Diálogos metaficcionales e intermediales (II) entre Agustín Fernández Mallo y Enrique Vila-Matas

    Get PDF
The essay, dedicated to Darío Villanueva, one of the most important Spanish specialists in literary theory and comparative literature of the 20th century, explores in the first part his contribution to the research on metaliterature and metafiction in the Spanish contemporary novel of the decades of 1980-1990. His works establish the relationships of these concepts with postmodernity theories and with umberto Eco’s thesis in Il nome della rosa, Postille and other relevant essays of the Italian author. In the second part of the text, the aim is to apply these concepts of literary self-consciousness and reflexivity in the novel as a story-telling device in the work of one of the most relevant Spanish young writers of the 21st Century, Agustín Fernandez Mallo’s Nocilla Lab. In this sense, we will focus the ending sequence, written (and designed) in form of a comic book or graphic novel, in which the young author puts himself beside the more recognized Enrique Vila-Matas, as an allegoric and fictional reflection of Pierre Bourdieu’s theories about the literary field. The essay, dedicated to Darío Villanueva, one of the most important Spanish specialists in literary theory and comparative literature of the 20th century, explores in the first part his contribution to the research on metaliterature and metafiction in the Spanish contemporary novel of the decades of 1980-1990. This work reviews the most noteworthy Spanish novels of 2007. The article offers up a review of each novel, taking into account different thematic and formal aspects. Along with authors of large literary trajectories, readers will discover other who, through the sheer quality work alone, will delight them.

    Get PDF

Reducing spray drift by adapting the spraying equipment to the canopy shape in olive orchards with isolated trees

    Get PDF
The lack of specificity of the spraying equipment commonly used in olive orchards is a remarkable problem, for not allowing farmers to apply adjusted pesticide doses to their trees, making necessary to spray very high liquid volumes that increase the environmental pollution risk. In this context, three prototypes were specially developed to increase the application efficiency in olive orchards with isolated trees, which represent 98% of the olive harvested area in Spain.Postprint (published version

Developing strategies to reduce spray drift in pneumatic spraying in vineyards: Assessment of the parameters affecting droplet size in pneumatic spraying

    Get PDF
Pneumatic sprayers are widely used in vineyards due to their very fine droplet size, which makes the drift risk to become an important problem to be considered. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of the spout diameter at the release point on the spray droplet size and uniformity achieved for different liquid flow rates (LFR) and air flow rates (AFR).A test bench was developed to simulate a real pneumatic sprayer under laboratory conditions, and it was empirically adjusted to match the air pressure conditions as closely as possible to real working conditions. Two positions of insertion of the liquid hose, the conventional position (CP) and an alternative position (AP), were tested for three LFRs, 1.00, 1.64, and 2.67Lmin-1, and four AFRs, 0.280, 0.312, 0.345, and 0.376m3 s-1. The air speed decrease between the two insertion points of the liquid hose was measured. A Malvern SprayTec® instrument was used to measure the droplet size, and the D50, D10, and D90 parameter values were obtained. The relative SPAN factor (RSF) was also calculated. A model to predict variations in D50 was fitted using the aforementioned parameters. The results show that variations in the diameter of the spout significantly change the droplet size, producing a mean increase of 59.45% in D50 and similar increases in D10 and D90. The model developed to predict variations in D50 has a very high degree of accuracy (R2 =0.945). The relative decrease in the air speed along the spout did not present significant differences for the different airflow rates tested. The results of the study show that the droplet size produced in pneumatic spraying can be modified easily by varying the air spout dimensions. This should be taken into account by manufacturers from a design point of view.Postprint (author's final draft

The Role of Faults as Barriers in Confined Seismic Sequences: 2021 Seismicity in the Granada Basin (Betic Cordillera)

    Get PDF
Fault barriers are key structures for studying seismic hazard in regions of intense brittle deformation. The interaction between fault sets affects their seismogenic behavior, if some of them act as barriers. The Granada Basin, in the Betic Cordillera, is a region affected by shallow brittle deformation, as it was the scenario for the recent Granada 2021 seismic sequence. This seismicity presented a swarm behavior at the beginning of the sequence, followed by mainshock-aftershock features. Geological and gravity data presented here reveal that the basement is affected by two sets of NW-SE and NE-SW normal faults and intensely deformed by vertical NW-SE joints. Improved relocation of the Granada 2021 seismicity reveals a confined chimney-shape seismicity caused by the activity of a 2 km long NW-SE normal fault segment. The confinement of the sequence is associated with the NE-SW fault set acting as a barrier that restricts the rupture area, limiting the maximum magnitude, and favoring the recurrence of events with smaller magnitude. The chimney-shape of the seismic sequence suggests that the deformation is propagated vertically to the surface, facilitated by preexisting fractures. The shallow extensional deformation during the uplift of the central Betic Cordillera drove the activity of the local structures obliquely to the regional extensional trends, as evidenced by the seismic sequence. This multidisciplinary study improves the knowledge on the origin of the Granada Basin and underlies the important role of preexisting fractures on fault segmentation and seismic propagation, decreasing the seismic potential of this area.Spanish projects Evaluación de la Peligrosidad de Inestabilidades de Laderas Asociadas a Terremotos (CGL2015-65602-R AEI-FEDER)B-RNM-301-UGR18 (Junta de Andalucía/FEDER);P18-RT-3275 (Junta de Andalucía/FEDER)Programa Operativo FEDER Andalucía 2014–2020 – call made by the University of Jaén (Ref. 126344)POAIUJA 2021/2022 from the University of JaénAndalusian research groups RNM-148Andalusian research groups RNM-282Andalusian research groups RNM-37
