Consideraciones sobre la influencia de Walter Scott en la novela histórica española del siglo XIX

Este artículo presenta una visión general de la influencia de Walter Scott en la novela histórica española del siglo XIX, cuestión ésta sobre la que la crítica no sustenta una opinión unánime. El análisis se articula en torno a tres parámetros: en primer lugar, los planteamientos de la crítica respecto a la calidad y valor literario de las novelas históricas españolas basadas en el modelo creado por Scott; en segundo lugar, el alcance de esta influencia con respecto a ciertos elementos como la trama, los personajes y las técnicas estilísticas caracterizadores de este tipo de ficción; por último, el cultivo en España, tras el declive de la popularidad de Scott, de diferentes modalidades de novela histórica que se alejan del patrón fijado por el maestro escocés.This article presents an overview of Walter Scott 's influence on the nineteenth-century Spanish historical novel, a matter on which there has not always been agreement among literary critics. Three parameters will be considered in this analysis: firstly, critical judgements as to the quality and valué of Spanish historical novéis modelled on Scott 's; secondly, the extent of the influence on such features as plot, characters or style techniques which became commonplace in this type of novel; finally, the subsequent publication of different forms of historical novel in Spain after Scott's popularity waned, even though they departed from the classical pattern created by the Scottish author.Cet article présente une visión genérale de l'influence de Walter Scott sur le román historique espagnol du XlXe siécle. La nature de cette influence est sujet de polémique parmi les critiques littéraires. Cette étude s'articule autour de trois grands axes: tout d'abord, les appréciations de la critique quant á la qualité et la valeur littéraires des romans historiques espagnols construits sur le modele établi par Scott; puis la portee de cette influence sur des éléments tels que l'intrigue, les personnages et les techniques stylistiques devenus caractéristiques du genre; enfin, l'étude considérera la persistence en Espagne de différents genres de romans historiques de plus en plus éloignés du modele fixé par le maítre écossais, aprés la baisse de populante de celui-ci

AbstractThe aim of this paper is to analyse different translated texts applying the theoretical principles provided by the Manipulation School, which include the notions of ‘equivalence’ and ‘translation norms’. The key point to be considered is that the act of translating is not neutral in the sense that translation shapes the way in which the target reader receives a work, an author, or a culture. In the present analysis, two examples will be discussed in which the translators have manipulated the source texts for different reasons: a literary translation concerned with the question of dialect and social class; and the translation of a newspaper article manipulated for political and ideological reasons

Galois Theory, discriminants and torsion subgroups of elliptic curves

We find a tight relationship between the torsion subgroup and the image of the mod 2 Galois representation associated to an elliptic curve defined over the rationals. This is shown using some characterizations for the squareness of the discriminant of the elliptic curve

Ejemplos de contextos sociales en los que es importante desarrollar el pensamiento crítico de los ciudadanos

El pensamiento crítico se considera clave para que los ciudadanos puedan desenvolverse de forma adecuada en una sociedad cada vez más implicada con la ciencia y la tecnología, como mostró un estudio Delphi realizado con un panel de expertos españoles relacionados con la ciencia resaltándolo como el aspecto del ámbito científico-tecnológico con mayor consenso. Este trabajo profundiza en los contextos sociales que los expertos de dicho estudio Delphi consideraron importantes para desarrollar el pensamiento crítico. Los ejemplos propuestos se categorizaron en tres contextos (salud, medioambiente y recursos naturales) y tres niveles de relevancia en la vida (personal, social y global). Study and Design of a Diferentially Fed Tapered Slot Antenna Array

