In this work, we investigate the existence and multiplicity results for positive solutions to a singular (p1,p2)(p_1,p_2)-Laplacian system with coupled integral boundary conditions and a parameter (μ,λ)R+3(\mu,\lambda) \in \mathbb{R}_+^3 . Using sub-super solutions method and fixed point index theorems, it is shown that there exists a continuous surface C\mathcal{C} which separates R+2×(0,)\mathbb{R}_+^2 \times (0,\infty) into two regions O1\mathcal{O}_1 and O2\mathcal{O}_2 such that the problem under consideration has two positive solutions for (μ,λ)O1,( \mu,\lambda) \in \mathcal{O}_1, at least one positive solution for (μ,λ)C( \mu,\lambda) \in \mathcal{C}, and no positive solutions for $( \mu,\lambda) \in \mathcal{O}_2.

Effects of Simple and Disposable Chicken Cages for Experimental Eimeria Infections

During experimental Eimeria infections in chickens, facilities are often contaminated by fecal oocysts known to be highly resistant to both chemical and enzymatic treatments. Thus, studies using experimental Eimeria infections have been limited due to the difficulty of complete elimination of residual oocysts from both cages and facilities. To overcome this limitation, simple, inexpensive, and disposable cages were constructed from cardboard boxes and tested during experimental Eimeria maxima infections. The cages were used in animal rooms with only a 1.7% evidence of coccidia contamination between adjacent cages. No significant differences in fecal oocyst output and body weight gain were noted between animals housed in disposable cages and animals housed in wire control cages. This cage design is a useful means for preventing oocyst contamination during experimental conditions, suggesting that this disposable cage design could be used for other avian infectious disease studies

The effects of midazolam and sevoflurane on the GABAA receptors with alternatively spliced variants of the γ2 subunit

Emergence agitation after sevoflurane anesthesia in children can be prevented by midazolam. Alternative splicing of the GABA(A) receptor changes with age. Therefore, we hypothesized that alternative splicing of the γ2 subunit affects the GABA current when applying sevoflurane and midazolam

Drosophila TRPN( = NOMPC) Channel Localizes to the Distal End of Mechanosensory Cilia

BACKGROUND: A TRPN channel protein is essential for sensory transduction in insect mechanosensory neurons and in vertebrate hair cells. The Drosophila TRPN homolog, NOMPC, is required to generate mechanoreceptor potentials and currents in tactile bristles. NOMPC is also required, together with a TRPV channel, for transduction by chordotonal neurons of the fly's antennal ear, but the TRPN or TRPV channels have distinct roles in transduction and in regulating active antennal mechanics. The evidence suggests that NOMPC is a primary mechanotransducer channel, but its subcellular location-key for understanding its exact role in transduction-has not yet been established. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Here, by immunostaining, we locate NOMPC at the tips of mechanosensory cilia in both external and chordotonal sensory neurons, as predicted for a mechanotransducer channel. In chordotonal neurons, the TRPN and TRPV channels are respectively segregated into distal and proximal ciliary zones. This zonal separation is demarcated by and requires the ciliary dilation, an intraciliary assembly of intraflagellar transport (IFT) proteins. CONCLUSIONS: Our results provide a strong evidence for NOMPC as a primary transduction channel in Drosophila mechansensory organs. The data also reveals a structural basis for the model of auditory chordotonal transduction in which the TRPN and TRPV channels play sequential roles in generating and amplifying the receptor potential, but have opposing roles in regulating active ciliary motility

Identification and Comparative Expression Analysis of Interleukin 2/15 Receptor β Chain in Chickens Infected with E. tenella

BACKGROUND: Interleukin (IL) 2 and IL15 receptor β chain (IL2/15Rβ, CD122) play critical roles in signal transduction for the biological activities of IL2 and IL15. Increased knowledge of non-mammalian IL2/15Rβ will enhance the understanding of IL2 and IL15 functions. METHODOLOGY/PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: [corrected] Chicken IL2/15Rβ (chIL2/15Rβ) cDNA was cloned using 5'/3'-RACE. The predicted protein sequence contained 576 amino acids and typical features of the type-I cytokine receptor family. COS-7 cells transfected with chIL2/15Rβ produced proteins of approximately 75 and 62.5 kDa under normal and tunicamycin-treated conditions, respectively. The genomic structure of chIL2/15Rβ was similar to its mammalian counterparts. chIL2/15Rβ transcripts were detected in the lymphoblast cell line CU205 and in normal lymphoid organs and at moderate levels in bursa samples. Expression profiles of chIL2/15Rβ and its related cytokines and receptors were examined in ConA-stimulated splenic lymphocytes and in ceca-tonsils of Eimeria tenella-infected chickens using quantitative real-time PCR. Expression levels of chIL2/15Rβ, chIL2Rα, and chIL15Rα were generally elevated in ceca-tonsils and ConA-activated splenic lymphocytes. However, chIL2 and chIL15 expression levels were differentially regulated between the samples. chIL2 expression was upregulated in ConA-activated splenic lymphocytes, but not in ceca-tonsils. In constrast, chIL15 expression was upregulated in ceca-tonsils, but not in ConA-activated splenic lymphocytes. CONCLUSIONS/SIGNIFICANCE: We identified an avian form of IL2/15Rβ and compared its gene expression pattern with those of chIL2, chIL15, chIL2Rα, and chIL15Rα. Our observations suggest that chIL15 and its receptors, including chIL2/15Rβ, play important roles in mucosal immunity to intestinal intracellular parasites such as Eimeria

The aim of this thesis is to put into perspective the national approaches to youth employment and training by comparing the higher education system and the professional transition of students in France and South Korea. The educational contexts of the two countries show certain common characteristics concerning the educational hierarchy of the study program and the influence of the degree on the first job, while there are differences in terms of access to higher education : the French education system characterized by early specialization, and the Korean education system represented by the standardized tests. In this context, we conducted a qualitative study to understand the role of student internships in their career choices and professional identities, as well as the implicit relationship of this process with social determinism or opportunities for choice through education. Our empirical research adopted a biographical method describing internship experiences from semi-structured interviews conducted with 21 French and Korean students. According to the results of analysis, students' satisfaction with their internship and their perspective for professional career paths are closely linked to their educational path in the two countries compared. On the other hand, French students and Korean students show different attitudes towards professional choices and psychosocial processes that constitute their professional projects. By highlighting the reality and the choices of students in relation to the question of being and doing in their working life, our analysis suggests that higher education needs to focus more on the transferable skills and adaptability of students in the rapidly changing labor market, without restricting them to rigid education systems and fixed functions
