Introduction: Crohn's Disease (CD) is an Inflamatory Bowell Disease (IBD), which consists on a chronic recurrent condition. It's incidence is rising worldwide in adult and pediatric population. About 25% of new diagnosis are children and epidemiologic data show an increase of the prevalence in pre puberty, with a prevalence peak in adolescence. The diagnosis in childhood brings a more aggressive and extensive character to the disease, and a faster development of complications related to this condition. The disease is frequently refractory to medical therapy, frequently requiring surgical intervention. Thus, the present article aims to approach the main surgical recommendations in CD, in pediatric age.
Methods: The research was carried out on the Pubmed platform. A total amount of 44 articles were collected, including cross-references.
Results/discussion: the most affected patients by the disease are adolescents, with a peak incidence at 15 years. In this age group, there is a strong influence of genetic factors such as the IBD1 (NOD2/CARD15) gene. This influence is characterized by a wider presentation and, besides the advances in pharmaceutical industry, there is still a lack of consensus about its influence of these advances in the reduction of surgical intervention. Even though the lack of medical treatment response and the growth restriction caused by this disease are important surgical influences, the main surgical indications remain the direct complications of the disease, mainly the perianal disease.
Conclusion: CD is a dynamic and extensive condition in pediatric age. Besides the advances in medical therapeutics, there hasn't been a significant reduction in the incidence of surgical intervention
Clinical Screening Prediction in the Portuguese National Health Service: Data Analysis, Machine Learning Models, Explainability and Meta-Evaluation
This paper presents an analysis of the calls made to the Portuguese National Health Contact Center (SNS24) during a three years period. The final goal was to develop a system to help nurse attendants select the appropriate clinical pathway (from 59 options) for each call. It examines several aspects of the calls distribution like age and gender of the user, date and time of the call and final referral, among others and presents comparative results for alternative classification models (SVM and CNN) and different data samples (three months, one and two years data models). For the task of selecting the appropriate pathway, the models, learned on the basis of the available data, achieved F1 values that range between 0.642 (3 months CNN model) and 0.783 (2 years CNN model), with SVM having a more stable performance (between 0.743 and 0.768 for the corresponding data samples). These results are discussed regarding error analysis and possibilities for explaining the system decisions. A final meta evaluation, based on a clinical expert overview, compares the different choices: the nurse attendants (reference ground truth), the expert and the automatic decisions (2 models), revealing a higher agreement between the ML models, followed by their agreement with the clinical expert, and minor agreement with the reference. This research work was funded by FCT—Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P, within the project SNS24.Scout.IA—Aplicação de Metodologias de Inteligência Artificial e Processamento de Linguagem Natural no Serviço de Triagem, Aconselhamento e Encaminhamento do SNS24 (ref. P-glycoprotein activation by 1-(propan-2-ylamino)-4-propoxy-9H-thioxanthen-9-one (TX5) in rat distal ileum: ex vivo and in vivo studies
In vitro studies showed that 1-(propan-2-ylamino)-4-propoxy-9H-thioxanthen-9-one (TX5) increases P-glycoprotein (P-gp) expression and activity in Caco-2 cells, preventing xenobiotic toxicity. The present study aimed at investigating TX5 effects on P-gp expression/activity using Wistar Han rats: a) in vivo, evaluating intestinal P-gp activity; b) ex vivo, evaluating P-gp expression in ileum brush border membranes (BBM) and P-gp activity in everted intestinal sacs; c) ex vivo, evaluating P-gp activity in everted intestinal sacs of the distal and proximal ileum. TX5 (30 mg/kg, b.w.), gavage, activated P-gp in vivo, given the significant decrease in the AUC of digoxin (0.25 mg/kg, b.w.). The efflux of rhodamine 123 (300 μM), a P-gp fluorescent substrate, significantly increased in TX5-treated