    Autoscaling Method for Docker Swarm Towards Bursty Workload

    The autoscaling mechanism of cloud computing can automatically adjust computing resources according to user needs, improve quality of service (QoS) and avoid over-provision. However, the traditional autoscaling methods suffer from oscillation and degradation of QoS when dealing with burstiness. Therefore, the autoscaling algorithm should consider the effect of bursty workloads. In this paper, we propose a novel AmRP (an autoscaling method that combines reactive and proactive mechanisms) that uses proactive scaling to launch some containers in advance, and then the reactive module performs vertical scaling based on existing containers to increase resources rapidly. Our method also integrates burst detection to alleviate the oscillation of the scaling algorithm and improve the QoS. Finally, we evaluated our approach with state-of-the-art baseline scaling methods under different workloads in a Docker Swarm cluster. Compared with the baseline methods, the experimental results show that AmRP has fewer SLA violations when dealing with bursty workloads, and its resource cost is also lower

    Estimation of the flux at 1450MHz of OB stars for FAST and SKA

    Radio observation is crucial to understanding the wind mechanism of OB stars but very scarce. This work estimates the flux at 1450MHz (S1.4GHzS_{\rm 1.4GHz}) of about 5,000 OB stars identified by the LAMOST spectroscopic survey and confirmed by the Gaia astrometric as well as astrophysical measurements. The calculation is performed under the free-free emission mechanism for wind with the mass loss rate derived from stellar parameters. The estimated S1.4GHzS_{\rm 1.4GHz} distributes from 101110^{-11}Jy to 10310^{-3}Jy with the peak at about 10810^{-8}Jy. This implies that the complete SKA-II can detect more than half of them, and some tens of objects are detectable by FAST without considering source confusion. An array of FAST would increase the detectable sample by two orders of magnitude.Comment: 15 pages. 8 figure

    Research hotspots and trends of fresh e-commerce in China: A knowledge mapping analysis based on bibliometrics

    The fresh e-commerce industry has seen a sudden and substantial rise since the outbreak of COVID-19. The rapid development of this industry calls for a comprehensive and systematic review of its research status, hotspots and future trends, which will have significant implications for researchers in related fields. This paper first conducts a current situation analysis of the core literature on fresh e-commerce retrieved from four databases – CNKI, CSSCI, Wanfang and VIP – to categorize the research status of fresh e-commerce in three dimensions: the year of publication, article sources, and distribution of subjects. CiteSpace is then used to perform a bibliometric analysis of the data and to create visualized knowledge maps. The results show that the research on fresh e-commerce can be divided into three stages: rapid development (2012-2015), exploration and transformation (2016-2019), maturity and upgrade (2020-present). At each stage, the research evolves toward diversity and maturity with policy developments and changes in the external environment. Cold chain logistics, business models, freshness-keeping of products and e-commerce are ongoing research hotspots in fresh produce e-commerce, while later studies focus more on the transformation and upgrade of products, logistics, distribution and platforms to better serve consumers’ consumption habits and environmental requirements. This study provides valuable insights for researchers and enterprises who are engaged in the industry and for those who are interested in the development of fresh e-commerce in China

    Optimizing Video Streaming in Dynamic Networks : An Intelligent Adaptive Bitrate Solution Considering Scene Intricacy and Data Budget

    Adaptive Bitrate (ABR) algorithms have become increasingly important for delivering high-quality video content over fluctuating networks. Considering the complexity of video scenes, video chunks can be separated into two categories: those with intricate scenes and those with simple scenes. In practice, it has been observed that improving the quality of intricate chunks yields more substantial improvements in Quality of Experience (QoE) compared with focusing solely on simple chunks. However, the current ABR schemes either treat all chunks equally or rely on fixed linear-based reward functions, which limits their ability to meet real-world requirements. To tackle these limitations, this paper introduces a novel ABR approach called CAST (Complex-scene Aware bitrate algorithm via Self-play reinforcemenT learning), which considers the scene complexity and formulates the bitrate adaptation task as an explicit objective. Leveraging the power of parallel computing with multiple agents, CAST trains a neural network to achieve superior video playback quality for intricate scenes while minimizing playback freezing time. Moreover, we also introduce a new variant of our proposed approach called CAST-DU, to address the critical issue of efficiently managing users' limited cellular data budgets while ensuring a satisfactory viewing experience. Furthermore, we present CAST-Live, tailored for live streaming scenarios with constrained playback buffers and considerations for energy costs. Extensive trace-driven evaluations and subjective tests demonstrate that CAST, CAST-DU, and CAST-Live outperform existing off-the-shelf schemes, delivering a superior video streaming experience over fluctuating networks while efficiently utilizing data resources. Moreover, CAST-Live demonstrates effectiveness even under limited buffer size constraints while incurring minimal energy costs

    RING finger 138 deregulation distorts NF-кB signaling and facilities colitis switch to aggressive malignancy

