Access Control and Retrieval Optimization Functions of the Supervisor for an Extended Data Management Facility

    Get PDF
The purpose of the Supervisor in an Extended Data Management Facility (EDMF) is to direct the Facility\u27s handling of a user\u27s request for service. The Supervisor fulfills its task through the use of five main functions: Access Control, Retrieval Initialization, File Searching, Record Validating and Record Formatting. The major and most important component of the Retrieval Initialization phase is the Retrieval Optimization subfunction. This report is concerned mainly with the design and implementation of the Access Control and Retrieval Optimization functions. Macro instructions are the mechanism through which a user\u27s program can call upon the ECMF. The Authority Item check is the EDMF\u27s security control over file access while the Prime Keyword Search is the method used to optimize the retrieval strategy. The Authority Item check and the Prime Keyword Search are two of the major concepts of the Extended Data Management Facility

In this article I shall examine the presence of translations in two rebel movements which preceded the independence of Brazil. The Minas Conspiracy and the Bahia Conspiracy, two of the most important protest movements in the Brazilian colonial period, contemporary with the American and French Revolutions, in addition to reflecting the dissatisfaction with local conditions and pointing to the collapse of the old order, dialogued with ideas that circulated internationally. An examination of the libraries of the period shows the importance of the revolutionary ideas.

The emergence of the global debt society: governmentality and profit extraction through fabricated abundance and imposed scarcity

As a result of the financialization of household and national economies, indebtedness has become a system of domination shaping the making of contemporary subjects. Th is sort of governmentality through debt is a multifaceted phenomenon affecting people's economic and political behavior in both the North and the South. Disguised and legitimized by the moral obligation to repay debts, and by promises of upward social mobility (for the working classes in the North) and of development (for the population of the Global South), indebtedness disciplines households and neutralizes political agency under finance capitalism, as our ethnographic examples on the mortgage crisis in Spain and on microfinance in Peru reveal

Seroprevalence of hepatitis E virus (HEV) in a general adult population in Northern Norway: the Tromsø study

This is a post-peer-review, pre-copyedit version of an article published in Medical Microbiology and Immunology. The final authenticated version is available online at: https://doi.org/10.1007/s00430-019-00599-5. Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a major cause of acute viral hepatitis in many parts of the world but only a few cases have been diagnosed in Norway. To investigate the HEV exposure rate in a presumed low-risk area, we have conducted a population-based study of anti-HEV IgG seroprevalence in Northern Norway. A total of 1800 serum samples from 900 women and 900 men, age 40–79 years, were randomly selected from the 21,083 participants in the 7th Tromsø Study, representing the 32,591 inhabitants of the Tromsø municipality that were ≥ 40 years. All samples were analyzed by ELISA-1 (recomWell HEV IgG). Samples testing positive or borderline, as well as a 1.5-fold excess of negative samples, were retested by ELISA-2 (DiaPro HEV IgG). If still borderline or a result discordant from ELISA-1, the sample was retested by ELISA-3 (Wantai HEV IgG) and strip-immunoassay (recomLine HEV IgG). Anti-HEV IgG was detected in 205 individuals (11.4%), yielding an estimated seroprevalence of 10.4% in the age-matched population of Tromsø. Using logistic regression analysis followed by multivariable backward elimination analysis, increasing age (OR 1.036 per year; p p < 0.001) were found as potential risk factors, whereas travel abroad or eating of red meat were not. Our results indicate that HEV-infection is common in Northern Norway and suggest that HEV testing should be included in the evaluation of elevated liver enzymes
