    Effect of root canal irrigant (sodium hypochlorite & saline) delivery at different temperatures and durations on pre-load and cyclic-loading surface-strain of anatomically different premolars

    Aim: To evaluate the effect of NaOCl (5%) and saline (control) irrigant delivery at different temperatures and durations on pre-load and cyclic-loading tooth-surface-strain (TSS) on anatomically different premolars. Methodology: Single-rooted premolars (n = 36), root-canal-prepared in standard manner, were randomly allocated to six irrigation groups: (A1) NaOCl-21 °C; (A2) NaOCl-60 °C; (A3) saline-21 °C then NaOCl-21 °C; (A4) saline-60 °C then NaOCl-21 °C; (A5) saline-21 °C then NaOCl-60 °C; (A6) saline-60 °C then NaOCl-60 °C. A1-2 received nine 10-min irrigation periods (IP) with NaOCl; A3-6 received nine 10-min IP with saline, followed by 9 IP with NaOCl at different temperature combinations. Premolars (n = 56) with single, fused or double roots prepared by standard protocol, were stratified and randomly allocated to: (B1) saline-21 °C; (B2) saline-80 °C; (B3) NaOCl-21 °C; (B4) NaOCl-80 °C. TSS (μє) was recorded pre-irrigation, post-irrigation and pre-load for each IP and during cyclic loading 2 min after each IP, over 30–274 min, using strain-gauges. Generalised linear mixed models were used for analysis. Results: Baseline TSS in double-rooted premolars was significantly (p=0.001) lower than in single/fused-rooted-premolars; and affected by mesial-wall-thickness (p=0.005). There was significant increase in loading-TSS (μє) after NaOCl-21 °C irrigation (p=0.01) but decrease after NaOCl-60 °C irrigation (p=0.001). TSS also increased significantly (p = 0.005) after Saline-80 °C irrigation. Pre-load “strain-shift” was noted only upon first saline delivery but every-time with NaOCl. Strain-shift negatively influenced loading-TSS after saline or NaOCl irrigation (A3-6) but was only significant for saline-21 °C. Conclusions: Tooth anatomy significantly affected its strain characteristics, exhibiting limits within which strain changes occurred. Intra-canal introduction of saline or NaOCl caused non-random strain shifts without loading. Irrigation with NaOCl-21 °C increased loading tooth strain, as did saline-80 °C or NaOCl-80 °C but NaOCl-60 °C decreased it.     Effects of nomadic grazing system and indoor concentrate feeding systems on performance, behavior, blood parameters, and meat quality of finishing lambs

    The objective of the study was to evaluate the effects of three production systems on growth performance, behavior, blood parameters, carcass characteristics, and meat quality. A total of 30 lambs (n = 10 lambs/treatment) were randomly assigned to three production systems that included rotational grazing (NG) and two different levels of concentrate (CON), one with medium (roughage/concentrate ratio 50:50% based on DM, MC) and one with high concentrate (roughage/concentrate ratio 30:70% based on DM, HC) during the 90-day fattening period. At the start of the experiment, all lambs averaged 90 ± 4 days of age (mean ± SD) and were slaughtered at an average of 180 ± 3 days (mean ± SD). CON-fed lambs had higher average daily gain and loin thickness than NG-fed lambs. The NG lambs spent more time eating, drinking, and standing, but less time resting and rumination than the CON-fed lambs. In addition, plasma lipid, β-hydroxybutyrate, and urea levels were higher, while phosphorus levels were lower in NG-fed lambs than in CON-fed lambs. CON-fed lambs had better carcass yield, but gastrointestinal tract and rumen weights were lower than NG lambs. CON-fed lambs had higher pH values 0 h post mortem than the NG lambs; however, there was no effect of treatment on pH 24 h post mortem. The post-mortem color of the LD muscle of NG lambs had a higher lightness and yellowness index and a lower redness index than that of the LD muscle of CON-fed lambs. The results of this study showed that lambs fed CON had better carcass yield than lambs fed NG, although feed intake, feed conversion ratio (FCR), growth performance, carcass yield, and meat quality of lambs fed MC and HC were similar.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Harmful algal blooms resulting in red discoloration of coastal waters in the Persian Gulf, Iran were first observed in January 2007. The species responsible for the bloom, which was identified as Cochlodinium polykrikoides, coincided with massive aquatic organisms’ mortalities in the Persian Gulf. In order to provide optimum growth and bloom forming, C. polykrikoides cells were sampled during the bloom conditions in the coastal waters of Persian Gulf. After adaptation in filtered seawater, they isolated by positive phototropism characteristic of this species to light. They were grown in modified media culture at different salinity (30, 32 and 35ppt), temperature (20, 23, 26 and 28~’C) and intensity (35, 70 and 90 ~kmol m-2s- 1). The results of the present study clearly showed that the highest alga biomass and growth rate was obtained following culture under the 32ppt salinity, 26~’C temperature, and under a 12h light:12h dark photoperiod regime at a light intensity of 90~kmol m-2s-1provided by cool white fluorescent tubes. Maximum cell density and growth rate of C. polykrikoides in a 60 liter tank for 20 days reached to 32×106 cell L−1 and 0.28 day−1, respectively. However, the mean obtained cell density of C. polykrikoides in temperature regimes 20, 23, 26 and 28~’C (under salinity of 32ppt, and 90~kmol m-2s-1irradiance) were 2730, 9360, 28240 and 18080 cell ml−1, respectively.     Evaluation of Safety and Efficacy of ReHub in Patients Who Underwent Primary Total Knee Arthroplasty: Study Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial

