    Prevalence of metabolic syndrome in HIV patients under antiretroviral treatment in CAPASITS from Reynosa, Tamaulipas

    Introduction: Highly effective antiretroviral therapy has been demonstrated a decrease in morbidity, mortality, life expectancy and quality of life of HIV-infected patients. However, HIV-infected persons, over time of receiving antiretroviral treatment, may develop different metabolic disorders, such as adipose tissue, lipid metabolism and the development of arterial hypertension, increase in BMI, decrease in HDL cholesterol and insulin resistance which can with lead to the development of metabolic syndrome. Methodology: A cross-sectional observational study was carried out, the sample consisted of 122 HIV patients on ART. All patients signed an informed consent form. Sociodemographic data and clinical history were collected. Subsequently, anthropometric data (height, weight and waist circumference) and vital signs (blood pressure) were measured. Results: A total population of n=122 participated in this study, of which the majority was male with 62.3% (n=76) and 37.7% (n=46) female. The mean age of the patients was 37.54 (±11.48) years, with a range of 19 to 60 years. The frequency of Metabolic Syndrome of HIV seropositive patients under antiretroviral treatment is observed, where 41%(n=50) have metabolic syndrome, while 59% (n=72) do not present metabolic syndrome. In women, the metabolic syndrome is present in 64% (n=32) while in men it is present in 36% (n=18) with statistical significance (value of p= .000). Conclusion: There is a high prevalence of metabolic syndrome in our study population 41% in which the female gender predominated in patients receiving antiretroviral treatment in the CAPASITS of the city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas

    Entorno extensible para la monitorización y detección de síntomas de depresión

    La depresión es una enfermedad silenciosa que está aumentando de forma alarmante debido al ritmo de vida de la sociedad. Los propios síntomas de la depresión hacen que los pacientes se enfrenten a barreras psicológicas que dificultan la búsqueda de tratamiento. Actualmente, los dispositivos móviles están siendo usados para monitorizar el comportamiento de las personas y, así, identificar si presentan distintas enfermedades. En este artículo se presenta un conjunto de aplicaciones que detectan síntomas de depresión de forma pasiva para el usuario, reduciendo los posibles obstáculos para la identificación de esta enfermedad. Estas aplicaciones han sido desarrolladas para que los datos monitorizados puedan ser reutilizados por otros sistemas, sin que ello conlleve un incremento en el consumo de recursos.Universidad de Málaga.     Regioselective formation of\ud [2-(η5-cyclopentadienyl)-2-fluorenylpropane]-titanium complexes:\ud precursors, synthesis, structure and reactivity

    The 2-cyclopentadienyl-2-fluorenylpropane ligand has been converted into the monometalated derivatives M[CMe2(C5H4)(C13H9)] (M=Li, Tl,) and CMe2[C5H4(SiMe3)](C13H9). These alkylating reagents have been characterized, and used to synthesize a new series of organotitanium (IV) complexes. The trimethylsilyl derivative was treated with TiCl4 to give the monocyclopentadienyl compound [Ti{CMe2(η5-C5H4)(C13H9)}Cl3]. Reaction of the thallium derivative with [Ti(η5-C5R5)Cl3] afforded the ‘mixed-ring’ dicyclopentadienyl complexes [Ti{CMe2(η5-C5H4)(C13H9)}(η5-C5R5)Cl2] (R=H, Me), whereas the reaction of TiCl4 with two equivalents of the lithium compound led to the dicyclopentadienyl complex [Ti{CMe2(η5-C5H4)(C13H9)}2Cl2]. The monocyclopentadienyl compound [Ti{CMe2(η5-C5H4)(C13H9)}Cl3] was readily hydrolyzed to give [Ti{CMe2(η5-C5H4)(C13H9)}Cl2]2(μ-O) in wet acetone (0.5% H2O). The dicyclopentadienyl derivative [Ti{CMe2(η5-C5H4)(C13H9)}(η5-C5Me5)Cl2] was further converted into [Ti{CMe2(η5-C5H4)(C13H9)}(η5-C5Me5)Me2] by alkylation with LiMe. Structural data of the titanium complexes demonstrate the η5-coordination of the cyclopentadienyl ring of the ancillary ligand, whereas the fluorenyl ring is not coordinated to the metal center. This mode of coordination is confirmed by the X-ray crystal structure analysis of [Ti{CMe2(η5-C5H4)(C13H9)}2Cl2]

