Large Electromagnetic Activity Metamaterial Composed of Five-Segment Cranks

    Get PDF
Producción CientíficaA new chiral material composed of a two-dimensional lattice of five-segment cranks, with the same handedness is experimentally and numerically studied. The sample, formed by a single layer of such structures, exhibits huge electromagnetic activity and a negative refraction index for linearly polarized waves. Both the chirality parameter and the bandwidth with the negative refraction index are larger than those observed in chiral media composed of three-segment cranks. The material also shows pronounced electromagnetic activity (larger than 500 per wavelength). This observed behaviour is attributed to the fact that the five-segment configuration enhances the electromagnetic coupling compared with the three-segment configuration.2020-01-012020-01-01Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad and the European Commission (ERDF)(Projects TEC2014-55463-C3-1- P and TEC2014-55463-C3-3-P

In the present paper we are describing the planification of a conservation and preservation programme of the Maneto dog breed group in developing under two consecutive phases. Firstly we show the results obtained in the ethnogenetic characterization (mopho-structural and external), but also a preliminary report of the functional, genetic and environmental information collection, using a zootechnic inquiry as applications of the first phase. In the second phase we are proposing some actuation destines to the reproducers evaluation and the planification of the breeding system to develop a complete conservation programme for this breed.

X-ray amorphous glasses of composition (in equivalent percent) 15Ca:15Mg: 55Si:15Al:(100-x-y)O:xN:yF with x=0, 10, 15 and y=0, 1, 3, 5, were prepared by melting and casting. The effects of oxygen substitution by fluorine and/or nitrogen on the physical, mechanical, thermal and optical properties of the glasses have been investigated. Molar volume, fractional glass compactness, microhardness, Young's Modulus, glass-transition temperature, dilatometric-softening point and refractive index increased linearly with nitrogen substitution for oxygen, whereas molar volume and thermal expansion coefficient decreased linearly with nitrogen increase. In contrast, all properties except glass-transition temperature and dilatometric-softening point, are virtually unaffected by fluorine substitution for oxygen. Significant and linear, decreases in thermal properties occurred with increasing fluorine substitution level. All the data collected and its analysis clearly showed that the substitution effects of fluorine for oxygen on the studied properties of the glasses of the system with general formula Ca-Mg-Si-Al-O-(N)-(F) are totally independent and additive with respect to the substitution effects of nitrogen for oxygen on glass properties

Patient-reported outcomes in type 2 diabetes mellitus: Patients’ and primary care physicians’ perspectives in the Spanish health care system

Objective: Understanding patients’ and physicians’ perceptions of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) management and treatment has important implications for diabetes care, allowing the identification of clinical practice issues that could be improved, leading to patients’ better understanding of the illness and, consequently, healthier self-management behaviors. The objective of this study was to identify differences between physicians’ and T2DM patients’ perceptions related to health status, patient-reported outcomes assessments, and T2DM management and treatment, in routine clinical practice in Spain. Methods: This was an observational, cross-sectional study including 1, 012 T2DM patients and 974 physicians from 47 and 52 Spanish provinces, respectively. An electronic structured self-administered questionnaire containing 17 questions was designed aiming to address both physicians’ and patient’s perceptions on overall T2DM health status and patient-reported outcomes. Results: T2DM patients perceived a worse health status (40% reported having a “good” and 38% a “neither good nor bad” health status) compared with physicians’ perceptions (77% thought patients had a “good” health status). Most patients answered being “satisfied” or “neither satisfied nor unsatisfied” with the given information, while physicians considered that patients were “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the information for self-monitoring blood glucose and treatment administration. Fifty-seven percent of patients reported that medical recommendations were “important”, while 58% of physicians considered it as “very important”. Fifty-three percent of patients perceived that their current T2DM treatment suited their preferences “quite a lot”, and this was lower than the proportion of physicians (69%) that believed this for their patients. Additionally, a lower percentage of patients (53%) than physicians (79%) believed that their treatment improved their health-related quality of life “quite a lot”. All differences between patients and physicians were statistically significant (P<0.001). Conclusion: Patients and physicians demonstrate different views concerning all questions related to T2DM health status and diabetes management and treatment (information, recommendations, satisfaction, and preferences)

Program of assisted reproduction in the segureña sheep breed

The results of the assisted reproduction program by means of the artificial insemination using fresh semen obtained in the ram centre of the National Association of Breeders of the Segureña Sheep (ANCOS) are shown. The index of fertility obtained is slightly higher than 40 percent and the index of prolificacy over 150 percent, standing out that these results do not correspond to a experimental station or intensive herds, in spite of this they have been obtained in hard conditions and clearly extensive systems. The success in the use of this tool have contributed to the location of the Segureña scheme of selection on the top of the Spanish meat sheep breeds.

    Sustainable development city-beach in Alicante

[EN] Tourism development in recent decades has involved a large urban development in coastal areas, with different anthropogenic structural interventions on the coast such as the construction of commercial buildings and marinas, which has led to intense erosion and large imbalances in the last century. This situation also affects the city of Alicante, with the area between the port of Alicante and the Huertas Cape, one of the most depressed areas of the city, due to various actions carried out since the 70s, for anthropic example fillers for building marinas, jetties and broken in poor condition because they are made of sandstone, and a bad connection between the two parts of the city. In this work the creation of a new promenade that communicates both zones is proposed, creating new beaches eliminating anthro- pogenic fillings and the remains of breakwaters along the coast, the union of diverse marine area in one marina, and the insertion of an artificial reef multipurpose. With all this it is to improve the attraction of the area, and increase the mobility of the city on the coast.Aragonés, L.; García-Barba, J.; Villacampa, Y.; López, I.; Gómez Martín, ME.; Pagán, J. Factors Controlling Properties of Ca-Mg, Ca-Er, Ca-Nd, or Ca-Y-Modified Aluminosilicate Glasses Containing Nitrogen and Fluorine

Glasses with composition (in eq.%) (30 − x)Ca:xM:55Si:15Al:80O:15N:5F have been prepared with different levels of substitution of Ca2+ cations by Mg2+, Y3+, Er3+, or Nd3+. The properties of these glasses are examined in detail and changes observed in molar volume (MV), free volume, fractional glass compactness, Young's modulus, microhardness, glass transition temperature, and thermal expansion as a function of M content are presented. Using linear regression analysis, evidence is presented which clearly shows that these glass properties are either solely dependent on the effective cation field strength, if modifier cation valency is the same (e.g., Mg substitution for Ca), or dependent on the effective cation field strength and the number of (Si, Al) (O, N, F) tetrahedra associated with each modifier when Ca is replaced by the trivalent modifiers. Combining these correlations with those observed previously relating glass properties to N and F substitution for O, it becomes apparent that glass properties for Ca–M–Si–Al–O–N–F glasses can be described by correlations which involve independent, but additive contributions by N and F substitution levels, effective cation field strength, and the number of tetrahedra associated with each modifier ion
