SCILAB free software for numerical computation: a wind energy educational tool

    Get PDF
New environmental technologies are designed and implemented exponentially, in order to mitigate climate change. This fact brings with it that engineering students and specialized technicians from different sectors of renewable energy such as wind, solar, geothermal energy, etc., need to have access to different types of technological educational materials and simulation programs for free. In this ambit, this paper discusses the results obtained with Scilab free software as an application for modeling wind turbines within the subjects of wind energy. The use of Scilab, as an open-source software, helps to disseminate the results and simulations and, at the same time, provides the students a more detailed and low-level study of wind turbine control strategies. The application is based on a 1.5 MW Doubly Fed Induction Generators (DFIG) modeling, which allows us to estimate the electric performance and dynamics under different wind conditions. Simulations and modeling were tested in the wind subjects of the Official Master of Renewable Energies, Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena, Spain.2022-2

They have a discharge prevalencia and provoke a high economic cost (associated with falls and decrease of the labour performance). Nevertheless, nowadays taken minutes treatments based on the evidence do not exist for these disorders. In this work, across a study of case, let’s sense beforehand a program of treatment (cognitive-behaviorual) that includes strategies of Positive Psychology and that uses technologies(skills) of virtual reality (“ EMMA’S world “), which aim is to help the person not to overcome only the sressful event and the consequences that it has had in his/her life, but also to learn of the happened, so that she should work out strengthened of this situatio

Efficacy of “Family Connections”, a program for relatives of people with borderline personality disorder, in the Spanish population: study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

Background: Patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD) experience significant affect regulation difficulties that cause serious consequences in their work, emotional, and social environments. This dysfunctional pattern also produces great suffering and a heavy burden on their relatives. Fortunately, some studies show that treatment of relatives of people with BPD begins to be important in the patients’ recovery and in improving family dynamics. One of the treatments that has obtained the most empirical support is Family connections (FC). This 12-session program is an adaptation of different Dialectical Behavior Therapy strategies. To test the efficacy of FC, five uncontrolled clinical trials were conducted, with pre-post treatment and follow-up assessments. The results of these studies and subsequent replications showed an improvement in family attitudes and caregiver burnout. Our research team adapted FC for delivery in the Spanish population. We intend to test the efficacy of this program versus a treatment as usual condition. Moreover, we aim to test the efficacy of this program and study its effectiveness (in terms of participants’ acceptance). This paper presents the study protocol. Methods: The study is a randomized controlled trial. The participants will be recruited in a Personality Disorders Unit and randomly assigned to one of two treatment conditions: Family Connections group (FC) or Treatment As Usual (TAU). Primary outcome measures will be the BAS and FAD-GFS. Secondary outcomes will include DASS-21, FES, GS, and QLI. Participants’ treatment acceptance and degree of satisfaction will also be measured. Participants will be assessed at pre-, post-treatment, and 6-month follow-up. Intention to treat and per protocol analyses will be performed. Discussion: This is the first study on FC for relatives of people with borderline personality disorder (BPD) compared to an active condition (TAU), and this is the first time relatives’ and patients’ data will be analyzed. In addition, it is the first study to test the efficacy of the program in Spain. This intervention could contribute to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of current treatment programs for relatives of people with BPD, help to decrease burden, and improve the family connection.Funding for the study was provided by grants: the Ministry of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society (Generalitat Valenciana): I + D + I projects developed by Emerging groups. GV/2019/148 has been awarded to VG as the main investigator of the project and PhD grant has been awarded to IF-F from the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport (FPU) (FPU17/04210) to produce a doctoral thesis. Dialectical Behavior Therapy in the Treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder and Eating Disorders Comorbidity: A Pilot Study in a Naturalistic Setting

    No full text
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) has been shown to be successful in the treatment of borderline personality disorder and eating disorders separately. The present study compares Standard Dialectical Behavior Therapy with a Treatment as Usual Cognitive Behavior Therapy (TAU CBT) for the treatment of borderline personality disorder and eating disorders comorbid features. A total of 118 women diagnosed with borderline personality disorders and eating disorders were assigned to one of two treatment groups in a naturalistic setting (DBT = 71; TAU CBT = 47). DBT showed a greater decrease in dysfunctional behaviors used to regulate emotions and related to borderline personality disorder (i.e. substance abuse, impulsive money spending, unprotected sex, etc.), non-suicidal self-injuries, and depressive symptoms, as well as an increase in cognitive reappraisal and global functioning. DBT and TAU CBT showed similar improvements in suicide attempts, dysfunctional eating behaviors (i.e. binge eating, purgative behaviors, and restriction), hospitalizations, negative and positive affect, and expressive suppression. Results of this study support the utility and effectiveness of standard DBT for comorbid borderline personality disorder and eating disorders in naturalistic settings. Replications of this study and randomized controlled trials are needed

RecruitNet: A global database of plant recruitment networks

    Get PDF
Plant recruitment interactions (i.e., what recruits under what) shape the composition, diversity, and structure of plant communities. Despite the huge body of knowledge on the mechanisms underlying recruitment interactions among species, we still know little about the structure of the recruitment networks emerging in ecological communities. Modeling and analyzing the community-level structure of plant recruitment interactions as a complex network can provide relevant information on ecological and evolutionary processes acting both at the species and ecosystem levels. We report a data set containing 143 plant recruitment networks in 23 countries across five continents, including temperate and tropical ecosystems. Each network identifies the species under which another species recruits. All networks report the number of recruits (i.e., individuals) per species. The data set includes >850,000 recruiting individuals involved in 118,411 paired interactions among 3318 vascular plant species across the globe. The cover of canopy species and open ground is also provided. Three sampling protocols were used: (1) The Recruitment Network (RN) protocol (106 networks) focuses on interactions among established plants (“canopy species”) and plants in their early stages of recruitment (“recruit species”). A series of plots was delimited within a locality, and all the individuals recruiting and their canopy species were identified; (2) The paired Canopy-Open (pCO) protocol (26 networks) consists in locating a potential canopy plant and identifying recruiting individuals under the canopy and in a nearby open space of the same area; (3) The Georeferenced plot (GP) protocol (11 networks) consists in using information from georeferenced individual plants in large plots to infer canopy-recruit interactions. Some networks incorporate data for both herbs and woody species, whereas others focus exclusively on woody species. The location of each study site, geographical coordinates, country, locality, responsible author, sampling dates, sampling method, and life habits of both canopy and recruit species are provided. This database will allow researchers to test ecological, biogeographical, and evolutionary hypotheses related to plant recruitment interactions.