    Sodium N-methyldithiocarbamate impact on soil bacterial diversity in greenhouse tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) crop

    The constant use of sodium N-methyldithiocarbamate (metam sodium: MS) in protected agriculture in México has attracted the attention of researchers and producers on their effects on the environment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the impact of MS on the bacterial community structure in an agricultural soil with tomato crop (Solanum lycopersicum L.) considering the different phenological stages of the crop. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, with a completely randomized block design with two treatments: 1) without MS and 2) with application of 400 L·ha-1 of MS. For the determination of the bacterial structure, the biodiversity indexes of richness (S), diversity (H') and equity (J'), identification of operational taxonomic units (OTU) were used through the T-RFLP technique. Application of MS in soil showed no significant effect on bacterial richness. However, the application of MS does alter the structure of the bacterial community (H' and J') in each of the tomato phenological stages.     El presente proyecto tiene la finalidad de presentar la puesta en marcha de un Fast Food saludable en base a postres, los cuales serán productos de rápida preparación, bajos en grasas y azucares y comercializados a través de las redes sociales, para a ello se realizará la producción de cuatro combinaciones de postres y presentaciones, dirigido a los habitantes de la Molina, Lima. Para el presente trabajo se desarrolló el proyecto de negocio Damia S.A.C, como una empresa fundada por tres socios con conocimientos en Administración de Empresas y Marketing; Con este proyecto se busca descubrir la viabilidad de la implementación de un producto dirigido a un público de 20 a 49 años, en especial a personas con preferencias por el consumo de alimentos saludables o por problemas salud. Se realizó una encuesta a 1,281personas de edades entre 20 a 49 años para poder determinar sus expectativas y preferencias para segmentar a los potenciales clientes; La muestra de forma cualitativa se realizará mediante el focus group con participantes dentro del rango de edades determinado y con experiencias previas con productos saludables, que servirá de gran ayuda para el desarrollo del proyecto de investigación.     Contaminación por metales pesados en sedimentos de un área ribereña en San Luis Paotosí, México

    The aim of this study was to determine the presence of heavy metal in sediments of a fragmented riparian area, as an indicator of environmental pollution in San Luis Potosi, Mexico. Eleven sampling points, including four different land uses were established: Pond, Agriculture, Livestock and Rural Settlement. Sediment samples were taken during the seasons of spring, summer and autumn 2010, and winter 2011. The technique of ICP-MS was used to determine Pb, Cd, Cu, and Zn data analysis was performed with Minitab®. Land use has an effect on the accumulation of Cu, Zn and Cd, with the agricultural area containing the highest concentrations. The season was a significant factor for concentrations of Zn, Cd and Pb, emphasizing spring 2010 and autumn 2010, respectively. Significant correlations were found between Cu-Zn (r = 0.746), Pb-Cu (r = 0.635) and Cd-Zn (r = 0.720). The normal limits of Cu, Cd, Zn and Pb in sediments established by the Canadian Environmental Quality Guidelines were exceeded. By using other scientific and technical sources, maximum levels of Cu, Cd and Pb were defined with a condition of high pollution. This condition is attributed to the land use change dynamics, to wastewater discharges, and urban, agricultural and livestock wastes. Thus, a further environmental assessment is recomended for the study area.Se determinó la presencia de metales pesados en sedimentos de un sistema ribereño fragmentado por usos de suelo como indicador de contaminación ambiental en San Luis Potosí, México. Se establecieron once puntos de muestreo considerando los usos de suelo: Estanque, agrícola, Asentamiento rural y Ganadero. Durante las estaciones de primavera, verano y otoño de 2010 e invierno 2011, se tomaron muestras de sedimentos. Se utilizó la técnica de ICP-MS para determinar Pb, Cd, Cu and Zn y los datos fueron analizados en Minitab®. El uso de suelo incide en la acumulación de Cu, Zn y Cd, siendo la zona agrícola la que cuenta con mayores concentraciones. La estación fue significativa respecto de las concentraciones de Zn, Cd y Pb, destacando primavera 2010 y otoño 2010 respectivamente. Asimismo, fueron encontradas correlaciones significativas entre Cu-Zn (r = 0,746), Pb-Cu (r = 0,635) y Cd-Zn (r = 0,720). Los límites normales de Cu, Cd, Zn y Pb en sedimentos establecidos por la Canadian Environmental Quality Guidelines fueron rebasados. Con otras fuentes se definieron que los niveles máximos de Cu, Cd y Pb presentaron una condición alta de contaminación. Esta condición es atribuida a la dinámica de usos de suelo, descargas de aguas residuales, desechos sólidos urbanos, agrícolas y ganaderos, recomendándose continuar su evaluación ambiental

