Relação entre as concentrações plasmáticas e eritrocitárias de quinina em crianças com malária por Plasmodium falciparum não complicada em terapia via oral
We determined the relationship between plasma and red blood cell concentrations of quinine in children with uncomplicated falciparum malaria from an endemic area of Amazonian region. Quinine was determined by high performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet detection. In the steady state the ratio between plasma and red blood cell quinine concentration was 1.89 ± 1.25 ranging from 1.05 to 2.34. This result demonstrated that quinine do not concentrate in red blood cell of Brazilian children and characterize the absence of interracial difference in this relationship.
The role of extracellular vesicles during CNS development
© 2021 The Author(s). Published by Elsevier Ltd. This is an open access article under the CC BY license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/)With a diverse set of neuronal and glial cell populations, Central Nervous System (CNS) has one of the most complex structures in the body. Intercellular communication is therefore highly important to coordinate cell-to-cell interactions. Besides electrical and chemical messengers, CNS cells also benefit from another communication route, what is known as extracellular vesicles, to harmonize their interactions. Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) and their subtype exosomes are membranous particles secreted by cells and contain information packaged in the form of biomolecules such as small fragments of DNA, lipids, miRNAs, mRNAs, and proteins. They are able to efficiently drive changes upon their arrival to recipient cells. EVs actively participate in all stages of CNS development by stimulating neural cell proliferation, differentiation, synaptic formation, and mediating reciprocal interactions between neurons and oligodendrocyte for myelination process. The aim of the present review is to enlighten the presence and contribution of EVs at each CNS developmental milestone.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Reduction of blood nitric oxide levels is associated with clinical improvement of the chronic pelvic pain related to endometriosis
The objective of this prospective study was to determine the plasma levels of nitric oxide (NO) in women with chronic pelvic pain secondary to endometriosis (n=24) and abdominal myofascial pain syndrome (n=16). NO levels were measured in plasma collected before and 1 month after treatment. Pretreatment NO levels (μM) were lower in healthy volunteers (47.0±12.7) than in women with myofascial pain (64.2±5.0, P=0.01) or endometriosis (99.5±12.9, P<0.0001). After treatment, plasma NO levels were reduced only in the endometriosis group (99.5±12.9 vs 61.6±5.9, P=0.002). A correlation between reduction of pain intensity and reduction of NO level was observed in the endometriosis group [correlation = 0.67 (95%CI = 0.35 to 0.85), P<0.0001]. Reduction of NO levels was associated with an increase of pain threshold in this group [correlation = -0.53 (-0.78 to -0.14), P<0.0001]. NO levels appeared elevated in women with chronic pelvic pain diagnosed as secondary to endometriosis, and were directly associated with reduction in pain intensity and increase in pain threshold after treatment. Further studies are needed to investigate the role of NO in the pathophysiology of pain in women with endometriosis and its eventual association with central sensitization.484363369CONSELHO NACIONAL DE DESENVOLVIMENTO CIENTÍFICO E TECNOLÓGICO - CNPQSem informaçã
Reaction mechanisms in the 6Li+59Co system
The reactions induced by the weakly bound 6Li projectile interacting with the
intermediate mass target 59Co were investigated. Light charged particles
singles and - coincidence measurements were performed at the near
barrier energies E_lab = 17.4, 21.5, 25.5 and 29.6 MeV. The main contributions
of the different competing mechanisms are discussed. A statistical model
analysis, Continuum-Discretized Coupled-Channels calculations and two-body
kinematics were used as tools to provide information to disentangle the main
components of these mechanisms. A significant contribution of the direct
breakup was observed through the difference between the experimental sequential
breakup cross section and the CDCC prediction for the non-capture breakup cross
section.Comment: 30 pages, 8 figure
Reaction mechanisms for weakly-bound, stable nuclei and unstable, halo nuclei on medium-mass targets
An experimental overview of reactions induced by the stable, but weakly-bound
nuclei 6Li, 7Li and 9Be, and by the exotic, halo nuclei 6He, 8B, 11Be and 17F
on medium-mass targets, such as 58Ni, 59Co or 64Zn, is presented. Existing data
on elastic scattering, total reaction cross sections, fusion processes, breakup
and transfer channels are discussed in the framework of a CDCC approach taking
into account the breakup degree of freedom.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figures, Invited Talk given by C. Beck to the 10th

Literature review of mobile learning systems
This paper presents a research about the monotonic and failure behaviours of bolted joints made of thin plates of S350GD and S355MC steels grades, which are used for rack structures. A full factorial test matrix was performed considering two joints configurations (1+1 and 4+4 double shear bolted joints), two material thicknesses (2 and 3mm), three coatings (“black steel”, zinc coating, zinc plus paint) and two preload levels (25%×70%Fu and 70%Fu). Tests were performed under static monotonic loading until failure. Slip tests were also performed according to the EN 1090-2 standard to evaluate joint slip factors for the three material surface conditions. In addition to the experimental tests, numerical simulation of static tests were performed using elastoplastic material behaviour, based on Mises yield theory and isotropic hardening identified with experimental tensile testing data. The models were able to reproduce conveniently the ultimate loads of the joints and failure modes, including clamping and friction effects
