Marian Smoluchowski: A story behind one photograph

We discuss the photograph procured from the archives of the V. Stefanyk Lviv National Scientific Library of Ukraine dated by 1904 which shows Marian Smoluchowski together with professors and graduate students of the Philosophy department of the Lviv University. The personalia includes both the professors and the graduates depicted on the photograph with the emphasis on the graduates as being much less known and studied. The photograph originates from the collection of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, therefore a brief historical background on the activities of physicists in this society around that period of time is provided as well.Comment: 8 pages, 1 photograp

In the article the key issues of strategic management of medium and large businesses in Ukraine. Typical methodological errors of strategic management indicated in the article. State of strategic planning in Ukraine is quite low for a number of barriers and error management, discrepancy management philosophy demands of today's market environment, and a lack of relevant experience in leadership. Nonlinear Parabolic Variational Inequalities with Variable Time-Delay in Time Unbounded Domains

We research the well-posedness of the problem without initial condition for nonlinear parabolic variational inequalities with variable time-delay. To justify our results, we impose some assumptions on the solution behavior and growth of the data-in as time variable tends to −∞. Also, we obtain estimates for weak solutions of this problem

The article deals with the perspective direction of analysis of the modular functioning of the information medical system. An example of a basic approach in identifying internal mechanisms for streamlining the multilevel information structure is the Ukrainian medical system, known as «EMSIMED». The approach to finding a clear modular playback algorithm allows to reasonably disclosing the process of automated integration at the scientific and technological level.В статье рассматривается перспективное направление анализа модульного функционирования информационной медицинской системы. Примером выведения базового пути при определении внутренних механизмов упорядочивания многоуровневой информационной структуры является украинская медицинская система «ЭМСИМЕД». Multipurpose Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Integrated Navigation System Development and Testing

The paper presents development of prototype of integrated inertial-satellite navigation system that contains 3-axis accelerometers, gyros, magnetometers, barometric altimeter and GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) receiver.Navigation system testing procedure by means of flight at airdrome at small remotely piloted aircraft system (RPAS) is described, and data processing details with results are submitted. These results received from the data postprocessing had approved the efficiency of integrated navigation system functioning in normal navigation mode, i.e. during availability of GNSS measurements. It has been shown as well that after approximately 10 s of autonomous MEMS inertial navigation system (INS) functioning accuracy of velocity and position calculation degrades significantly

Investigation of the residual tropospheric error influence on the coordinate determination accuracy in a satellite landing system

This paper presents the results of the investigation of the residual tropospheric error influence on coordinate determination in a GNSS landing system. The ICAO recommended methodology for residual tropospheric error calculation is taken as a basis for the present research. Special attention is paid to the troposphere refractivity index and troposphere scale height, which are derived from the well-known troposphere refraction MOPS model. A computer simulation is performed for them for the whole year and the northern hemisphere latitudes. Hardware in the loop simulation has been performed to complement the computer simulation study and investigate the situation with the residual tropospheric error calculation for the experimental GNSS satellites configuration. The experimental measurement session with a duration of about 9 hours is recorded to obtain the configuration of real navigation satellites The residual tropospheric error in meters is calculated for each navigation satellite visible during the experiment. The authors investigate the residual tropospheric error influence on the accuracy of the coordinates determined in the GNSS landing system

RPAS communication channels based on WCDMA 3GPP standard

First built models of Remotely Piloted Air System (RPAS) communication channels based on Wideband Code Division Multiple Access (WCDMA) 3GPP Standard were designed. Base Station (BS) transmission within the Radio Line of Sight (RLoS) and through the satellite using Beyond Radio Line of Sight (BRLoS) was considered. The dependencies of the Bit Error Rate (BER) on the signal-noise ratio for different RPAS velocities and WCDMA сhannel models were obtained. The dependences of the BER on the signal-noise ratio for different levels of satellite transponder nonlinearity were studied. The dependence of the BER on the BS antenna diameter in case of the transponder nonlinearity was analysed. The dependencies for satellite channel characteristics, first obtained taking into account the motion of the RPAS, make it possible to predict the behavior of the communication system in critical conditions

СУЧАСНІ ТЕХНОЛОГІЇ ДИСТАНЦІЙНОГО НАВЧАННЯ В ПІСЛЯДИПЛОМНІЙ ОСВІТІ ЛІКАРІВ

Methods of distant education (DE) allow optimizing usage of human and financial resources. T. B. Andreazzi et al. (2011) underline importance of DE in countries with big territory and uneven division of resources and population. Usage of modern technologies of DE (videoconference, webinar, web-platform for learning, specialized website, mailing list, multimedia educative-controlling system, network textbook) allows students not only to get information, but also to ask questions and receive answer in real time mode. Usage of computerized methods of DE is important for modern postgraduate education of doctors and needs wider implementation.Застосування засобів дистанційного навчання (ДН) дозволяє оптимізувати використання людських та фінансових ресурсів. T. B. Andreazzi et al. (2011) підкреслюють важливість ДН у країнах, що мають велику територію і нерівномірний розподіл ресурсів та популяції. Використання сучасних технологій ДН (відеоконференція, вебінар, веб-платформа для навчання, спеціалізований сайт, електронна розсилка, мультимедійна навчально-контролююча система, мережевий електронний підручник) дозволяє слухачам не тільки отримати інформацію, але й задати питання та почути відповідь у режимі реального часу. Застосування комп’ютеризованих методів ДН є необхідним для сучасної післядипломної освіти лікарів та потребує ширшого впровадження.
