Knowledgezoom for java: A concept-based exam study tool with a zoomable open student model

    Get PDF
This paper presents our attempt to develop a personalized exam preparation tool for Java/OOP classes based on a fine-grained concept model of Java knowledge. Our goal was to explore two most popular student model-based approaches: open student modeling and problem sequencing. The result of our work is a Java exam preparation tool, Knowledge Zoom. The tool combines an open concept-level student model component, Knowledge Explorer and a concept-based sequencing component, Knowledge Maximizer into a single interface. This paper presents both components of Knowledge Zoom, reports results of its evaluation, and discusses lessons learned. © 2013 IEEE

The use of ceramic tiles in architecture has always been a subject seen in various projects. These ceramic elements, called azulejo, are otien connected to modern architecture. In Italy, this element, called piastrelle, is notable material in architecture which forms an idea of technical and formal modernization. This article aims to analyze the work of two architects, an Italian and a Brazilian one. The artist Athos Bulcão, is known for his large contribution to the Brazilian modern architecture. The Italian architect Gio Ponti contributed all of his working life to the development of ceramics, from the scope of arts to architecture. This proposal demonstrates the strength of these elements in architecture and space through an exhibition project that respects the traditional identity and shows the historical importance of these ceramic tiles both in Brazilian and Italian architectural history. The main characteristic of this proposal is the innovative interpretation between these two remarkable artists who turned this element into an icon of perpetuityinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Testing M2T/T2M Transformations

Presentado en: 16th International Conference on Model Driven Engineering Languages and Systems (MODELS 2013). Del 29 de septiembre al 4 de octubre. Miami, EEUU.Testing model-to-model (M2M) transformations is becoming a prominent topic in the current Model-driven Engineering landscape. Current approaches for transformation testing, however, assume having explicit model representations for the input domain and for the output domain of the transformation. This excludes other important transformation kinds, such as model-to-text (M2T) and text-to-model (T2M) transformations, from being properly tested since adequate model representations are missing either for the input domain or for the output domain. The contribution of this paper to overcome this gap is extending Tracts, a M2M transformation testing approach, for M2T/T2M transformation testing. The main mechanism we employ for reusing Tracts is to represent text within a generic metamodel. By this, we transform the M2T/T2M transformation specification problems into equivalent M2M transformation specification problems. We demonstrate the applicability of the approach by two examples and present how the approach is implemented for the Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF). Finally, we apply the approach to evaluate code generation capabilities of several existing UML tools.Universidad de Málaga. Campus de Excelencia Internacional Andalucía Tech. Proyecto TIN2011-2379

A(e⃗,e′p⃗)(\vec{e},e'\vec{p})B responses: from bare nucleons to complex nuclei

We study the occurrence of factorization in polarized and unpolarized observables in coincidence quasi-elastic electron scattering. Starting with the relativistic distorted wave impulse approximation, we reformulate the effective momentum approximation and show that the latter leads to observables which factorize under some specific conditions. Within this framework, the role played by final state interactions and, in particular, by the spin-orbit term is explored. Connection with the nonrelativistic formalism is studied in depth. Numerical results are presented to illustrate the analytical derivations and to quantify the differences between factorized and unfactorized approaches.Comment: 26 pages, 5 figures. Interpolating the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick replica trick

The interpolation techniques have become, in the past decades, a powerful approach to lighten several properties of spin glasses within a simple mathematical framework. Intrinsically, for their construction, these schemes were naturally implemented into the cavity field technique, or its variants as the stochastic stability or the random overlap structures. However the first and most famous approach to mean field statistical mechanics with quenched disorder is the replica trick. Among the models where these methods have been used (namely, dealing with frustration and complexity), probably the best known is the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick spin glass: In this paper we are pleased to apply the interpolation scheme to the replica trick framework and test it directly to the cited paradigmatic model: interestingly this allows to obtain easily the replica-symmetric control and, synergically with the broken replica bounds, a description of the full RSB scenario, both coupled with several minor theorems. Furthermore, by treating the amount of replicas n∈(0,1]n\in(0,1] as an interpolating parameter (far from its original interpretation) this can be though of as a quenching temperature close to the one introduce in off-equilibrium approaches and, within this viewpoint, the proof of the attended commutativity of the zero replica and the infinite volume limits can be obtained.Comment: This article is dedicated to David Sherrington on the occasion of his seventieth birthda

Realization of GHZ States and the GHZ Test via Cavity QED

In this article we discuss the realization of atomic GHZ states involving three-level atoms and we show explicitly how to use this state to perform the GHZ test in which it is possible to decide between local realism theories and quantum mechanics. The experimental realizations proposed makes use of the interaction of Rydberg atoms with a cavity prepared in a coherent state.Comment: 16 pages and 3 figures. submitted to J. Mod. Op

Good refugees, bad migrants? Intergroup helping orientations towards refugees, migrants and economic migrants in Germany

The present study examined the effect of group labels on helping behavioral intentions toward displaced people in Germany. Specifically, it examined the impact of different labels evoking either voluntary or forced migration (i.e., migrants, economic migrants, and refugees) on different helping orientations (e.g., dependency vs. autonomy-ori-ented helping) and if these effects occur via perceived intergroup threat, warmth and competence stereotypes. Participants (N = 304) were randomly assigned to one of three conditions (refugee vs. migrant vs. economic migrant) and read fabricated case vignettes, featuring a displaced person who arrived in Germany recently. Results showed that, as predicted, the use of different group labels affected the helping ori-entations of host society members, as well as, the stereotypes they held. No signifi-cant label effects were found for intergroup threat. While the label refugee evoked dependency-oriented helping intentions and triggered paternalistic stereotypes, the label economic migrants increased opposition to help, decreased help affirmation and evoked envious stereotypes. Practical implications to strengthen peaceful intergroup relations between host society members and newcomers are discussed.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
