El papel del librero, o cómo Caperucita se escapa del lobo
This paper overviews some elements that take influence into the reading in the society from the bookseller’s point of view. It aims to reinforce the figure of the bookseller, different from the dispenser of books, and to enhance its work. Nowadays, taking into account the excess of information and stimuli to which are subject to daily, the mediator role of the bookseller is necessary, in order to advise, promote and propose the type of reading that best accommodates to the interests and evolutionary process of the reader. Cooperative scale-free networks despite the presence of detector hubs
Recent results have shown that heterogeneous populations are better suited to support
cooperation than homogeneous settings when the Prisoner’s Dilemma drives the evolutionary
dynamics of the system. The same occurs when the network growth is coevolving together with
the evolutionary dynamics, which also gives rise to highly cooperative scale-free networks. In the
latter case, however, the organization of cooperation is radically different with respect to the case
in which the underlying network is static. In this paper we study the structure of cooperation
in static networks grown together with evolutionary dynamics and show that the general belief
that hubs can only be occupied by cooperators does not hold. Moreover, these scale-free networks
support high levels of cooperation despite having defector hubs. Our results have several important
implications for the explanation of cooperative behavior in scale-free networks and highlight the
importance that the formation of complex systems have on its function.YM is supported by MICINN (Spain) through the Ram´on y Cajal Programme. Differentiation of Trichuris species using a morphometric approach
Trichuris trichiura is a nematode considered as the whipworm present in humans and primates. The systematics of the genus Trichuris is complex. Morphological studies of Trichuris isolated from primates and humans conclude that the species infecting these hosts is the same. Furthermore, numerous molecular studies have been carried out so far to discriminate parasite species from humans and Non-Human Primates using molecular techniques, but these studies were not performed in combination with a parallel morphological study. The hypothesised existence of more species of Trichuris in primates opens the possibility to revise the zoonotic potential and host specificity of T. trichiura and other putative new species of whipworms. In the present work, a study of Trichuris Roederer, 1761 (Nematoda:Trichuridae) parasitizing C. g. kikuyensis, P. ursinus, Macaca sylvanus, Pan troglodytes, and Sus scrofa domestica has been carried out using modern morphometric techniques in order to differentiate populations of Trichuris isolated from four species of captive NHP from different geographical regions, and swine, respectively. The results obtained revealed strong support for geometrical morphometrics as a useful tool to differentiate male Trichuris populations. Therefore, morphometrics in combination with other techniques, such as molecular biology analyses, ought to be applied to further the differentiation of male populations. On the other hand, morphometrics applied to female Trichuris species does not seem to contribute new information as all the measurements combinations of obtained from females always showed similar resultsMinistry of Economy,Industry and Competitiveness(CGL2017-83057)FEDER funds, the Junta de Andalucía (BIO-338)V Plan Propio de Investigación of the University of Sevill

A cephalometric study in children from Medellin aged 3 to 6 Years with class i dental occlusion
ABSTRACT: The few available studies that have been done with digital lateral cephalic x-rays in children younger than 6 years makes it necessary to conduct research on this age group. The purpose of this study was to determine the average cephalometric measures in children from the municipality of Medellín aged 3 to 6 years with class I dental occlusion, by estimating differences by age, sex, facial biotype, weight and size. Methods: this was a descriptive transversal study using digital lateral cephalic radiographs in 99 children aged 3 to 6 years who met the inclusion criteria in order to determine cephalometric averages. Results: between the ages of 3 and 4 years there is more sexual dimorphism, with more protrusive maxilla and mandible in girls; these differences are lower at the age of 5, becoming undetectable at the age of 6. The behavior of variables by age show that longitudinal measures tend to increase with age. Dolichofacial kids showed higher values in the anterior-posterior direction of linear measures, while leptofacial kids showed higher values in the angular measures in the vertical direction. There were no statistically significant differences in terms of weight/height relationship with cephalometric variables. Conclusions: the value of linear measures rises as age increases, supporting the use of specific standards for each age. This study suggests that there is sexual dimorphism among cephalometric variables, being more evident at the age of 3 and 4 years.