everted sacs from the distal portion of the rat ileum, when P-gp activity was evaluated in the presence of TX5 (20 μM), an effect abolished by the P-gp inhibitor verapamil (100 μM). No increases on P-gp expression or activity were found in TX5-treated BBM of the distal ileum and everted distal sacs, respectively, 24 h after TX5 (10 mg/kg, b.w.) administration. In vivo, no differences were found on digoxin portal concentration between control (digoxin 0.025 mg/kg, b.w., intraduodenal) and TX5-treated (digoxin+TX5 20 μM, intraduodenal) rats. The observed discrepancies in digoxin results can be related to differences in TX5 dose administered and used methodologies. Thus, the results show that TX5 activates P-gp at the distal portion of the rat ileum, and, at the higher dose tested (30 mg/kg, b.w.), seems to modulate in vivo the AUC of P-gp substrates.Fil: Rocha-Pereira, Carolina. A review on lipase immobilization on hydrophobic supports incorporating systematic mapping principles
A review of the literature covering research on the immobilization of lipases on hydrophobic supports was performed using systematic mapping (SM) concepts. This approach consists of a rigorous review methodology used to catalog evidence, identify gaps at the frontier of knowledge, unknown trends, and research groups. Our results showed a wide variety of available lipases, including commercial, wild-type and recombinant strains. However, the most commonly used lipases are lipases from Thermomyces lanuginosus (TLL), Candida rugosa (CRL) or Rhizomucor miehei (RML) and lipase B from Candida antarctica (CALB). A wide variety of supports with different degrees of hydrophobicity were identified and the supports activated with a layer of octyl or octadecyl groups were the most used. The advantages of lipase immobilization on these supports were discussed. Among them, the immobilization, purification, stabilization and hyperactivation of lipases in a single step stand up. Moreover, problems related to lipase immobilization by interfacial activation were highlighted (mainly enzyme release). Strategies to overcome these problems include immobilization on heterofunctional supports or intermolecular crosslinking of enzymes immobilized by physical and/or chemical agents. The possibility of increasing the capacity of supports by lipase multilayer immobilization was also discussed. Finally, the structure, distribution of the network and the frequency of co-occurrence between lipases and supports were elucidated to determine the possible hotspots and hitherto unexplored advancement in knowledge. This work was funded by São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP, grant number 2016/10636-8), Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior–Brasil (CAPES, Finance Code 001), Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq, project numbers 405889/2016-0 and 308212/2017-7), Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación and Agencia Estatal de Investigación (Spanish Government) (project PID2022-136535OB-I00 and MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033/) and by FEDER A Way of Making Europe funds (project PID2021-123079OB-I00), and Generalitat Valenciana (CIPROM/2021/70)

Genetic diversity of pepper genotypes for use as ornamental plants
The commercialization of ornamental pepper trees constitutes an important source of income for the agricultural populations. Despite the great variability that exists, in Brazil few commercial varieties are used for this purpose. The presence of genetic diversity is the main criterion for a successful selection and progress in a breeding program. The objective of this study was to quantify the genetic diversity among pepper genotypes, aiming at their use in ornamentation, through the description of morpho-agronomic characteristics. 14 quantitative characteristics and seven qualitative characteristics related to plant, flower and fruit were evaluated in 29 pepper (Capsicum annuum) genotypes. Using the mixed model methodology and analysis of genetic diversity, genetic variability was verified between the genotypes. The genotypes were divided into seven groups of genetic similarity in terms of quantitative characteristics, three in terms of qualitative characteristics and five groups considering the characteristics together. Thus, the genetic variability of the genotypes can be exploited to produce superior combinations while.
