PBStoHTCondor system for campus grids
The campus grid architectures currently available are considered to be overly complex. We have focused on High Throughput Condor HTCondor as one of the most popular middlewares among UK universities, and are proposing a new system for unifying campus grid resources. This new system PBStoCondor is capable of interfacing with Linux based system within the campus grids, and automatically determining the best resource for a given job. The system does not require additional efforts from users and administrators of the campus grid resources. We have compared the real usage data and PBStoCondor system simulation data. The results show a close match. The proposed system will enable better utilization of campus grid resources, and will not require modification in users' workflows
Classification using distance nearest neighbours
This paper proposes a new probabilistic classification algorithm using a
Markov random field approach. The joint distribution of class labels is
explicitly modelled using the distances between feature vectors. Intuitively, a
class label should depend more on class labels which are closer in the feature
space, than those which are further away. Our approach builds on previous work
by Holmes and Adams (2002, 2003) and Cucala et al. (2008). Our work shares many
of the advantages of these approaches in providing a probabilistic basis for
the statistical inference. In comparison to previous work, we present a more
efficient computational algorithm to overcome the intractability of the Markov
random field model. The results of our algorithm are encouraging in comparison

Horseshoe-based Bayesian nonparametric estimation of effective population size trajectories
Phylodynamics is an area of population genetics that uses genetic sequence
data to estimate past population dynamics. Modern state-of-the-art Bayesian
nonparametric methods for recovering population size trajectories of unknown
form use either change-point models or Gaussian process priors. Change-point
models suffer from computational issues when the number of change-points is
unknown and needs to be estimated. Gaussian process-based methods lack local
adaptivity and cannot accurately recover trajectories that exhibit features
such as abrupt changes in trend or varying levels of smoothness. We propose a
novel, locally-adaptive approach to Bayesian nonparametric phylodynamic
inference that has the flexibility to accommodate a large class of functional
behaviors. Local adaptivity results from modeling the log-transformed effective
population size a priori as a horseshoe Markov random field, a recently
proposed statistical model that blends together the best properties of the
change-point and Gaussian process modeling paradigms. We use simulated data to
assess model performance, and find that our proposed method results in reduced
bias and increased precision when compared to contemporary methods. We also use
our models to reconstruct past changes in genetic diversity of human hepatitis
C virus in Egypt and to estimate population size changes of ancient and modern
steppe bison. These analyses show that our new method captures features of the

On the Feasibility of Malware Authorship Attribution
There are many occasions in which the security community is interested to
discover the authorship of malware binaries, either for digital forensics
analysis of malware corpora or for thwarting live threats of malware invasion.
Such a discovery of authorship might be possible due to stylistic features
inherent to software codes written by human programmers. Existing studies of
authorship attribution of general purpose software mainly focus on source code,
which is typically based on the style of programs and environment. However,
those features critically depend on the availability of the program source
code, which is usually not the case when dealing with malware binaries. Such
program binaries often do not retain many semantic or stylistic features due to
the compilation process. Therefore, authorship attribution in the domain of
malware binaries based on features and styles that will survive the compilation
process is challenging. This paper provides the state of the art in this
literature. Further, we analyze the features involved in those techniques. By
using a case study, we identify features that can survive the compilation
process. Finally, we analyze existing works on binary authorship attribution

Some relations between Lagrangian models and synthetic random velocity fields
We propose an alternative interpretation of Markovian transport models based
on the well-mixedness condition, in terms of the properties of a random
velocity field with second order structure functions scaling linearly in the
space time increments. This interpretation allows direct association of the
drift and noise terms entering the model, with the geometry of the turbulent
fluctuations. In particular, the well known non-uniqueness problem in the
well-mixedness approach is solved in terms of the antisymmetric part of the
velocity correlations; its relation with the presence of non-zero mean helicity
and other geometrical properties of the flow is elucidated. The well-mixedness
condition appears to be a special case of the relation between conditional
velocity increments of the random field and the one-point Eulerian velocity
distribution, allowing generalization of the approach to the transport of
non-tracer quantities. Application to solid particle transport leads to a model
satisfying, in the homogeneous isotropic turbulence case, all the conditions on
the behaviour of the correlation times for the fluid velocity sampled by the
particles. In particular, correlation times in the gravity and in the inertia
dominated case, respectively, longer and shorter than in the passive tracer
case; in the gravity dominated case, correlation times longer for velocity
components along gravity, than for the perpendicular ones. The model produces,
in channel flow geometry, particle deposition rates in agreement with

