    Nonreciprocal Spin Waves in Nanoscale Domain Walls Detected by Scanning X-ray Microscopy in Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropic Fe/Gd Multilayers

    Spin wave nonreciprocity in domain walls (DWs) allows for unidirectional signal processing in reconfigurable magnonic circuits. Using scanning transmission x-ray microscopy (STXM), we examined coherently-excited magnons propagating in Bloch-like DWs in amorphous Fe/Gd multilayers with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy (PMA). Near 1 GHz we detected magnons with short wavelengths down to λ=281\lambda = 281 nm in DWs whose minimum width amounted to ΎDW=52\delta_{\rm DW} = 52 nm. Consistent with micromagnetic simulations, the STXM data reveal their nonreciprocal magnon band structures. We identified Bloch points which disrupted the phase evolution of magnons and induced different λ\lambda adjacent to the topological defects. Our observations provide direct evidence of nonreciprocal spin waves within Bloch-like DWs, serving as programmable waveguides in magnonic devices with directed information flow

    Effect of external pressure on the magnetic properties of LnFeAsO (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, Sm)

    We investigate the effect of external pressure on magnetic order in undoped LnFeAsO (Ln = La, Ce, Pr, La) by using muon-spin relaxation measurements and ab-initio calculations. Both magnetic transition temperature TmT_m and Fe magnetic moment decrease with external pressure. The effect is observed to be lanthanide dependent with the strongest response for Ln = La and the weakest for Ln = Sm. The trend is qualitatively in agreement with our DFT calculations. The same calculations allow us to assign a value of 0.68(2) ÎŒB\mu_B to the Fe moment, obtained from an accurate determination of the muon sites. Our data further show that the magnetic lanthanide order transitions do not follow the simple trend of Fe, possibly as a consequence of the different ff-electron overlap.Comment: 16 pages, 11 figure

    Validity of biomarkers of early circulatory impairment to predict outcome: a retrospective analysis

    Objectives: The definition of circulatory impairment in the premature infant is controversial. Current research suggests overdiagnosis and overtreatment. We aimed to analyse which biomarkers move clinicians to initiate cardiovascular treatment (CVT). The prognostic capacity for adverse outcome (death and/or moderate-severe brain damage by cranial ultrasound at term equivalent) of these biomarkers was evaluated. Study Design: Retrospective data analysis from preterm infants enrolled in a placebo-controlled trial on dobutamine for low superior vena cava (SVC) flow, who showed normal SVC flow within the first 24 h (not randomized). Five positive biomarkers were considered: MABP 4 mmol/L; BE < −9 mmol/L; SVC flow <51 ml/kg/min. Results: Ninety eight infants formed the study cohort. Thirty six received CVT (2–95 h). Logistic regression models adjusted for gestational age showed a positive association between CVT and the risk of death or moderate-severe abnormal cranial ultrasound at term equivalent [(OR 5.2, 95%CI: 1.8–15.1) p = 0.002]. MABP 4 mmol/L were the most prevalent biomarkers at start of treatment. Low BE, high serum lactate and low SVC flow at first echocardiography showed a trend toward being associated with adverse outcome, although not statistically significant. Conclusions: Low blood pressure and high lactate are the most prevalent biomarkers used for CVT prescription. Lactic acidosis and low SVC flow early after birth showed a trend toward being associated with adverse outcome. These findings support using a combination of biomarkers for inclusion in a placebo-controlled trial on CVT during transitional circulation

    MAPPinfo, mapping quality of health information: Study protocol for a validation study of an assessment instrument

    Abstract - Introduction Health information is a prerequisite of informed decision-making. Criteria for development, content and presentation have recently been published in a corresponding guideline. Within a systematic search, 27 relevant checklists were identified, none of them, however, complying with the guideline or providing reasonably operationalised measurement items. Therefore, a draft of a checklist with 19 criteria was drafted. The current study aims at developing and validating this measure of quality. Methods and analysis - The validation design consists of five single studies to be conducted at the University of Halle-Wittenberg/Germany and Graz/Austria. (1) Achieving content validity through expert reviews of the first draft, (2) achieving feasibility using ‘think aloud’ in piloting with untrained users, (3) pretesting the instrument applied to health information materials without use of secondary sources: determining inter-rater reliability and criterion validity, (4) determining construct validity using information on proceedings and methods in the development process provided by the developers and (5) determining divergent validity in comparison with the Ensuring Quality Information for Patients (EQUIP) (expanded) Scale. The substudies will use varying samples of experts, students and developers and will apply the instrument to materials of various domains. Sample sizes will be adjusted to the particular research designs and questions. Analyses will employ qualitative methods, such as content analyses and discourse within the expert panel, and correlation-based methods both for determining inter-rater reliability and validity. Ethics and dissemination - The project is approved by the ethics committee of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (approval number: 2019 115). Results will be published, and the instrument made accessible on public health platforms. It is meant to become a certification standard. MAPPinfo can be used as a screening instrument without training or secondary sources. Although developed in the German language, the instrument will be applicable also in other languages

    In this paper we report a detailed ÎŒ+\mu^{+}SR and {}19^{19}F-NMR study of the La0.7_{0.7}Y0.3_{0.3}FeAsO1−x_{1-x}Fx_{x} class of materials. Here, the diamagnetic La1−y_{1-y}Yy_{y} substitution increases chemical pressure and, accordingly, sizeably enhances the optimal superconducting transition temperature. We investigate the magnetic-superconducting phase transition by keeping the Y content constant (y=0.3y = 0.3) and by varying the F content in the range 0.025≀x≀0.150.025 \leq x \leq 0.15. Our results show how magnetism and superconductivity coexist for x=0.065x = 0.065. Such coexistence is due to segregation of the two phases in macroscopic regions, resembling what was observed in LaFeAsO1−x_{1-x}Fx_{x} materials under applied hydrostatic pressure. This scenario is qualitatively different from the nanoscopic coexistence of the two order parameters observed when La is fully substituted by magnetic rare-earth ions like Sm or Ce

    Protroca: A Noninterventional Study on Prophylactic Lipegfilgrastim against Chemotherapy-Induced Neutropenia in Nonselected Breast Cancer Patients

    Background: Protroca evaluated the efficacy and safety of primary and secondary prophylaxis of neutropenia with lipegfilgrastim (Lonquex (R)) in breast cancer patients receiving neoadjuvant or adjuvant chemotherapy (CT). Patients and Methods: Of the 255 patients enrolled, 248 patients were evaluable for the intent-to-treat (ITT) and 194 patients for the per-protocol set. Primary and secondary end points after lipegfilgrastim treatment were assessed. Results: Nine patients of the ITT set receiving lipegfilgrastim as primary prophylaxis (n = 222) had febrile neutropenia of grade 3-4 (5 patients) or infection of grade 3-4 (4 patients); 1/26 of those receiving secondary prophylaxis had an event. Dose reductions were performed in 9.5% of the patients. Postponement of cancer CT cycles for >3 days occurred in <15% of patients; 10.8% (92/851 AEs) and 8% (2/25 SAEs) of documented adverse events and serious adverse events, respectively, were related to lipegfilgrastim. Conclusions: Application of lipegfilgrastim was effective as primary and secondary prophylaxis in the prevention of CT-induced neutropenia in breast cancer