Hemoperitoneum in a Cow with Lumbar Muscle Hemangiosarcoma
Background: Hemangiosarcoma is a malignant neoplasm of endothelial cells with an infiltrative growth pattern. Hemangiosarcomas are frequently reported in canines and rare in felines, sheep, goats, swine, horses and cattle. Few cases of hemangiosarcoma were reported in cattle. In the present report, we describe the clinicopathological findings of a bovine muscle hemangiosarcoma.Case: A 6-year-old, Girolando cow from the Dairy Cattle Sector of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ), Seropédica, presented sternal decubitus. Clinical signs were markedly pale mucous membranes, moderate dehydration, respiratory distress, and increased heart rate. The hematological examination revealed intense regenerative anemia. Due to the worsening of the clinical condition, the cow was submitted to euthanasia. The necropsy and collection of various fragments of organs were performed, which were sent to the “Setor de Anatomia Patológica” (SAP-UFRRJ). Tissues were fixed in 10 % buffered formalin, routinely processed for histology and stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin (HE). The external mucous membranes were markedly pale. Multifocal areas of 1.5 x 1.0 cm, irregular and dark red were observed dissecting the quadratus lumborum muscle (hemangiosarcoma) fibers. These neoplasms were associated with an extensive cruoric clot adhered to the muscle fibers. The extensive, red, friable mass measured approximately 76 x 55 x 20 cm on the serous surfaces of the organs of the peritoneal cavity (hemoperitoneum). The spleen was moderately reduced. The bone marrow was markedly pale. Histologically, it was observed that there was an extensive proliferation of endothelial cells in the quadratus lumbar muscle mass dissecting the epimysium and perimysium. Endothelial cells had moderate pleomorphism, organized in vascular channels and forming multifocally solid areas with a significant amount of eosinophilic fibrillar material (fibrin). Sections of muscle neoplasm were subjected to immunohistochemistry with anti-von Willebrand factor primary antibody, which showed a multifocal moderate cytoplasmic immunolabeling of neoplastic endothelial cells.Discussion: There are few reports of striated muscle hemangiosarcoma in cattle. Muscular hemangiosarcomas were reported in a 4-month-old calf in the left cervical trapezius muscle and a 6-year-old Holstein cow with left pelvic limb mass lateral and distal to the knee. Some reports presented hemangiosarcoma in the iliopsoas muscle, left cervical trapezius muscle, pelvic limb muscles and right cervical muscle of the bovine. In the presented report, hemoperitoneum occurred as a result of hemorrhages from muscle hemangiosarcoma. Other studies have demonstrated cavity hemorrhages in joint, pelvic, pleural and cranial cavities associated with hemangiosarcoma. Hemangiosarcoma with regenerative anemia must be distinguished from other diseases that cause anemia. The main differential diagnoses of bovine with anemia are vena cava syndrome, coumarin derivatives poisoning, acute poisoning by Pteridium spp., tick fever, anaplasmosis, babesiosis and trypanosomiasis. Hemangiosarcoma should be differentiated from other lesions as hemangioma, vascular tumor of lymphatic endothelium and perivascular wall tumors. Cases with poorly differentiated morphology should be submitted for immunohistochemistry. In the present hemangiosarcoma case, we have used the von Willebrand factor for immunohistochemistry diagnosis. Expression of angiogenic growth factors such as CD31, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) and angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) have also been used in the diagnosis of vascular proliferation lesions. Hemangiosarcoma in cattle should be included mainly in the differential diagnosis of diseases that cause acute anemia in cattle. Keywords: cattle, neoplasia, hemangiosarcoma, hemoperitoneum, anemia
Effect of Genetic Material and Rotation on the Properties of Charcoal
This study aimed to evaluate chemical properties and yield of charcoal from two Eucalyptus urophylla clones considering the first and second rotation of the wood. The study was carried out with material from Arcelor Mittal Jequitinhonha, with a mean age of 61.5 months. The values of fixed carbon, volatile materials, ash content, higher calorific value, gravimetric yield, liquid yield and gas yield were determined. The data were analyzed statistically by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and significant differences were compared by the Tukey test (p <0.05). The results showed significant differences for the fixed carbon contents (67% and 70.5%) and volatile materials (32% and 29%) of clones AEC 0182 and AEC 0296, respectively. The analysis of the results showed that both the first and second rotation woods have satisfactory characteristics for charcoal production and are not influenced by the effect of the rotations
