La no linealidad del efecto par educacional : evidencia para Chile

Este trabajo muestra evidencia de no linealidades en el impacto marginal del efecto par (EP) para alumnos de educación primaria en Chile, registrados en la encuesta del Sistema de Medición de la Calidad de la Educación (SIMCE). Se ajusta un modelo semiparamétrico (Yatchew, 1997 y 1998) y de MCO con interacciones, que controlan por selección desde y hacia establecimientos, a través de la inclusión de variables que aproximan ambos fenómenos. Las estimaciones muestran que el EP posee un impacto marginal creciente y luego decreciente. Adicionalmente, estimaciones por MCO comprueban que el EP actúa con mayor fuerza en alumnos socialmente vulnerables.Esto sugiere que aquellas políticas que disminuyan los niveles de segregación socioeconómica tienen el potencial de generar efectos positivos sobre el rendimiento promedio

Ticuatepe un destino turistico innovador de Managua

El Municipio de Ticuantepe, es uno de los sitios más prestigiosos y atractivos turísticos del departamento de Managua. Este lugar deslumbra a todo turista con sus riquezas naturales desarrolladas en un ecoturismo y agroturismo propio de la región.Presentamos este ensayo Conformada por cuatro capítulos que detallan los antecedentes, características y condiciones del departamento de Managua y el municipio de estudio. En el primer capítulo se abordan los antecedentes turísticos que poseen Managua, su desarrollo turístico por municipio y sus atractivos. En el segundo capítulo se describe al municipio de Ticuantepe: su ubicación, historia, manifestaciones culturales y las actividades económicas que sostiene este municipio. En el tercer capítulo se desarrolla las actividades turísticas de Ticuantepe y sus atractivos y en el último capítulo se analiza de manera documental las estrategias, planes y acciones que han contribuido en el desarrollo turístico de Ticuantepe. En esta investigación se obtuvo como resultado. Que Ticuantepe es un municipio con un potencial eco turístico inmenso por poseer todas las riquezas naturales presentes en el. Sin embargo necesitan ser condicionada con ofertas turísticas que podrían aumentar el rendimiento turístico natural de este lugar

Effects of a competitive triathlon on plasma concentrations of tryptophan and branched-chain amino acids

The aim of this work was to determine the acute responses of tryptophan and branched chain amino acids to a triathlon competition. Fourteen male triathletes were studied. All took part in a international triathlon race consisting of 1,5 km swimming, 40 km biking and 10 km running. Venous blood samples were drawn before (-24 h) and after (15 min) the triathlon. Plasma concentration of branched chain amino acids and total and free tryptophan were determined. Branched chain amino acids decreased from 463 - 108.3 to 364 - 98.9 mol/L (p < 0.03). Free tryptophan increases from 9.2 to 16.3 mol/L (p < 0.006). Furthermore the ratio of free trytophan to branched chain amino acids increased from 2.07 - 0.48 to 4.24 - 0.79 (p < 0.001). This increases the rate of transport of tryptophan accross the blood-brain barrier and also increases the rate of synthesis of 5-hydroxytryptamine in the central nervous system. A Dynamic Theory of the Area of Distribution

Aims To propose and analyze a general, dynamic, process-oriented theory of the area of distribution. Methods The area of distribution is modelled by combining (by multiplication) three matrices: one matrix represents movements, another niche tolerances, and a third, biotic interactions. Results are derived from general properties of this product and from simulation of a cellular automaton defined in terms of the matrix operations. Everything is implemented practically in an R package. Results Results are obtained by simulation and by mathematical analysis. We show that the mid-domain effect is a direct consequence of dispersal; that to include movements to Ecological Niche Modeling significantly affects results, but cannot be done without choosing an ancestral area of distribution. We discuss ways of estimating such ancestral areas. We show that, in our approach, movements and niche effects are mixed in ways almost impossible to disentangle, and show this is a consequence of the singularity of a matrix. We introduce a tool (the Connectivity-Suitability-Dispersal plot) to extend the results of simple niche modeling to understand the effects of dispersal. Main conclusions The conceptually straightforward scheme we present for the area of distribution integrates, in a mathematically sound and computationally feasible way, several key ideas in biogeography: the geographic and environmental matrix, the Grinnellian niche, dispersal capacity and the ancestral area of origin of groups of species. We show that although full simulations are indispensable to obtain the dynamics of an area of distribution, interesting results can be derived simply by analyzing the matrices representing the dynamics.Comment: 45 pages including appendixes, 12 figures, submitted to Journal of Biogeograph

Influence of using hydrochloric acid for measuring the concentration of total carnitine in human plasma by Tandem mass spectrometry

