Conjoint Analysis of Breaded Catfish Nuggets: Consumer Preferences for Price, Product Color, Cooking Method and Country of Origin

A new product, marinated, breaded catfish nuggets, was developed. This conjoint study was designed to evaluate consumers’ preferences for certain attributes of the nuggets. Dust in the bright supernova remnant N49 in the LMC

We investigate the dust associated with the supernova remnant (SNR) N49 in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC) as observed with the Herschel Space Observatory. N49 is unusually bright because of an interaction with a molecular cloud along its eastern edge. We have used PACS and SPIRE to measure the far IR flux densities of the entire SNR and of a bright region on the eastern edge of the SNR where the SNR shock is encountering the molecular cloud. Using these fluxes supplemented with archival data at shorter wavelengths, we estimate the dust mass associated with N49 to be about 10 Msun. The bulk of the dust in our simple two-component model has a temperature of 20-30 K, similar to that of nearby molecular clouds. Unfortunately, as a result of the limited angular resolution of Herschel at the wavelengths sampled with SPIRE, the uncertainties are fairly large. Assuming this estimate of the dust mass associated with the SNR is approximately correct, it is probable that most of the dust in the SNR arises from regions where the shock speed is too low to produce significant X-ray emission. The total amount of warm 50-60 K dust is ~0.1 or 0.4 Msun, depending on whether the dust is modeled in terms of carbonaceous or silicate grains. Diffusive Charge Transport in Graphene on SiO2

We review our recent work on the physical mechanisms limiting the mobility of graphene on SiO2. We have used intentional addition of charged scattering impurities and systematic variation of the dielectric environment to differentiate the effects of charged impurities and short-range scatterers. The results show that charged impurities indeed lead to a conductivity linear in density in graphene, with a scattering magnitude that agrees quantitatively with theoretical estimates [1]; increased dielectric screening reduces scattering from charged impurities, but increases scattering from short-range scatterers [2]. We evaluate the effects of the corrugations (ripples) of graphene on SiO2 on transport by measuring the height-height correlation function. The results show that the corrugations cannot mimic long-range (charged impurity) scattering effects, and have too small an amplitude-to-wavelength ratio to significantly affect the observed mobility via short-range scattering [3, 4]. Temperature-dependent measurements show that longitudinal acoustic phonons in graphene produce a resistivity linear in temperature and independent of carrier density [5]; at higher temperatures, polar optical phonons of the SiO2 substrate give rise to an activated, carrier density-dependent resistivity [5]. The effectiveness of prehabilitation interventions on biopsychosocial and service outcomes pre and post upper gastrointestinal surgery : a systematic review

Purpose. This review synthesised the evidence for the effect of prehabilitation interventions on biopsychosocial and service outcomes. Materials and Methods. A systematic review was conducted. 10 databases were searched to December 2023. Prospective experimental studies exploring prehabilitation interventions in adults undergoing upper gastrointestinal surgery were included. Prehabilitation was any preoperative intervention to improve physical or psychological outcomes. Included studies required a comparator group or alternative preoperative intervention as well as baseline, presurgical and postoperative assessment points. Study quality was assessed using the Cochrane risk of bias tool (v.2). Data synthesis was narrative (SWiM guidance). Results. 6028 studies were screened, with 25 studies included. Prehabilitation interventions were: inspiratory muscle training (five studies n = 450); exercise (nine studies n = 683); psychological (one study n = 400); and nutritional (ten studies n = 487). High quality studies showed preoperative improvements in impairments directly targeted by the interventions. Generally, these did not translate into functional or postoperative improvements, but multimodal interventions were more promising. Conclusion. Current evidence supports prehabilitation as safe to preserve or improve preoperative function. Heterogeneity in outcomes and variable study quality means definitive conclusions regarding interventions are not yet possible, limiting implementation. Agreement of clinical outcomes and cost effectiveness evaluation is required
