    This study appears of the major volatile compounds in the essential oil of myrtle leaves because of its significant medical and economic benefits. The essential oil composition of Myrtus communis leaves during its flowering stage was determined. six volatile compounds were identified in leaves essential oils, α-Pinene 308 µg/ml, linalool (23.83 µg/ml), Eucalyptol or 1,8-cineole (41.46 µg/ml), Limonene (45.22 µg/ml), α-terpineol (41.73 µg/ml), Geranyl acetate (18.28 µg/ml) were the main monoterpene compounds. α-Pinene was Represents the bulk of the other compounds in the myrtle leave Keywords: Myrtus communis L., myrtle, flowering stage, essential oil, chemical compounds

    Prevalence of hepatitis G virus among hemodialysis and kidney transplant patients in Khuzestan Province, Iran

    Background: Hepatitis G virus (HGV) is a member of Flaviviridae. Prevalence of HGV in healthy people is very low, but this virus is more prevalent in patients with hepatitis. Besides, relative frequency of HGV in patients undergoing hemodialysis, and kidney recipients is very high. The role of HGV in pathogenesis is not clear. Since this virus cannot be cultivated, molecular techniques such as Revers Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) is applied to detect HGV. Objectives: The current study aimed to investigate the prevalence of HGV using determination of E2, viral envelope antigen, antibodies and the RNA by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) and RT-PCR techniques. The rational of the study was to determine the prevalence of HGV in patients undergoing hemodialysis and kidney transplantation in Khuzestan province, Iran. Patients and Methods: Five hundred and sixteen serum samples of the patients undergoing hemodialysis and kidney transplantation from various cities of Khuzestan province were collected. Anti-hepatitis G E2 antibodies were investigated by ELISA method. RNAs were extracted from serums and Hepatitis G RNA was detected by RT-PCR. Results: Of the 516 samples, 38 (7.36) specimens were positive for anti-HGV by ELISA. All of these ELISA positive samples were negative for HGV genome by RT-PCR. Of the remaining 478 ELISA negative samples, 16 (3.14) samples were positive by RT-PCR. Conclusions: Hepatitis G Virus was not prevalent in the patients undergoing hemodialysis and kidney transplantation in Khuzestan province. Although reports indicated high frequency of co-infection of HGV with hepatitis B and C viruses, in the current research, co-infection of HGV with B and C was not considerable. Since diferent groups and subtypes of HGV are reported, periodic epidemiologic evaluation of HGV and its co-infection with other hepatitis viruses is suggested in other populations such as the patients with thalassemia; however, periodic epidemiologic monitoring of HGV may be helpful to control future potential variations of the virus. © 2015, Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences

    Design and Analysis of Circular Polarized Two-Port MIMO Antennas with Various Antenna Element Orientations

    This article presents the circularly polarized antenna operating over 28 GHz mm-wave applications. The suggested antenna has compact size, simple geometry, wideband, high gain, and offers circular polarization. Afterward, two-port MIMO antenna are designed to get Left Hand Circular Polarization (LHCP) and Right-Hand Circular Polarization (RHCP). Four different cases are adopted to construct two-port MIMO antenna of suggested antenna. In case 1, both of the elements are placed parallel to each other; in the second case, the element is parallel but the radiating patch of second antenna element are rotated by 180°. In the third case, the second antenna element is placed orthogonally to the first antenna element. In the final case, the antenna is parallel but placed in the opposite end of substrate material. The S-parameters, axial ratio bandwidth (ARBW) gain, and radiation efficiency are studied and compared in all these cases. The two MIMO systems of all cases are designed by using Roger RT/Duroid 6002 with thickness of 0.79 mm. The overall size of two-port MIMO antennas is 20.5 mm × 12 mm × 0.79 mm. The MIMO configuration of the suggested CP antenna offers wideband, low mutual coupling, wide ARBW, high gain, and high radiation efficiency. The hardware prototype of all cases is fabricated to verify the predicated results. Moreover, the comparison of suggested two-port MIMO antenna is also performed with already published work, which show the quality of suggested work in terms of various performance parameters over them

    The WISDOM Radar: Unveiling the Subsurface Beneath the ExoMars Rover and Identifying the Best Locations for Drilling

    The search for evidence of past or present life on Mars is the principal objective of the 2020 ESA-Roscosmos ExoMars Rover mission. If such evidence is to be found anywhere, it will most likely be in the subsurface, where organic molecules are shielded from the destructive effects of ionizing radiation and atmospheric oxidants. For this reason, the ExoMars Rover mission has been optimized to investigate the subsurface to identify, understand, and sample those locations where conditions for the preservation of evidence of past life are most likely to be found. The Water Ice Subsurface Deposit Observation on Mars (WISDOM) ground-penetrating radar has been designed to provide information about the nature of the shallow subsurface over depth ranging from 3 to 10 m (with a vertical resolution of up to 3 cm), depending on the dielectric properties of the regolith. This depth range is critical to understanding the geologic evolution stratigraphy and distribution and state of subsurface H2O, which provide important clues in the search for life and the identification of optimal drilling sites for investigation and sampling by the Rover's 2-m drill. WISDOM will help ensure the safety and success of drilling operations by identification of potential hazards that might interfere with retrieval of subsurface samples

    Silver nanoparticles impair retinoic acid-inducible gene I mediated mitochondrial anti-viral immunity by blocking the autophagic flux in lung epithelial cells

    Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) are microbicidal agents which could be potentially used as alternative to antivirals to treat human infectious diseases, especially Influenza virus infection where antivirals have generally proven unsuccessful. However, concerns about the use of AgNPs on humans arise from their potential toxicity, although mechanisms are not well-understood. We show here, in the context of Influenza virus infection of lung epithelial cells, that AgNPs down-regulated Influenza induced-CCL-5 and -IFN-β release (two cytokines important in anti-viral immunity) through RIG-I inhibition, while enhancing IL-8 production, a cytokine important for mobilizing host antibacterial responses. AgNPs activity was independent of coating and was not observed with gold nanoparticles. Down-stream analysis indicated that AgNPs disorganized the mitochondrial network and prevented the anti-viral IRF-7 transcription factor influx into the nucleus. Importantly, we showed that the modulation of RIG-I-IRF-7 pathway was concomitant with inhibition of either classical or alternative autophagy (ATG-5- and Rab-9 dependent, respectively), depending on the epithelial cell type used. Altogether, this demonstration of a AgNPs-mediated functional dichotomy (down-regulation of IFN-dependent anti-viral responses and up-regulation of IL-8 -dependent antibacterial responses) may have practical implications for their use in the clinic

    Analysis of Favipiravir Adverse Drug Reactions during COVID-19 Pandemic: A Retrospective Study Based on Iraqi Pharmacovigilance Center Database

    The “severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)” was the reason behind the recent pandemic “COVID-19” that started from Wuhan, china, and rapidly spread to many regions of the world. Research in Drug repurposing processes to treat this novel coronavirus involved many medications, one of the most discussed is Favipiravir. The objective of the current work was aimed towards Examining the cause, severity, preventability, predictability, and outcome of favipiravir-associated adverse events that had been reported in Iraq. In terms of adverse drug responses, "Gastrointestinal disorders" accounted for the majority (57.4%), followed by "Cardiac disorders" (35.2%), and "Investigations" (abnormal lab test results) (13%). The causality of these reactions Is majorly “Possible” (62%). Severity level 1 (40.9%) and 2 (41.8%). Ninety-nine percent of the ADRs are expected. The majority of the ADRs are non-Preventable (76.3%). The main outcome is Recovered / Resolved (44.5%). About (50%) of the ADRs were serious
