The Invisible Carnival: An Ecosystem of Custom Laser Controlled Devices - Final Paper
The project aims to create a visual ecosystem of analogue devices that will be used by Fortuno (the artistic name of the author) in live performances and during production. Through the development of two MIDI laser controlled devices, the artist will be able to use lasers to control various parameters of the sound. The project also aims to demonstrate Fortuno’s capabilities as a sound designer, an artist, a sound engineer, and a live engineer. Hence, he will use these devices for his electronic production and then utilize the sounds in his set. An Arduino microchip will be used to program the laser response for each device. The laser MIDI controller will be created mainly through the use of programing using C++/Arduino. Each device will be molded separately with different types of casings used. Each device will be tested and then implemented in the sound and image of Fortuno. Ultimately, making him stand out as a unique Dj and musician.https://remix.berklee.edu/graduate-studies-production-technology/1289/thumbnail.jp
FLOW OF STRESS POWER LAW FLUIDS IN CYLINDERS OF NON CIRCULAR CROSS SECTIONS
Inspired in the work of Poiseuille, and taking advantage of the much more realistic model
for describing the mechanical properties of blood in large vessels derived by K. R. Rajagopal,
this dissertation explains the behavior of blood on non circular cross sections, given an Implicit
Constitutive Relation.
First, by assuming that the axial direction is dominant in this phenomenom, an axial flow
problem is solved. Given the non linear and implicit nature of the problem, a non linear system
of coupled partial differential equations will be solved. Using the Minty-Browder Theorem and
the theory for linear elliptic operators, some elementary results about existence and uniqueness of
solutions can be stated.
Next, assuming a lower order velocity field in the other two directions, a secondary flow problem
in the cross sectional area is stated. Taking into account just the terms of the same order and
the solution of the previous step, the problem becomes a linear coupled system of partial differential
equations. Using the theorem of existence of a streamfunction in a two dimensional problem,
we can actually prove that there are no secondary flows for this model.
Finally, a numerical approximation directly based on the Lions-Mercier Splitting Algorithm is
given. Some generalizations of the problem are proposed as future work
Meson phenomenology and phase transitions in nonlocal chiral quark models
We study the features of nonlocal chiral quark models that include wave function renormalization. Model parameters are determined from meson phenomenology, considering different nonlocal form factor shapes. In this context we analyze the characteristics of the deconfinement and chiral restoration transitions at finite temperature and chemical potential, introducing the couplings of fermions to the Polyakov loop for different Polyakov potentials. The results for various thermodynamical quantities are compared with data obtained from lattice QCD calculations.Fil: Carlomagno, Juan Pablo. Filmed clinical cases improved communication skills of student of Pharmacology in Podiatry degree
Solving clinical case by writing-report lacks of students sympathies and interest in many cases. Make a short film is a novelty that really like to the students and may improve their arguing and planning capacities and their communication skills.
Aim: To evaluate the impact of presenting and resolving clinical cases through filming a short-film in the communication skills development and in the learning of medicines in Podiatry undergraduate students.
Methods: A two-year study in which students were invited to voluntarily form groups (3 students maximum). Each group has to design and film a short-film (8 min maximum) showing a clinical case in which medicines’ use was needed to treat feet pathology. A camera, a mobile-phone's video editor or whatever they may use was allowed. The job of each group was supervised and helped by a teacher. The students were invited to present their work to the rest of the class. After each short-film projection the students were encouraged to ask questions if they wanted to do it. After all the projections the students voluntarily answered a satisfaction survey.
Results: Students of Pharmacology of Podiatry Degree, N=101, 55.6% female, 20±1.3 years old were enrolled. 37 short-films showing a clinical case were made. The average time spent by students in making the film was 12.4±8 h. The percentage of students which were satisfied with this way of presentation of the clinical cases was 75.2%.
Conclusion: Filmed clinical cases performed by student of Pharmacology of the Podiatry Degree improved their communication skills.Universidad de Málaga. Tuning the motility and directionality of self-propelled colloids
Microorganisms are able to overcome the thermal randomness of their
surroundings by harvesting energy to navigate in viscous fluid environments. In
a similar manner, synthetic colloidal microswimmers are capable of mimicking
complex biolocomotion by means of simple self-propulsion mechanisms. Although
experimentally the speed of active particles can be controlled by e.g.
self-generated chemical and thermal gradients, an in-situ change of swimming
direction remains a challenge. In this work, we study self-propulsion of
half-coated spherical colloids in critical binary mixtures and show that the
coupling of local body forces, induced by laser illumination, and the wetting
properties of the colloid, can be used to finely tune both the colloid's
swimming speed and its directionality. We experimentally and numerically
demonstrate that the direction of motion can be reversibly switched by means of
the size and shape of the droplet(s) nucleated around the colloid, depending on
the particle radius and the fluid's ambient temperature. Moreover, the
aforementioned features enable the possibility to realize both negative and
positive phototaxis in light intensity gradients. Our results can be extended
to other types of half-coated microswimmers, provided that both of their
hemispheres are selectively made active but with distinct physical properties.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures. Scientific Reports (Received: 04 August 2017,

Accidents with venomous and poisonous animals: their impact on occupational health in Colombia
ABSTRACT: Venomous or poisonous animals are a very common cause of
accidents in Colombia. Such accidents occur due to vertebrates
such as snakes and fish or invertebrates such as scorpions, spiders,
bees, etc. The most affected individuals are young people ages
15 to 45. They are mainly farmers and fishermen. These events
can be considered work accidents given their characteristics.
Nevertheless, the occupational risk insurance companies, the
central Colombian government, and the regional, departmental,
and municipal governmental authorities do not record or study
these events. Therefore, the true magnitude of the problems
caused by this, and the social, economic and occupational losses
for Colombia and its companies are not perceived. Likewise,
Colombian companies lack protocols, manuals, mechanisms
for the identification of potentially dangerous animals to which
workers are exposed based on their sector or occupation. This
critical factor can have direct implications in the treatments
applied to specific cases. This review article attempts to
contextualize the impact of poisonous and venomous animals
on the health of workers by presenting theoretical foundations
and concepts for approaching this issue.RESUMEN: Los accidentes debidos a animales venenos o ponzoñosos