The results of a parametric study and design of an ultrawideband dual-polarized array of differentially-fed tapered slot antenna elements are presented. We examine arrays of bunny-ear antennas and discuss the capabilities and limitations of differential antenna technology. As we focus on radio astronomical applications, the absence of a balancing-feed circuit not only reduces the first-stage noise contribution associated to losses in the feed, but also leads to a cost reduction. Common-modes are supported by the antenna structure when a third conductor is present, such as a ground plane. We demonstrate that anomalies may occur in the differential-mode scan impedance. Knowledge of both types of scan impedances, differential and common mode, is required to properly design differential LNAs and to achieve optimal receiver sensitivity. A compromise solution is proposed based on the partial suppression of the undesired common-mode currents through a (low loss) balancing-dissipation technique. The objectives of this study focus on knowing, in the first place, knowing what the levels of cognitive anxiety, self-confidence and somatic anxiety are among boys and girls before starting the competition. And, secondly, analyze the impact that the result of the match (victory-defeat) has on the aforementioned dimensions in both men and women. 95 soccer players participated in the research (26 women and 69 men) belonging to the cadet, youth and senior categories of different soccer clubs that compete in league championships in the city of Vitoria Gasteiz. Participants completed the Competitive Anxiety Inventory in Sports (CSAI-2). (18), consisting of 27 items, adapted and validated into Spanish by (5) and subsequently revised and used by other researchers (3). The results reflect a greater self-confidence on the part of men in the moment prior to competing compared to women, who show high levels of somatic anxiety. The correct reading of the anxiety states of athletes can help trainers and physical trainers to modulate the tone and content of motivational talks and technical-tactical instructions so that there is greater use by the athlete of the information that the technicians transfer them.Los objetivos de este estudio se centran, en primer lugar, en conocer cuáles son los niveles de ansiedad cognitiva, autoconfianza y ansiedad somática previa y posterior al partido. Y, en segundo lugar, analizar el impacto que tiene el resultado del encuentro (victoria-derrota) en las dimensiones mencionadas tanto en hombres como en mujeres. En la investigación participaron 95 futbolistas (26 mujeres y 69 varones) pertenecientes a las categorías cadete, juvenil y senior de diferentes clubes de fútbol que compiten en los campeonatos ligueros de la ciudad de Vitoria Gasteiz. Los participantes completaron el Inventario de Ansiedad Competitiva en el Deporte (CSAI-2). (18), formado por 27 ítems, adaptado y validado al español por (5) y revisado posteriormente y empleado por otros investigadores (3). Los resultados reflejan una mayor autoconfianza por parte de los hombres en el momento previo a competir respecto a las mujeres, las cuales, muestran elevados valores de ansiedad somática. Lugares de interés geomorfológico, geopatrimonio y gestión de espacios naturales protegidos: el Parque Natural de Valderejo (Álava, España)

Producción CientíficaEste trabajo destaca la necesidad de incorporar el análisis de los elementos geomorfológicos a la gestión de los espacios naturales protegidos. Dentro de ellos, los lugares de interés geomorfológico o geomorfositios, se erigen en auténticos recursos de valor patrimonial, ya que a su valor natural unen otra serie de valores culturales y de uso, constituyendo útiles de desarrollo local. El objetivo del trabajo es inventariar, definir y valorar los geomorfositios del Parque Natural de Valderejo (Álava, España) aplicando una metodología semicuantitativa basada en la combinación de sus valores intrínsecos, añadidos y de uso; todo ello ha permitido definir en Valderejo cinco geomorfo-sitios sobre los que se plantean distintas propuestas de gestión basadas en sus respectivas valoraciones. La metodología empleada se ha mostrado útil como medio para inventariar, diagnosticar y definir propuestas encaminadas a una mejor gestión de los geomorfositios del Parque, siendo aplicable a otros espacios naturales protegidos.This paper attempts to highlight the need to incorporate geomorphological elements into the management of protected natural areas, as a major element in the articulation of the natural system. The geomorphological heritage is constituted of sites of interest called Geomorphosites that included scientific but also added, cultural or scenic values, which make them authentic heritage resources. For assessment of geomorphosites, a semi-quantitative methodology based on the intrinsic added value and use was been applied. The study focuses on inventorying and evaluating geomorphosites in Parque Natural de Valderejo (Álava, Spain). Five geomorphosites have been inventoried and evaluated in Valderejo; for each site an assessment was conducted proposals are for management and use are provided for a few sites. Inteligencia emocional y educación universitaria: una aproximación / Emotional intelligence and higher education: a closer view

We seek to stablish the importance and attention that is being paid today to emotional education in high educational institutions: it's worth for life and the student's formation, for their personal and professional success. Also the effort that has been made in the educational institutions to empower these set of competences. In the same way we are interested in the perception of social abilities that is reaching the academic and professional social agents. Aside all of this, we'll determine the origin of emotional intelligence as a concept and the evolution of the academic concept of intelligence, from the times in which it was determined by the mastering of academic subjects, to those characterized by IC and emotional intelligence tests. This way, we could be able to see what has been the criteria employed for the measurement of human intellect and compare them, so we can ask ourselves effectively about the degree of our own, today's ideas in the subject. Having a clearer idea about the global and historical evolutions in this field, we'll have a better position from which to judge the quality and quantity of work aimed to the measurement of both de Intellectual Capacity and the interaction abilities.Se busca establecer la importancia y atención que se presta actualmente a la educación emocional en las instituciones superiores: su valor para la vida y formación de los alumnos y para su éxito personal y profesional, así como el esfuerzo que se ha estado haciendo en las instituciones educativas para potenciar este juego de competencias.
