Evaluation of the Properties of Iron Oxide-Filled Castor Oil Polyurethane

The aim of this study was to obtain and evaluate the electrical, thermal and mechanical properties of iron oxide-filled castor oil polyurethane (PU/Fe2O3). The iron oxide used in this study was a residue derived from the steel pickling process of a Brazilian steel rolling industry. Polymeric composites with different iron oxide volume fractions (2.5, 5.0, 7.5, 10.0 and 12.5%) were prepared through the casting process followed by compression molding at room temperature. The composites were analyzed by FTIR, XRD and densities, tensile strength, Young’s modulus, electrical and thermal conductivities measurements. By increasing the iron oxide content, the apparent density, tensile strength, Young’s modulus and electrical conductivity values of the composites were also increased. The iron oxide additions did not change significantly the value of thermal conductivity (from 0.191 W.mK–1 for PU up to 0.340 W.mK–1 for PU enriched with 12.5% v/v of iron oxide). Thus, even at the higher iron oxide concentration, the compounds as well as the pure polyurethane can be classified as thermal insulators

Schistosomiasis: Setting Routes for Drug Discovery

Schistosomiasis is the second most prevalent parasitic disease in the world. Currently, the treatment of this disease relies on a single drug, praziquantel, and due to the identification of resistant parasites, the development of new drugs is urged. The demand for the development of robust high‐throughput parasite screening techniques is increasing as drug discovery research in schistosomiasis gains significance. Here, we review the most common methods used for compound screening in the parasites life stages and also summarize some of the methods that have been recently developed. In addition, we reviewed the methods most commonly implemented to search for promising targets and how they have been used to validate new targets against the parasite Schistosoma mansoni. We also review some promising targets in this parasite and show the main approaches and the major advances that have been achieved by those studies. Case report: Aplastic anaemia and gray matter heterotopias in an autopsy of a 17-year-old puerperal woman

In this report, we present an autopsy case of a 17-year-old girl with aplastic anaemia in the puerperal context, along with the presence of four independent nodular gray matter heterotopias in brain slices. The case is remarkable both by the rareness of the cause of death – septicaemia resulting from immunodepression due to aplastic anaemia in the obstetric context – and the brain morphologic findings unrelated to any known clinical manifestation. Immunohistochemistry was performed in order to ensure the precision of the diagnoses.

Theoretical investigation on H2O2-Ng (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, and Rn) complexes suitable for stereodynamics : interactions and thermal chiral rate consequences

Although molecular collisions of noble gases (Ng) can be theoretically used to distinguish between the enantiomers of hydrogen peroxide - H2O2 (HP), little is known about the effects of HP-Ng interactions on the chiral rate. In this work, the chiral rate as a function of temperature (CRT) between enantiomeric conformations of HP and Ng (Ng=He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, and Rn) are presented at MP2(full)/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory through a fully basis set superposition error (BSSE) corrected potential energy surface. The results show that: (a) the CRT is highly affected even at a small decrease in the height of trans-barrier; (b) its smallest values occur with Ne for all temperatures between 100 and 4,000 K; (c) that the decrease of CRT shows an inverse correlation with respect to the average valence electron energy of the Ng and (d) Ne and He may be the noble gases more suitable for study the oriented collision dynamics of HP. In addition to binding energies, the electron density ρ and its Laplacian ∇2ρ topological analyses were also performed within the atoms in molecules (AIM) theory in order to determine the nature of the HP-Ng interactions. The results of this work provide a more complete foundation on experiments to study HP's chirality using Ng in crossed molecular beams without a light source

Valoração econômica do Parque Nacional de Brasília

This study aimed to analyze the willingness of the population to pay for the maintenance and conservation of the National Park of Brasília - NPB, valuing its environmental attributes and contributing to the improvement and preservation of the Conservation Unit. To this end, 385 questionnaires were applied during February, March and April of 2014. The profile of respondents’ willingness to pay was analyzed with a logistic regression. The estimated willingness to pay was R$9.31/month, paid mainly by people who know the NPB and with better economic situation. This shows that the population of interest revealed a significant desire to contribute to the park.Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar a disposição da população de pagar pela manutenção e conservação do Parque Nacional de Brasília - PNB, valorando os seus atributos ambientais e contribuindo para a melhoria e preservação da referida Unidade de Conservação. Para tanto, 385 questionários foram aplicados durante fevereiro, março e abril de 2014. A disposição a pagar e o perfil dos entrevistados foi analisado com uma regressão logística. A disposição de pagar estimada foi de R$ 9,31/mês, paga principalmente pelas pessoas que conhecem o PNB e com melhor situação econômica. Consumers’ Inflation Expectations in Brazil

