Research to date has identified various risk factors in the emergence of depressive disorders in adolescence. There are very few studies, however, which have analyzed the role of perceived emotional intelligence in depressive symptoms longitudinally during adolescence. This work aimed to analyze longitudinal relationships between perceived emotional intelligence and depressive symptoms in adolescence, developing an explanatory model of depression following a one-year follow-up. A longitudinal study was carried out with two waves separated by one year, with a sample of 714 Spanish adolescents. The instruments consisted of self-report measures of depressive symptoms and perceived emotional intelligence. Results underlined gender differences in depressive symptoms and emotional intelligence, and indicated that greater emotional intelligence was associated with a lower presence of depressive symptoms after a one year follow-up. A multiple partial mediation model was developed to explain longitudinally depressive symptoms based on perceived emotional intelligence skills and depressive symptoms. These contributions underscore the need to design programs to prevent depression in adolescence through the promotion of emotional intelligence.peer-reviewe

By means of bathymetric and side scan sonar records, the net circulation of sediments caused by tidal currents and waves in the outer Principal Channel of Bahía Blanca Estuary is inferred. On the northern coast of the studied area there are two harbours, Belgrano and Rosales, which are simultaneously affected by internal and external hydrosedimentological processes. Through this study, present and potential negative interactions between human activities and natural processes within the studied area are demonstrated. Fil: Cuadrado, Diana Graciela. In this paper, we consider a model in which fishing boats or firms share the stock of fish in a fishing ground. The catches made by each firm reduce the stock available for the rest of the firms, which directly affects their profits. We aim to quantify in a static framework the gain in welfare obtained by the firms if they decide to cooperate in order to attain an individually rational efficient outcome. One of the main results is that, both the incentives for the firms to cooperate and the minimum level of catches which permits any gain in welfare decrease as real wage increases. On the other hand, the greater the asymmetry among boats of firms, the more difficult it will be to reach any cooperative agreement.Resource /Energy Economics and Policy,

    Taste Masking of Bitter Drugs

Taste masking of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs) is critical in the development of solid oral dosage forms, since it is related to patient compliance, especially for pediatric populations. Therefore, it is essential to improve the existing methodologies and to develop new approaches that allow assessment of taste-masking efficacy. The current work focused on the production of taste-masked formulations of a bitter model drug substance and an appropriate excipient, using different co-precipitation processes: Stirred Reactor, Adaptive Focused Acoustics (AFA) technology and Microfluidization, for benchmarking purposes regarding taste masking properties. Thus, an experimental design of experiments was conducted to study the effect of different formulation variables (drug loading, feed solids concentration and solvent/antisolvent volume ratio) in the critical quality attributes of the spray-dried co-precipitated powders (drug’s solid state, morphology and particle size and dissolution performance). The encapsulation efficiency (EE) was then evaluated by using different dissolution methods and also surface characterization techniques (Scanning Electron Microscopy – Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDS) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS)). Formulations were taste masked using any of the processes disclosed in this work. One of the formulations produced by Microfluidization technology, was the best regarding encapsulation efficiency, presenting a lower drug release in simulated salivary fluid within the first 5 minutes and the best encapsulation efficiency estimated by means of XPS. This can be explained by a high shear rate mixture provided by Microfluidization technology. Moreover, the pH shifts dissolution results for specific formulations and a commercial product (coated tablet) revealed similar dissolution profiles, meaning that the solubility of the drug substance (in the stomach and the upper intestine) seems not to be impacted by the processes used. According with the taste masking assessment techniques, EDS analysis presented some limitations and, in this case, it was proved not to be adequate, contrary to XPS which results corroborated the dissolution ones

    Spin-orbit transitions in the N+^+(3PJA^3P_{J_A}) + H2_2 \rightarrow NH+^+(X2ΠX^2\Pi, 4Σ^4\Sigma^-)+ H(2S^2S) reaction, using adiabatic and mixed quantum-adiabatic statistical approaches

The cross section and rate constants for the title reaction are calculated for all the spin-orbit states of N+^+(3PJA^3P_{J_A}) using two statistical approaches, one purely adiabatic and the other one mixing quantum capture for the entrance channel and adiabatic treatment for the products channel. This is made by using a symmetry adapted basis set combining electronic (spin and orbital) and nuclear angular momenta in the reactants channel. To this aim, accurate {\it ab initio} calculations are performed separately for reactants and products. In the reactants channel, the three lowest electronic states (without spin-orbit couplings) have been diabatized, and the spin-orbit couplings have been introduced through a model localizing the spin-orbit interactions in the N+^+ atom, which yields accurate results as compared to {\it ab initio} calculations including spin-orbit couplings. For the products, eleven purely adiabatic spin-orbit states have been determined with {\it ab initio} calculations. The reactive rate constants thus obtained are in very good agreement with the available experimental data for several ortho-H2_2 fractions, assuming a thermal initial distribution of spin-orbit states. The rate constants for selected spin-orbit JAJ_A states are obtained, to provide a proper validation of the spin-orbit effects to obtain the experimental rate constants.Comment: 14 pages, 10 figures, submitted to J.