The present study establishes whether the pH of samples is crucial for measuring total carnitine in human plasma by tandem mass spectrometry and if it is necessary to neutralize the samples after alkaline hydrolysis of acylcarnitines. Free and total carnitine of ten plasma samples were measured by a radioenzymatic assay as a reference method, and forward there were analyzed by tandem mass spectrometry divided into two groups: treated with hydrochloric acid and without hydrochloric acid measuring each sample five times for both variables. Free and total carnitine concentrations were similar for the radioenzymatic essay and tandem mass spectrometry. There was no significant difference between the two analyzed variables (treated with hydrochloric acid and without hydrochloric acid). It could be concluded that the pH of samples is no crucial for measuring total carnitine in plasma by tandem mass spectrometry, and it is not necessary to neutralize the samples after alkaline hydrolysis of acylcarnitines, then the shorter method, without adding hydrochloric acid can be used for total carnitine measurement in plasma by tandem mass spectrometryEl presente estudio establece, si el pH al cual se procesan las muestras, condiciona la determinación de la carnitina total en plasma, mediante el uso de espectrometría de masas en tándem; así mismo analiza, si es necesario neutralizar las muestras luego de la hidrólisis alcalina de las acilcarnitinas. Carnitina libre y total de 10 muestras de plasma fueron medidas mediante el ensayo radioenzimático, como método de referencia. Posteriormente fueron medidas cinco veces cada muestra, mediante espectrometría de masas en tándem utilizando ácido hidroclorhídrico y sin usar ácido hidroclorhídrico. Las concentraciones de carnitina libre y total, fueron similares utilizando ensayo radioenzimático y espectrometría de masas en tándem. No se encontró diferencias significativas entre las dos variables analizadas (con ácido hidroclorhídrico, o sin ácido hidroclórhídrico). Puede concluirse que el pH de las muestras no es crucial para medir carnitina total en plasma por espectrometría de masas en tandem y no es necesario neutralizar las muestras luego de la hidrólisis alcalina de las acilcarnitinas. Audio-Visual Aids in EFL classroom : integrating technology in language teaching according to students' learning styles

Through this paper, our aim is to present and discuss the findings of a research study conducted by Mathew and Alidmat (2013) on “the Usefulness of Audio-Visual Aids in EFL Classroom: Implication for Effective Instruction”. However, we also want to go beyond, and expand the concept about audio-visual aids citing some researchers that can explain different issues related to the topic in order to build an idea about the importance of integrating these technological aids in the process of learning a foreign language, but taking into account that not all learners achieve language objectives in the same way. Before starting to discuss the article, it is important to state some ideas that can be meaningful to understand the topic and the arguments we are going to present

Utopías de sabiduría y santa locura: Ensayo sobre la mística cristiana de raíz bizantina primitiva

El autor nos entrega en este artículo cuatro fábulas místicas que han configurado la espiritualidad bizantina primitiva, considerando  tanto  la mística greco-bizantina de los siglos II al V, como, lo “la fase ascendente” que se extiende desde el siglo VI al X, siendo éstas la Fábula Antoniana, la de Evagrio Pontico, la de la Escala Espiritual de Juan Climaco y la de los Santos Locos. Concluye el artículo señalando que la espiritualidad bizantina primitiva se configuró como una “espiritualidad del corazón", en tanto los malos pensamientos vienen desde fuera del corazón, de los demonios, que acechan el corazón del hombre.L’auteur nous présente dans cet article quatre fables mystiques qui ont configuré la spiritualité byzantine primitive, considérant aussi bien la mystique gréco-byzantine du IIème siècle au Vème siècle, que la “phase ascendante” qui s’étend du VIème siècle au Xème siècle, correspondant aux Fables d’Antoniana, celle d’Evagrio Pontico, celle de l’Echelle Spirituelle de Juan Climaco et celle des Saints Fous. Il conclut l’article en signalant que la spiritualité byzantine primitive s’est configurée comme une « spiritualité du cœur », postulant que les mauvaises pensées proviennent de l’extérieur du cœur, des démons qui guettent le cœur de l’homme.The author shows us in this article four mystical fables that have shaped early Byzantine spirituality, considering both the Greco-Byzantine mystic of the II to V centuries, as the "ascending phase" which extends from the VI to the X centuries, being these Anthonys Fable, Evagrius Ponticus fable, the Spiritual Scale Juan Climaco’s fable and that of the Holy Fools. The paper concludes by noting that the early Byzantine spirituality was configured as a "spirituality of the heart", while the bad thoughts come from outside the heart, from the demons that haunt the human heart

Pedagogía y ética en la construcción de ciudadanía: la formación en valores en la educación comunitaria

El artículo reconstruye el “ciclo moderno” de la educación comunitaria latinoamericana desde la producción intelectual de Paulo Freire, pasando `por la experiencia de la revolución sandinista, el desarrollo de los movimientos democráticos en América del Sur y la emergencia de nuevos movimientos sociales en los años ochenta para llegar finalmente a los años noventa que vuelve a retomar la primera utopía freiriana. El autor aborda complementariamente la ética de la educación comunitaria y el desafío de construir ciudadanías democráticas desde los valores de ésta.Cet article reconstruit le “cycle moderne” de l’éducation communautaire latino-américaine à partir de la production intellectuelle de Paulo Freire, passant ‘par l’expérience de la révolution sandiniste, le développement des mouvements démocratiques en Amérique du Sud et l’émergence de nouveaux mouvements sociaux dans les années quatre-vingt pour enfin parvenir aux années quatre-vingt-dix au cours desquelles s’opère un retour sur la première utopie freirienne. L’auteur aborde de manière complémentaire l’éthique de l’éducation communautaire et le défi de construire des citoyennetés démocratiques à partir des valeurs de cette même éthique.The article reconstructs the "modern cycle " of communitarian education in Latin American from the intellectual output of Paulo Freire, passing through the experience of the Sandinista revolution, the development of democratic movements in South America and the emergence of new social movements in the eighties, to finally reah the nineties, which return to  the first Freire ‘s utopia.