Interactive effects of solar radiation and inorganic nitrogen on biofiltration, biomass production, photosynthetic activity and the accumulation of bioactive compounds i
Interactive effects of solar radiation and inorganic nitrogen and phosphate on biofiltration capacity, biomass production, photosynthetic activity and the accumulation of bio-active compounds were studied in the red alga Gracilaria cornea grown in tanks with a seawater open-flow system during 35 days. Two light conditions were utilized: outdoor (O), full solar natural radiation, and indoor, inside of a greenhouse (G) where UV-B radiation was cut-off and part of the UV-A radiation was filtered. Two inorganic nitrogen and phosphate concentrations were used: High nutrients (HN; 100–200μM of NH4+ and 20μM of KHPO4) and Low nutrients (LN; 10–20μM of NH4+ and 1μM of KHPO4). Growth and biomass productivity were related to the daily integrated electron transport rate determined in situ, as an estimator of daily photosynthetic activity. Nitrogen uptake efficiency (NUE) was close to 100 % under LN, whereas under HN it ranged from 50 to 70 % in the first week of culture, decreasing to 10–15 % in the rest of the experimental period. Nitrogen uptake rate (NUR) ranged from 20 to 45 mmol N m−2 h−1 under HN, and 5 to 18 mmol N m−2 h−1 in LN treatments. Morphological and pigmentation changes were evident through the culture period. The thalli under HN were more reddish under the indoor treatments, than that in LN. The internal compounds increased throughout the experimental period. Mycosporine-like amino acids (MAAs) were accumulated under HN. N plays a photoprotective role due to both the increased photosynthesis and the MAA content. Maximal MAA productivity reached 113–253 mg MAAs m−2 d−1 under the O-HN treatment, the highest level reported until now in the bibliography. G. cornea could be used for bioremediation of high N content waters. In addition, under full solar radiation and high N availability produce high levels of bioactive compounds as MAAs, polyphenols and biliproteins for cosmeceutical applications. This study was financed by resources of the Photobiology and Biotechnology of aquatic organisms (FYBOA-RNM 295) research group and the Project “Photoprotectors of marine algae: compatible cosmeceutics to the ocean” (UMA18-FEDER JA-162) and Nazca Project (P20-00458) of the Andalusian Goverment.
Evaluation of new ceramic electrodes based on Sb-doped SnO2 for the removal of emerging compounds present in wastewater
[EN] The properties of the ceramic electrodes make them interesting for electrochemical advanced oxidation processes (EAOPs), destined to the elimination of emergent or refractory contaminants, as an alternative to boron doped-diamond (BDD) electrodes. For this purpose, new ceramic electrodes based on Sb-doped SnO2 have been developed. Sb-doped tin oxide electrodes have been obtained through mechanical mixing of raw materials and sintering of dry-pressed specimens. Different sintering temperatures (1050 degrees C to 1250 degrees C) were considered. The electrochemical behavior of the resulting electrodes has been compared to that exhibited by Pt and BDDs electrodes. The oxygen discharge potential (E-02) for the ceramic electrodes decreases as the sintering temperature increases, being these values higher than that observed for the Pt electrode and smaller than that for the BDD electrode. This result in a highest rate of COD removal for the electrode sintered at 1050 degrees C comparing with the rest of ceramic electrodes under potentiostatic operation. On the other hand, in galvanostatic mode, the performance of the different ceramic electrodes in terms of the degradation of Norfloxacin, used as tested antibiotic, was similar.
Comparing the behavior of the ceramic electrode sintered at 1250 degrees C and that of the BDD electrode at an applied potential of 3 V, it is inferred that although both present similar values in terms of the degradation of Norfloxacin, the rate of removal of the chemical oxygen demand is higher in the case of the BDD.The authors thanks to Ministerio de Economia y Competitividad (projects number: CTQ2015-65202-C2-1-R and CTQ2015-65202-C2-2R) and to Fondo Europeo de Desarrollo Regional (FEDER) the support to this research.Mora-Gómez, J.; García Gabaldón, M.; Ortega Navarro, EM.; Sánchez-Rivera, M.; Mestre, S.; Pérez-Herranz, V.