    The Interplay between Natural Selection and Susceptibility to Melanoma on Allele 374F of SLC45A2 Gene in a South European Population

    We aimed to study the selective pressures interacting on SLC45A2 to investigate the interplay between selection and susceptibility to disease. Thus, we enrolled 500 volunteers from a geographically limited population (Basques from the North of Spain) and by resequencing the whole coding region and intron 5 of the 34 most and the 34 least pigmented individuals according to the reflectance distribution, we observed that the polymorphism Leu374Phe (L374F, rs16891982) was statistically associated with skin color variability within this sample. In particular, allele 374F was significantly more frequent among the individuals with lighter skin. Further genotyping an independent set of 558 individuals of a geographically wider population with known ancestry in the Spanish population also revealed that the frequency of L374F was significantly correlated with the incident UV radiation intensity. Selection tests suggest that allele 374F is being positively selected in South Europeans, thus indicating that depigmentation is an adaptive process. Interestingly, by genotyping 119 melanoma samples, we show that this variant is also associated with an increased susceptibility to melanoma in our populations. The ultimate driving force for this adaptation is unknown, but it is compatible with the vitamin D hypothesis. This shows that molecular evolution analysis can be used as a useful technology to predict phenotypic and biomedical consequences in humans

    A Novel Lipase from Streptomyces exfoliatus DSMZ 41693 for Biotechnological Applications

    Genome mining of Streptomyces exfoliatus DSMZ 41693 has allowed us to identify four different lipase-encoding sequences, and one of them (SeLipC) has been successfully cloned and extracellularly expressed using Rhodococcus sp. T104 as a host. SeLipC was purified by one-step hydrophobic interaction chromatography. The enzyme is a monomeric protein of 27.6 kDa, which belongs to subfamily I.7 of lipolytic enzymes according to its phylogenetic analysis and biochemical characterization. The purified enzyme shows the highest activity at 60 °C and an optimum pH of 8.5, whereas thermal stability is significantly improved when protein concentration is increased, as confirmed by thermal deactivation kinetics, circular dichroism, and differential scanning calorimetry. Enzyme hydrolytic activity using p-nitrophenyl palmitate (pNPP) as substrate can be modulated by different water-miscible organic cosolvents, detergents, and metal ions. Likewise, kinetic parameters for pNPP are: KM = 49.6 µM, kcat = 57 s−1, and kcat/KM = 1.15 × 106 s−1·M−1. SeLipC is also able to hydrolyze olive oil and degrade several polyester-type polymers such as poly(butylene succinate) (PBS), poly(butylene succinate)-co-(butylene adipate) (PBSA), and poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL).