    Background: Total Knee Arthroplasty (TKA) is an intervention that can significantly improve the quality of life of patients with advanced knee osteoarthritis. Early start of rehabilitation and its continuation at home once the patient is discharged are key factors for the success of the process.This study aims to assess the effectiveness of a home-based telerehabilitation solution (ReHub) on improving functional capacity and clinical outcomes for patients who underwent TKA. Methods/design: The study is a randomized, open-label with blinded outcome assessor, parallel assignment clinical trial with a sample size of 52 patients that is conducted according to the SPIRIT recommendations. After the TKA intervention, the patients are randomly allocated to the control group or the experimental group with a 1:1 ratio. Both groups follow a Fast Track recovery protocol which includes discharge after 2-3 days from surgery, a daily plan of 5 exercises for autonomous rehabilitation and domiciliary visits by a physiotherapist starting approximately 2 weeks after surgery. The experimental group uses the sensor-based telerehabilitation system ReHub to perform the exercises. The primary outcome measure is the range of motion of the knee. Secondary outcomes include physical performance, quality of life, pain intensity, muscle strength, treatment adherence and satisfaction with the ReHub system. The outcomes assessment is performed at hospital discharge (baseline), at stitch removal (2 weeks after baseline) and 2 weeks after stitch removal (4 weeks after baseline).The study conforms to the guidelines of the Declaration of Helsinki and was approved by the hospital's ethics committee. Discussion: The study will address an important gap in the evidence base by reporting the effectiveness of an affordable and low-cost home-based telerehabilitation solution in patients who underwent TKA. Ethics and dissemination: The study was approved by the hospital's ethics committee ("Comité Ético de Investigación Clínica del HCB", reg. HCB/2019/0571). The trial was registred at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04155957). The results of this study will be published in peer-reviewed journals as well as national and international conferences. Trial registration: NCT04155957 (ClinicalTrials.gov).     Cosmological MHD simulations of cluster formation with anisotropic thermal conduction

    (abridged) The ICM has been suggested to be buoyantly unstable in the presence of magnetic field and anisotropic thermal conduction. We perform first cosmological simulations of galaxy cluster formation that simultaneously include magnetic fields, radiative cooling and anisotropic thermal conduction. In isolated and idealized cluster models, the magnetothermal instability (MTI) tends to reorient the magnetic fields radially. Using cosmological simulations of the Santa Barbara cluster we detect radial bias in the velocity and magnetic fields. Such radial bias is consistent with either the inhomogeneous radial gas flows due to substructures or residual MTI-driven field rearangements that are expected even in the presence of turbulence. Although disentangling the two scenarios is challenging, we do not detect excess bias in the runs that include anisotropic thermal conduction. The anisotropy effect is potentially detectable via radio polarization measurements with LOFAR and SKA and future X-ray spectroscopic studies with the IXO. We demonstrate that radiative cooling boosts the amplification of the magnetic field by about two orders of magnitude beyond what is expected in the non-radiative cases. At z=0 the field is amplified by a factor of about 10^6 compared to the uniform magnetic field evolved due to the universal expansion alone. Interestingly, the runs that include both radiative cooling and anisotropic thermal conduction exhibit stronger magnetic field amplification than purely radiative runs at the off-center locations. In these runs, shallow temperature gradients away from the cluster center make the ICM neutrally buoyant. The ICM is more easily mixed in these regions and the winding up of the frozen-in magnetic field is more efficient resulting in stronger magnetic field amplification.Comment: submitted to ApJ, higher resolution figures available at: http://www.astro.lsa.umich.edu/~mateuszr

    Zonal flows and long-distance correlations during the formation of the edge shear layer in the TJ-II stellarator

    A theoretical interpretation is given for the observed long-distance correlations in potential fluctuations in TJ-II. The value of the correlation increases above the critical point of the transition for the emergence of the plasma edge shear flow layer. Mean (i.e. surface averaged, zero-frequency) sheared flows cannot account for the experimental results. A model consisting of four envelope equations for the fluctuation level, the mean flow shear, the zonal flow amplitude shear, and the averaged pressure gradient is proposed. It is shown that the presence of zonal flows is essential to reproduce the main features of the experimental observations.Comment: 19 pages, 7 figure
