Influence of the Surface Viscosity on the Breakup of a Surfactant-Laden Drop
We examine both theoretically and experimentally the breakup of a pendant drop loaded with an
insoluble surfactant. The experiments show that a significant amount of surfactant is trapped in the resulting
satellite droplet. This result contradicts previous theoretical predictions, where the effects of surface tension
variation were limited to solutocapillarity and Marangoni stresses. We solve numerically the hydrodynamic
equations, including not only those effects but also those of surface shear and dilatational viscosities. We
show that surface viscosities play a critical role to explain the accumulation of surfactant in the satellite
droplet.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad DPI2013-46485-C3-1-R, TRA2013- 45808-RJunta de Extremadura GR1004
Memory and Mass Graves: Political Strategies of Independent Documentaries
This article examines the political strategies of independent
Spanish documentaries of the 2000s and 2010s in the
context of debates about historical memory. The hypothesis
of this research is that independent documentaries can operate
as vehicles for practices and discourses that are free
from the institutional domestication normally affecting film
and television productions dealing with memory. It is thus
argued that documentary film practices distanced from official
political interests can challenge some of the common
assumptions in discussions of historical memory and offer a
bottom-up perspective, in parallel with a process that brings
a grassroots element into public discussions of memory. First
of all, the article examines some of the most prominent theoretical
positions on memory. We then analyse the films
Soldados Anónimos/Soldats Anònims (Pere Vilà and Isaki Lacuesta,
2009), Los materiales (Los Hijos, 2010) and Dime quién
era Sanchicorrota (Jorge Tur, 2013) as examples that illustrate
these ideas. Based on a study of these films, we question the
use of testimony and the indexical value of the document as
the foundations of the discourse of the film documentary,
and propose a distancing from these practices as a way of
avoiding the sentimental use of memory evident in official
political positons on the Spanish Civil War.Este artículo examina las estrategias políticas del documental
(Pere Vilà e Isaki Lacuesta, 2009), Los materiales (Los Hijos,
This article considers the relationship between cinema, migration and archives. Based on a historiographical approach, it explores the ways that archives of very different types have become key spaces for research and artistic creation related to human displacement and the consequences of colonialism. In this way, the notion of archive and its traditional relationship with the nation-state is challenged and redefined through the blurring of national and regional boun-daries by migration experiences. In line with recent approaches to archival studies and migration studies, the article posits the idea of the migrant archive as a way of examining and activating the so-cial, political, and material issues underlying all archives, arguing for the need to reconsider and question the relationship of the archive with human mobility flows through research and film production, and at the same time calling for public debate (in both academic and cinematic circles) about the mechanisms of control, the rationales of cultural heritage and the processes of past and present writing on migration and its representation in archives.
Dividend Policy in Spanish Prívate Banks: Behavioral Models. The purpose of this paper is to verify different behavioral models in dividend policy. The research has been done with a sample of Spanish private banks which are divided in two periods: 1976-80 and 1981-85. We test the hypothesis of partíal adjustement and the hypothesis of adaptative expectations for both periods. We use an integration model which refunds the two assumptions. The empirical results show that in the first period of time we can accept that only one of the effects is instant, while during 1981-85 both efects are it.El propósito de este trabajo es contrastar diferentes modelos de comportamiento en política de dividendos.
Entropies and IPR as Markers for a Phase Transition in a Two-Level Model for Atom–Diatomic Molecule Coexistence
This work is part of the I+D+i projects PID2019-104002GB-C22 and PID2020-114687GB-I00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033. This work is also part of grant Group FQM-160, EU FEDER funds US-1380840 and the project PAIDI 2020 with reference P20_01247, funded by the Consejería de Economía, Conocimiento, Empresas y Universidad, Junta de Andalucía (Spain) and “ERDF—A Way of Making Europe”.A quantum phase transition (QPT) in a simple model that describes the coexistence of atoms
and diatomic molecules is studied. The model, which is briefly discussed, presents a second-order
ground state phase transition in the thermodynamic (or large particle number) limit, changing from a
molecular condensate in one phase to an equilibrium of diatomic molecules–atoms in coexistence
in the other one. The usual markers for this phase transition are the ground state energy and the
expected value of the number of atoms (alternatively, the number of molecules) in the ground state.
In this work, other markers for the QPT, such as the inverse participation ratio (IPR), and particularly,
the Rényi entropy, are analyzed and proposed as QPT markers. Both magnitudes present abrupt
changes at the critical point of the QPT.Consejería de Economía, Conocimiento, Empresas y Universidad, Junta de AndalucíaSecretaría de Estado de Investigacion, Desarrollo e Innovacion

The geography of high-value biodiversity areas for terrestrial vertebrates in Western Europe and their coverage by protected area networks
We identified high-value biodiversity areas (HVBAs) of terrestrial vertebrates according to a combined index of biodiversity (CBI) for each major taxon and a standardized biodiversity index (SBI) for all taxa in 2195 cells of 50 × 50 km in Western Europe to evaluate whether these areas are included in the current protected area networks. The World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA) and NATURA 2000 protected area network were used to assess the protected area cover in HVBAs. WDPA and NATURA 2000 were geographically quite complementary as WDPA is more densely represented in Central and Northern Europe and NATURA 2000 in the Mediterranean basin. A total of 729 cells were identified as HVBAs. From the total of these HVBA areas, NATURA 2000 network was present in more cells (660) than the WDPA network (584 cells). The sum of protected land percentages across all the HVBA cells was 28.8%. The identified HVBA cells according to the SBI included 603 or 78.2% of all vertebrate species in the study region, whereas the identified HVBA cells according to the SBI for individual taxa included 47 (90.4%) species of amphibians, 79 (74.5%) of reptiles, 417 (88.5%) of birds, and 130 (91.5%) of mammals. However, neither network was present in 7 or 3% of the identified HVBA cells. Thus, we recommend expanding protected areas in Europe to fill this gap and improve coverage of vertebrate species to strengthen biodiversity conservation. This research was supported by the\ud
