literature that were produced from the beginnings of modern historiography and literary history in the 19th century onwards. The question is how the character of individual narratives and their socio-historical contexts influenced the questions, topics and areas of interest in research on the history of medieval literatures in Bohemia. For Czech literature, such analysis is especially important, because it shows that the problems the history of Czech literature has had to fight from its modern beginnings are also the problems of any new approach that literary historiography may pursue in future, from whatever point of departure. The narratives on which the article focuses are built on an amalgamation of the history of society, language and literature, which a) makes it difficult to supersede them and b) makes any detailed research on transmitted texts look less important. Here lies one of the challenges for future research: the relation of language, text and social and political history has to be analysed in detail, because it is only via their conflation that a coherent narrative of the history of Czech literature has been maintained in the past.[The research leading to these results has received funding from the European Research Council under the European Community's Seventh Franework Programme (FP7/2007-2013) / ERC grant agreement No. 263672.
