Higher meson resonances in ρ→π0π0γ\rho \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma and ω→π0π0γ\omega \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma

The role of higher meson resonances with spin 1 and 2 is investigated quantitatively in the decay processes of $\rho \to \pi^0\pi^0 \gamma$ and $\omega \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma$. Among the higher resonances, we find that the $f_2(1270)$ tensor meson can give a nontrivial contribution especially to the $\omega \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma$ decay process. When the $f_2$ contribution is combined with the processes involving the vector and scalar meson intermediate states, a good agreement with the recent measurements is achieved for both decays. The effect of the $f_2(1270)$ is found to be sizable at the intermediate photon energies and may be verified by precise measurements of the recoil photon spectrum of the $\omega \to \pi^0 \pi^0 \gamma$ decay. The dependence of the decay widths on various models for the $\rho$-$\omega$ mixing in the literature is also investigated.Comment: 16 pages, REVTeX, 6 figures, revised version, to appear in Phys. The mechanical behavior of microcellular foams

The mechanical behavior of microcellular open-cell foams prepared by a thermally induced phase separation process are investigated. The foams studied were prepared from isotactic polystyrene, polyacrylonitrile, and poly(4-methyl-1-pentene) (rigid foams), and polyurethane and Lycra (elastomeric foams). Their densities were in the range 0.04--0.27 g/cm3. Conventional polystyrene foams were used for comparison. The moduli and collapse stresses of these foams were measured in compression and compared with the current constitutive laws which relate mechanical properties to densities. A reinforcement technique based on the in-situ precipitation of silica was used to improve the mechanical properties. 13 refs., 4 figs., 3 tabs

Near-edge absorption fine structure and UV photoemission spectroscopy studies of aligned single-walled carbon nanotubes on Si(100) substrates

The self-assembled films of single-walled carbon nanotubes were studied. The study was carried out by using near-edge absorption fine structure (NEAFS) and UV photoemission spectroscopy (UPS). It was found that at lower angles of incidence, the intensity of π * core exciton at 284.4 eV, which attributed to the greater accessibility of the π * orbitals. The results from UPS spectra of the films showed little angular dependence and included features consistent with total density of states of graphite

Quantum information processing with superconducting qubits in a microwave field

We investigate the quantum dynamics of a Cooper-pair box with a superconducting loop in the presence of a nonclassical microwave field. We demonstrate the existence of Rabi oscillations for both single- and multi-photon processes and, moreover, we propose a new quantum computing scheme (including one-bit and conditional two-bit gates) based on Josephson qubits coupled through microwaves.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figur

Search for a strongly decaying neutral charmed pentaquark

We present a search for a charmed pentaquark decaying strongly to $D^{(*)-}p$. Finding no evidence for such a state, we set limits on the cross section times branching ratio relative to $D^{*-}$ and $D^-$ under particular assumptions about the production mechanism.Comment: To be published in Physics Letters

Neutral Higgs bosons in the MNMSSM with explicit CP violation

Within the framework of the minimal non-minimal supersymmetric standard model (MNMSSM) with tadpole terms, CP violation effects in the Higgs sector are investigated at the one-loop level, where the radiative corrections from the loops of the quark and squarks of the third generation are taken into account. Assuming that the squark masses are not degenerate, the radiative corrections due to the stop and sbottom quarks give rise to CP phases, which trigger the CP violation explicitly in the Higgs sector of the MNMSSM. The masses, the branching ratios for dominant decay channels, and the total decay widths of the five neutral Higgs bosons in the MNMSSM are calculated in the presence of the explicit CP violation. The dependence of these quantities on the CP phases is quite recognizable, for given parameter values.Comment: 25 pages, 8 figure

Syftet är att ta reda på om kommuninvånarnas förutsättningar att delta i den politiska processen förändrats i och med sammanslagningarna. I arbetet används 7 demokratiindikatorer för att kartlägga kommunernas demokratiska "klimat" och de eventuella förändringar som skedde i samband med sammanslagningarna. Indikatorerna är bl.a. förändringar i valdeltagande, i antalet förtroendeuppdrag, i social representativitet och i geografiska avstånd. Det empiriska materialet baserar sig på kommunernas val- och mötesprotokoll, verksamhetsberättelser samt annat skriftligt material om de två reformerna och som finns i Ekenäs stads arkiv. Förutom dessa har även använts intervjumaterial från Radio Vega Västnyland i Ekenäs. Baserat på det data som funnits har de två sammanslagningarna haft fler negativa än positiva effekter på invånarnas förutsättningar att vara en del av det representativa systemet i kommunen. Sambandet mellan kommunstorlek och fungerande lokal demokrati beror dock mycket på vilken form av aktivitet som granskas. Till exempel visar det empiriska materialet att ökad kommunstorlek och större invånarantal i allmänhet erbjuder bättre förutsättningar för olika politiska alternativ att uppstå samtidigt som den sociala representativiteten försämras. Genom att sätta fingret på dylika effekter kan man förhoppningsvis ta fram lösningar som motverkar de negativa effekterna