O artigo investiga as principais variáveis que influenciam a formação das expectativas de inflação dos consumidores brasileiros. Combinamos sondagem do consumidor, divulgada pela FGV, índices de inflação (IPCA e preços regulados pelo governo), previsões do mercado para oIPCA publicadas no Boletim Focus e informações sobre a circulação de notícias de inflação em um dos maiores e mais importantes jornais nacionais, Folha de São Paulo, a fim de determinarfatores relevantes para previsão da inflação dos consumidores e melhoria da acurácia da mesma.A análise dos microdados da sondagem do consumidor identificou como principais variáveis o gênero, a idade e a cidade de residência. Dados agregados mostram a inflação passada como fator importante na formação das expectativas dos consumidores enquanto a previsão do  mercado não é significativa. Além disso, a mídia desempenha papel significativo, contando não apenas para a formação das expectativas como também para a melhora da compreensão sobre a inflação atual.This paper investigates what are the main components of consumer’s inflation expectations. We combine the FGV’s Consumer Survey with the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE) indices on inflation (IPCA and regulated prices), the professional forecasts disclosed in the Focus report and the media data we crawl from one of the biggest and most important Brazilian newspapers, Folha de São Paulo, to determine what factors are responsible for and improve consumer’s forecast accuracy. We found gender, age and cities as major elements when analyzing the micro-data. Aggregated data shows the past inflation as an important trigger in the formation of consumers’ expectations and the professional forecasts as negligible. Moreover, the media plays a significant role, accounting not only for the expectations’ formation but for a better understanding of actual inflation as well

A legislação brasileira ainda impõe barreiras a determinados arranjos familiares, em especial as famílias oriundas de conjugalidades simultâneas. A presente investigação procurou demonstrar como o novo direito das famílias equaciona a realidade das conjugalidades simultâneas. Procedeu-se uma pesquisa bibliográfica em cotejo com análise jurisprudencial, tendo-se elegido o Tribunal de Justiça de Santa Catarina. O resultado foi que o posicionamento legalista de rejeitar a simultaneidade ainda reverbera na jurisprudência. Contudo, os novos posicionamentos, que valorando o elemento da boa-fé, reconhecem a conjugalidade simultânea e estendem a elas a proteção do direito das famílias também estão presentes na jurisprudência do tribunal analisado.  PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Monogamia; Conjugalidades Simultâneas; Jurisprudência. ABSTRACT: The contemporary Family Law seeks to protect the various family arrangements, with a view to the pursuit of happiness in the family and the protection of the dignity of its members. The Brazilian legislation still imposes barriers to certain family arrangements, especially families from simultaneous conjugalities. This research intended to demonstrate how the new family law deals with simultaneous conjugalities. A bibliographic research was performed along with a case law analysis of the Court of Justice of Santa Catarina. The result was that the legal position that rejects simultaneity still resounds on the case law. ZONEAMENTO URBANO E DIREITO FUNDAMENTAL AO TRABALHO: POSSIBILIDADES PARA O DESENVOLVIMENTO SUSTENTÁVEL

Os problemas relacionados ao direito à moradia se comunicam com outras áreas jurídicas, como o direito ao trabalho digno. Diante disso, objetivou-se verificar os possíveis impactos da política urbana nos direitos do trabalhador. Portanto, é feita neste estudo uma explanação sobre alguns instrumentos de política urbana e seu possível diálogo com questões relacionadas ao direito do trabalho. Após isso, é feita a exposição da situação de quatro comunidades de Fortaleza. Consegue-se verificar os impactos da política urbana sobre o direito ao trabalho digno, sobretudo em relação ao descanso e deslocamento, e, partindo dessas observações, é possível formular algumas considerações.Palavras-chave: Direito urbanístico; sustentabilidade; meio ambiente do trabalho; mobilidade urbana; ZEIS

SINDROME DE FOURNIER RECIDIVADA

The Fournier’s Syndrome is characterized by a necrotizing infection that can affect regions such as perineum, thighs, scrotum, thigh roots and lower abdomen. It begins insidiously, but progresses with great tissue loss and is of difficult handling. It is an uncommon morbidity of the population at large. Recurrence is poorly documented, which makes its occurrence atypical in medical practice. The mortality rate varies from 10% to 30.8% in Brazil without changes over time despite advances in technology and in surgical techniques. The objective of this study is to demonstrate a recurrence of the syndrome in a male, 46-year-old patient, with diabetes, hypertension and grade III obesity. The patient was treated in a timely manner with satisfactory clinical and aesthetic outcomes.RESUMO A síndrome de fournier caracteriza-se por uma infecção necrozante que pode acometer região perineal, coxa, escroto, raízes de coxa e abdome inferior. Tem seu início insidioso, porém com progressão com grande perda de tecidos e difícil manejo. É uma morbidade incomum da população em geral. A recidiva é pouco documentada tornando-se atípico na prática médica.  A taxa de mortalidade varia de 10% a 30.8% no Brasil sem mudança no decorrer do tempo apesar dos avanços tecnológicos e de técnicas cirúrgicas. O objetivo deste estudo é demonstrar uma recidiva da Síndrome em um paciente masculino, 46 anos com diabetes, hipertensão e obesidade grau III. Foi tratada em tempo hábil com bom desfecho clínico e estético
