Récit de vie et dessins d’arbre : une reconstruction subjective de l’événement traumatique chez une personne âgée
The aim of this article is to report a brief therapy of an elderly patient after trauma (aggression) by combining two complementary and integrative qualitative methodologies: life story (LS) and tree drawings (TD). The LS allows the individual to position him/herself subjectively in relation to his/her personal, family and social history. Whereas the TD is a graphic medium of projection, visualization, highlighting key elements of this history. The case study of Dina, 75 years old, victim of aggression (snatch robbery) with assault and battery, allows the authors to show that LS, TD and tree histories help to address individuals in all their richness, singularity and complexity by offering opportunities for reflection, awareness and decision-making whilst enhancing their resilience
Few-Particle Effects in Semiconductor Quantum Dots: Observation of Multi-Charged-Excitons
We investigate experimentally and theoretically few-particle effects in the
optical spectra of single quantum dots (QDs). Photo-depletion of the QD
together with the slow hopping transport of impurity-bound electrons back to
the QD are employed to efficiently control the number of electrons present in
the QD. By investigating structurally identical QDs, we show that the spectral
evolutions observed can be attributed to intrinsic, multi-particle-related
effects, as opposed to extrinsic QD-impurity environment-related interactions.
From our theoretical calculations we identify the distinct transitions
related to excitons and excitons charged with up to five additional electrons,

Impact of age norms and stereotypes on managers' hiring decisions of retirees
Purpose -Our study investigates the role of managers in the re-employment of early retirees and asks what the effect is of managers’ age norms and stereotypes on managers’ employment decisions.
Design/methodology/approach- A combination of a factorial study and a survey was conducted. First, information on the age norms and stereotypes was collected. Secondly, profiles of hypothetical retired job applicants were presented to the employers, who were asked to make a specific hiring decision. The information collected during both studies was combined in the analysis and multilevel models were estimated.
Findings -The results indicate that higher age norms result in a higher propensity to hire an early retiree. Stereotypes, by contrast, do not influence managers’ decisions. Early retirees’ chances for re-employment are also related to their own circumstances (physical appearance and relevant experience) and organisational forces, as they are hired when organisations face labour force shortages.
Research limitation / implications – with the use of vignettes study we deal with hypothetical hiring situation.
Originality value- Although the effect of age norms and age stereotypes has been often suggested, not much empirical evidence was presented to support this notion. Our study estimates the effect of age norms and stereotypes on hiring decision.

Star formation in the early universe: beyond the tip of the iceberg
We present late-time Hubble Space Telescope imaging of the fields of six
Swift GRBs lying at 5.0<z<9.5. Our data includes very deep observations of the
field of the most distant spectroscopically confirmed burst, GRB 090423, at
z=8.2. Using the precise positions afforded by their afterglows we can place
stringent limits on the luminosities of their host galaxies. In one case, that
of GRB 060522 at z=5.11, there is a marginal excess of flux close to the GRB
position which may be a detection of a host at a magnitude J(AB)=28.5. None of
the others are significantly detected meaning that all the hosts lie below
L\star at their respective redshifts, with star formation rates SFR<4Mo/yr in
all cases. Indeed, stacking the five fields with WFC3-IR data we conclude a
mean SFR<0.17Mo/yr per galaxy. These results support the proposition that the
bulk of star formation, and hence integrated UV luminosity, at high redshifts
arises in galaxies below the detection limits of deep-field observations.
Making the reasonable assumption that GRB rate is proportional to UV luminosity
at early times allows us to compare our limits with expectations based on
galaxy luminosity functions derived from the Hubble Ultra-Deep Field (HUDF) and
other deep fields. We infer that a luminosity function which is evolving
rapidly towards steeper faint-end slope (alpha) and decreasing characteristic
luminosity (L\star), as suggested by some other studies, is consistent with our
observations, whereas a non-evolving LF shape is ruled out at >90% confidence.
Although it is not yet possible to make stronger statements, in the future,
with larger samples and a fuller understanding of the conditions required for
GRB production, studies like this hold great potential for probing the nature
of star formation, the shape of the galaxy luminosity function, and the supply