Investigating the cultural and contextual determinants of antimicrobial stewardship programmes across low-, middle- and high-income countriesâA qualitative study
Background
Most of the evidence on antimicrobial stewardship programmes (ASP) to help sustain the effectiveness of antimicrobials is generated in high income countries. We report a study investigating implementation of ASP in secondary care across low-, middle- and high-income countries. The objective of this study was to map the key contextual, including cultural, drivers of the development and implementation of ASP across different resource settings.
Materials and methods
Healthcare professionals responsible for implementing ASP in hospitals in England, France, Norway, India, and Burkina Faso were invited to participate in face-to face interviews. Field notes from observations, documentary evidence, and interview transcripts were analysed using grounded theory approach. The key emerging categories were analysed iteratively using constant comparison, initial coding, going back the field for further data collection, and focused coding. Theoretical sampling was applied until the categories were saturated. Cross-validation and triangulation of the findings were achieved through the multiple data sources.
Results
54 participants from 24 hospitals (England 9 participants/4 hospitals; Norway 13 participants/4 hospitals; France 9 participants/7 hospitals; India 13 participants/ 7 hospitals; Burkina Faso 8 participants/2 hospitals) were interviewed. Across Norway, France and England there was consistency in ASP structures. In India and Burkina Faso there were country level heterogeneity in ASP. State support for ASP was perceived as essential in countries where it is lacking (India, Burkina Faso), and where it was present, it was perceived as a barrier (England, France). Professional boundaries are one of the key cultural determinants dictating involvement in initiatives with doctors recognised as leaders in ASP. Nurse and pharmacist involvement was limited to England. The surgical specialty was identified as most difficult to engage with in each country. Despite challenges, one hospital in India provided the best example of interdisciplinary ASP, championed through organisational leadership.
Conclusions
ASP initiatives in this study were restricted by professional boundaries and hierarchies, with lack of engagement with the wider healthcare workforce. There needs to be promotion of interdisciplinary team work including pharmacists and nurses, depending on the available healthcare workforce in different countries, in ASP. The surgical pathway remains a hard to reach, but critical target for ASP globally. There is a need to develop contextually driven ASP targeting the surgical pathway in different resource settings
Delivering the Future: Evaluation of a Multidisciplinary Clinical Leadership Programme in NHS Scotland.
The Delivering the Future (DtF) leadership programme was established in 2005 to strengthen senior clinical leadership capacity and capability across NHS Scotland. This paper reports on an evaluation of the programme to determine the extent to which the programme outcomes had been achieved. Sixty-seven (57%) programme participants responded to a questionnaire survey about their experience, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with participants (n=8) and senior leaders (n=7) at NHS Board level.
The programme was highly regarded by participants and strategic level leads. The majority of DtF participants had been promoted or taken on expanded roles since completing the programme, taking on greater leadership responsibility. The programme was seen to be a significant influence on accelerating the progression of individuals to these roles, and in developing skills to perform at a senior leadership level. The significant investment in the programme was thought to be worthwhile in terms of wider benefits, albeit with a need to make better collective use of the alumni at a national level
Vortex lattice studies in CeCoIn5 with H perpendicular to c
We present small angle neutron scattering studies of the vortex lattice (VL)
in CeCoIn5 with magnetic fields applied parallel (H) to the antinodal [100] and
nodal [110] directions. For H || [100], a single VL orientation is observed,
while a 90 degree reorientation transition is found for H || [110]. For both
field orientations and VL configurations we find a distorted hexagonal VL with
an anisotropy, Gamma = 2.0 +/- 0.05. The VL form factor shows strong Pauli
paramagnetic effects similar to what have previously been reported for H ||
[001]. At high fields, above which the upper critical field (Hc2) becomes a
first-order transition, an increased disordering of the VL is observed.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Temperature dependence of spin polarizations at higher Landau Levels
We report our results on temperature dependence of spin polarizations at
in the lowest as well as in the next higher Landau level that compare
well with recent experimental results. At , except having a much smaller
magnitude the behavior of spin polarization is not much influenced by higher
Landau levels. In sharp contrast, for filling factor we predict
that unlike the case of the system remains fully spin polarized