    Prolonged activation of nuclear factor (NF)-кB signaling significantly contributes to the development of colorectal cancer (CRC). New therapeutic opportunities are emerging from targeting this distorted cell signaling transduction. Here, we discovered the critical role of RING finger 138 (RNF138) in CRC tumorigenesis through regulating the NF-кB signaling, which is independent of its Ubiquitin-E3 ligase activity involved in DNA damage response. RNF138(−/−) mice were hyper-susceptible to the switch from colitis to aggressive malignancy, which coincided with sustained aberrant NF-кB signaling in the colonic cells. Furthermore, RNF138 suppresses the activation of NF-кB signaling pathway through preventing the translocation of NIK and IKK-Beta Binding Protein (NIBP) to the cytoplasm, which requires the ubiquitin interaction motif (UIM) domain. More importantly, we uncovered a significant correlation between poor prognosis and the downregulation of RNF138 associated with reinforced NF-кB signaling in clinical settings, raising the possibility of RNF138 dysregulation as an indicator for the therapeutic intervention targeting NF-кB signaling. Using the xenograft models built upon either RNF138-dificient CRC cells or the cells derived from the RNF138-dysregulated CRC patients, we demonstrated that the inhibition of NF-кB signaling effectively hampered tumor growth. Overall, our work defined the pathogenic role of aberrant NF-кB signaling due to RNF138 downregulation in the cascade events from the colitis switch to colonic neoplastic transformation and progression, and also highlights the possibility of targeting the NF-кB signaling in treating specific subtypes of CRC indicated by RNF138-ablation

    EUD-MARS: End-User Development of Model-Driven Adaptive Robotics Software Systems

    Empowering end-users to program robots is becoming more significant. Introducing software engineering principles into end-user programming could improve the quality of the developed software applications. For example, model-driven development improves technology independence and adaptive systems act upon changes in their context of use. However, end-users need to apply such principles in a non-daunting manner and without incurring a steep learning curve. This paper presents EUD-MARS that aims to provide end-users with a simple approach for developing model-driven adaptive robotics software. End-users include people like hobbyists and students who are not professional programmers but are interested in programming robots. EUD-MARS supports robots like hobby drones and educational humanoids that are available for end-users. It offers a tool for software developers and another one for end-users. We evaluated EUD-MARS from three perspectives. First, we used EUD-MARS to program different types of robots and assessed its visual programming language against existing design principles. Second, we asked software developers to use EUD-MARS to configure robots and obtained their feedback on strengths and points for improvement. Third, we observed how end-users explain and develop EUD-MARS programs, and obtained their feedback mainly on understandability, ease of programming, and desirability. These evaluations yielded positive indications of EUD-MARS

    Studies of new Higgs boson interactions through nonresonant HH production in the b¯bγγ fnal state in pp collisions at √s = 13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

    A search for nonresonant Higgs boson pair production in the b ¯bγγ fnal state is performed using 140 fb−1 of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. This analysis supersedes and expands upon the previous nonresonant ATLAS results in this fnal state based on the same data sample. The analysis strategy is optimised to probe anomalous values not only of the Higgs (H) boson self-coupling modifer κλ but also of the quartic HHV V (V = W, Z) coupling modifer κ2V . No signifcant excess above the expected background from Standard Model processes is observed. An observed upper limit µHH < 4.0 is set at 95% confdence level on the Higgs boson pair production cross-section normalised to its Standard Model prediction. The 95% confdence intervals for the coupling modifers are −1.4 < κλ < 6.9 and −0.5 < κ2V < 2.7, assuming all other Higgs boson couplings except the one under study are fxed to the Standard Model predictions. The results are interpreted in the Standard Model efective feld theory and Higgs efective feld theory frameworks in terms of constraints on the couplings of anomalous Higgs boson (self-)interactions

    Model-independent search for the presence of new physics in events including H → γγ with s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV pp data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC

    Abstract A model-independent search for new physics leading to final states containing a Higgs boson, with a mass of 125.09 GeV, decaying to a pair of photons is performed with 139 fb−1 of s s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV pp collision data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. This search examines 22 final states categorized by the objects that are produced in association with the Higgs boson. These objects include isolated electrons or muons, hadronically decaying τ-leptons, additional photons, missing transverse momentum, and hadronic jets, as well as jets that are tagged as containing a b-hadron. No significant excesses above Standard Model expectations are observed and limits on the production cross section at 95% confidence level are set. Detector efficiencies are reported for all 22 signal regions, which can be used to convert detector-level cross-section limits reported in this paper to particle-level cross-section constraints

    Searches for lepton-flavour-violating decays of the Higgs boson into eτ and μτ in \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector

    Abstract This paper presents direct searches for lepton flavour violation in Higgs boson decays, H → eτ and H → μτ, performed using data collected with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The searches are based on a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy s s \sqrt{s} = 13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 fb−1. Leptonic (τ → ℓνℓντ) and hadronic (τ → hadrons ντ) decays of the τ-lepton are considered. Two background estimation techniques are employed: the MC-template method, based on data-corrected simulation samples, and the Symmetry method, based on exploiting the symmetry between electrons and muons in the Standard Model backgrounds. No significant excess of events is observed and the results are interpreted as upper limits on lepton-flavour-violating branching ratios of the Higgs boson. The observed (expected) upper limits set on the branching ratios at 95% confidence level, B B \mathcal{B} (H → eτ) < 0.20% (0.12%) and B B \mathcal{B} (H → μτ ) < 0.18% (0.09%), are obtained with the MC-template method from a simultaneous measurement of potential H → eτ and H → μτ signals. The best-fit branching ratio difference, B B \mathcal{B} (H → μτ) → B B \mathcal{B} (H → eτ), measured with the Symmetry method in the channel where the τ-lepton decays to leptons, is (0.25 ± 0.10)%, compatible with a value of zero within 2.5σ