What factors influence training opportunities for older workers? Three factorial surveys exploring the attitudes of HR professionals
The core research questions addressed in this paper are: what factors influence HR professionals in deciding whether to approve training proposals for older workers? What kind of training are they more likely to recommend for older employees and in which organizational contexts? We administered three factorial surveys to 66 HR professionals in Italy. Participants made specific training decisions based on profiles of hypothetical older workers. Multilevel analyses indicated that access to training decreases strongly with age, while highly-skilled older employees with low absenteeism rates are more likely to enjoy training opportunities. In addition, older workers displaying positive performance are more likely to receive training than older workers who perform poorly, suggesting that training late in working life may serve as a reward for good performance rather than as a means of enhancing productivity. The older the HR professional evaluating training proposals, the higher the probability that older workers will be recommended for training.

Knowledge-based energy functions for computational studies of proteins
This chapter discusses theoretical framework and methods for developing
knowledge-based potential functions essential for protein structure prediction,
protein-protein interaction, and protein sequence design. We discuss in some
details about the Miyazawa-Jernigan contact statistical potential,
distance-dependent statistical potentials, as well as geometric statistical
potentials. We also describe a geometric model for developing both linear and
non-linear potential functions by optimization. Applications of knowledge-based
potential functions in protein-decoy discrimination, in protein-protein
interactions, and in protein design are then described. Several issues of

A multi-center study on the attitudes of Malaysian emergency health care staff towards allowing family presence during resuscitation of adult patients
BACKGROUND
The practice of allowing family members to witness on-going active resuscitation has been gaining ground in many developed countries since it was first introduced in the early 1990s. In many Asian countries, the acceptability of this practice has not been well studied.
AIM
We conducted a multi-center questionnaire study to determine the attitudes of health care professionals in Malaysia towards family presence to witness ongoing medical procedures during resuscitation.
METHODS
Using a bilingual questionnaire (in Malay and English language), we asked our respondents about their attitudes towards allowing family presence (FP) as well as their actual experience of requests from families to be allowed to witness resuscitations. Multiple logistic regression was used to analyze the association between the many variables and a positive attitude towards FP.
RESULTS
Out of 300 health care professionals who received forms, 270 responded (a 90% response rate). Generally only 15.8% of our respondents agreed to allow relatives to witness resuscitations, although more than twice the number (38.5%) agreed that relatives do have a right to be around during resuscitation. Health care providers are significantly more likely to allow FP if the procedures are perceived as likely to be successful (e.g., intravenous cannulation and blood taking as compared to chest tube insertion). Doctors were more than twice as likely as paramedics to agree to FP (p-value = 0.002). This is probably due to the Malaysian work culture in our health care systems in which paramedics usually adopt a 'follow-the-leader' attitude in their daily practice.
CONCLUSION
The concept of allowing FP is not well accepted among our Malaysian health care providers
Shedding Light on the Galaxy Luminosity Function
From as early as the 1930s, astronomers have tried to quantify the
statistical nature of the evolution and large-scale structure of galaxies by
studying their luminosity distribution as a function of redshift - known as the
galaxy luminosity function (LF). Accurately constructing the LF remains a
popular and yet tricky pursuit in modern observational cosmology where the
presence of observational selection effects due to e.g. detection thresholds in
apparent magnitude, colour, surface brightness or some combination thereof can
render any given galaxy survey incomplete and thus introduce bias into the LF.
Over the last seventy years there have been numerous sophisticated
statistical approaches devised to tackle these issues; all have advantages --
but not one is perfect. This review takes a broad historical look at the key
statistical tools that have been developed over this period, discussing their
relative merits and highlighting any significant extensions and modifications.
In addition, the more generalised methods that have emerged within the last few
years are examined. These methods propose a more rigorous statistical framework
within which to determine the LF compared to some of the more traditional
methods. I also look at how photometric redshift estimations are being
incorporated into the LF methodology as well as considering the construction of
bivariate LFs. Finally, I review the ongoing development of completeness
estimators which test some of the fundamental assumptions going into LF
estimators and can be powerful probes of any residual systematic effects
