Basics of Resonant Elastic X-ray Scattering theory
International audienceWe recall the basic equations of Resonant Elastic X-ray Scattering (REXS), starting from the photon-electron Hamiltonian interaction, and describing the different components for the possible transitions. We also make the connection with classical physics and we emphasize the signs of the relevant terms, resonant and non resonant, to comply to the convention on the phase wave

Strain driven monoclinic distortion of ultrathin CoO films in the exchange-coupled CoO/FePt/Pt(001) system
International audienceThe structure and strain of ultrathin CoO films grown on a Pt(001) substrate and on a ferro-magnetic FePt pseudomorphic layer on Pt(001) have been determined with insitu and real time surface x-ray diffraction. The films grow epitaxially on both surfaces with an in-plane hexagonal pattern that yields a pseudo-cubic CoO(111) surface. A refined x-ray diffraction analysis reveals a slight monoclinic distortion at RT induced by the anisotropic stress at the interface. The tetrag-onal contribution to the distortion results in a ratio c a > 1, opposite to that found in the low temperature bulk CoO phase. This distortion leads to a stable Co 2+ spin configuration within the plane of the film
Emergence of ferromagnetism and Jahn-Teller distortion in low Cr-substituted LaMnO3
The emergence of a ferromagnetic component in with low Cr-for-Mn
substitution has been studied by x-ray absorption spectroscopy and x-ray
magnetic circular dichroism at the Mn and Cr K edges. The local magnetic moment
strength for the Mn and Cr are proportional to each other and follows the
macroscopic magnetization. The net ferromagnetic components of and
are found antiferromagnetically coupled. Unlike hole doping by La
site substitution, the inclusion of ions up to x = 0.15 does not
decrease the Jahn-Teller (JT) distortion and consequently does not
significantly affect the orbital ordering. This demonstrates that the emergence
of the ferromagnetism is not related to JT weakening and likely arises from a
complex orbital mixing.Comment: 5 figure

Development of 55 novel polymorphic microsatellite loci for the critically endangered L. (Actinopterygii: Perciformes: Percidae) and cross-species amplification in five other percids
International audienceBy combining biotin-enrichment protocol and next generation pyrosequencing, through 454 GS-FLX Titanium technology, 55 polymorphic microsatellites loci with perfect motif were isolated from the Rhone streber (), a critically endangered European fish species. Eight multiplex PCR kits were optimised in order to genotype a total of 58 polymorphic loci, including three previously published loci. The level of genetic diversity was assessed for 68 , 30 , 33 and four individuals. Amplification success was also assessed on and using single individuals. These markers will be useful to investigate the population structure of the highly fragmented Rhone streber. They represent a powerful tool for conservation issues and evolutionary approaches of this endemic species. Moreover, part of our markers demonstrated applicability to other percid species, allowing for potential applications to fisheries and aquaculture management
Glenohumeral joint capsular tissue tension loading correlates moderately with shear wave elastography: a cadaveric investigation
Purpose
The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in the mechanical properties of capsular tissue using shear wave elastography (SWE) and a durometer under various tensile loads, and to explore the reliability and correlation of SWE and durometer measurements to evaluate whether SWE technology could be used to assess tissue changes during capsule tensile loading.
Methods
The inferior glenohumeral joint capsule was harvested from 10 fresh human cadaveric specimens. Tensile loading was applied to the capsular tissue using 1-, 3-, 5-, and 8-kg weights. Blinded investigators measured tissue stiffness and hardness during loading using SWE and a durometer, respectively. Intraobserver reliability was established for SWE and durometer measurements using intraclass correlation coefficients (ICCs). The Pearson product-moment correlation was used to assess the associations between SWE and durometer measurements.
Results
The ICC3,5 for durometer measurements was 0.90 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.79 to 0.96; P<0.001) and 0.95 (95% CI, 0.88 to 0.98; P<0.001) for SWE measurements. The Pearson correlation coefficient values for 1-, 3-, and 5-kg weights were 0.56 (P=0.095), 0.36 (P=0.313), and -0.56 (P=0.089), respectively. When the 1- and 3-kg weights were combined, the ICC3,5 was 0.72 (P<0.001), and it was 0.62 (P<0.001) when the 1-, 3-, and 5-kg weights were combined. The 8-kg measurements were severely limited due to SWE measurement saturation of the tissue samples.
Conclusion
This study suggests that SWE is reliable for measuring capsular tissue stiffness changes in vitro at lower loads (1 and 3 kg) and provides a baseline for the non-invasive evaluation of effects of joint loading and mobilization on capsular tissues in vivo
Treating delusional disorder : a comparison of cognitive-behavioural therapy and attention placebo control
Objective: Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT) has proved effective in treating
delusions, both in schizophrenia and delusional disorder (DD). Clinical trials of DD have
mostly compared CBT with either treatment as usual, no treatment, or a wait-list control.
This current study aimed to assess patients with DD who received CBT, compared with an
attention placebo control (APC) group.
Method: Twenty-four individuals with DD were randomly allocated into either CBT or
APC groups for a 24-week treatment period. Patients were diagnosed on the basis of
structured clinical interviews for mental disorders and the Maudsley Assessment of
Delusion Schedule (MADS).
Results: Completers in both groups (n = 11 for CBT; n = 6 for APC) showed clinical
improvement on the MADS dimensions of Strength of Conviction, Insight, Preoccupation,
Systematization, Affect Relating to Belief, Belief Maintenance Factors, and Idiosyncrasy
of Belief.
Conclusion: When compared with APC, CBT produced more impact on the MADS
dimensions for Affect Relating to Belief, Strength of Conviction, and Positive Actions on
Beliefs
