Improved Parameters and New Lensed Features for Q0957+561 from WFPC2 Imaging
New HST WFPC2 observations of the lensed double QSO 0957+561 will allow
improved constraints on the lens mass distribution and hence will improve the
derived value of H. We first present improved optical positions and
photometry for the known components of this lens. The optical separation
between the A and B quasar images agrees with VLBI data at the 10 mas level,
and the optical center of the primary lensing galaxy G1 coincides with the VLBI
source G' to within 10 mas. The best previous model for this lens (Grogin and
Narayan 1996) is excluded by these data and must be reevaluated.
Several new resolved features are found within 10\arcsec of G1, including an
apparent fold arc with two bright knots. Several other small galaxies are
detected, including two which may be multiple images of each other. We present

Conscientiousness is modified by genetic variation in catechol-O-methyltransferase to reduce symptom complaints in IBS patients
Background: Attention to and perception of physical sensations and somatic states can significantly influence reporting of complaints and symptoms in the context of clinical care and randomized trials. Although anxiety and high neuroticism are known to increase the frequency and severity of complaints, it is not known if other personality dimensions or genes associated with cognitive function or sympathetic tone can influence complaints. Genetic variation in catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) is associated with anxiety, personality, pain, and response to placebo treatment. We hypothesized that the association of complaint reporting with personality might be modified by variation in the COMT val158met genotype. Methods: We administered a standard 25-item complaint survey weekly over 3-weeks to a convenience sample of 187 irritable bowel syndrome patients enrolled in a placebo intervention trial and conducted a repeated measures analysis. Results: We found that complaint severity rating, our primary outcome, was negatively associated with the personality measures of conscientiousness (ÎČ = â0.31 SE 0.11, P = 0.003) and agreeableness (ÎČ = â0.38 SE 0.12, P = 0.002) and was positively associated with neuroticism (ÎČ = 0.24 SE 0.09, P = 0.005) and anxiety (ÎČ = 0.48 SE 0.09, P < 0.0001). We also found a significant interaction effect of COMT met alleles (ÎČ = â32.5 SE 14.1, P = 0.021). in patients genotyped for COMT val158met (N = 87) specifically COMT Ă conscientiousness (ÎČ = 0.73 SE 0.26, P = 0.0042) and COMT Ă anxiety (ÎČ = â0.42 SE 0.16, P = 0.0078) interaction effects. Conclusion: These findings potentially broaden our understanding of the factors underlying clinical complaints to include the personality dimension of conscientiousness and its modification by COMT

Carina OB Stars: X-ray Signatures of Wind Shocks and Magnetic Fields
The Chandra Carina Complex contains 200 known O- and B type stars. The
Chandra survey detected 68 of the 70 O stars and 61 of 127 known B0-B3 stars.
We have assembled a publicly available optical/X-ray database to identify OB
stars that depart from the canonical Lx/Lbol relation, or whose average X-ray
temperatures exceed 1 keV. Among the single O stars with high kT we identify
two candidate magnetically confined wind shock sources: Tr16-22, O8.5 V, and LS
1865, O8.5 V((f)). The O4 III(fc) star HD 93250 exhibits strong, hard, variable
X-rays, suggesting it may be a massive binary with a period of >30 days. The
visual O2 If* binary HD 93129A shows soft 0.6 keV and hard 1.9 keV emission
components, suggesting embedded wind shocks close to the O2 If* Aa primary, and
colliding wind shocks between Aa and Ab. Of the 11 known O-type spectroscopic
binaries, the long orbital-period systems HD 93343, HD 93403 and QZ Car have
higher shock temperatures than short-period systems such as HD 93205 and FO 15.
Although the X-rays from most B stars may be produced in the coronae of unseen,
low-mass pre-main-sequence companions, a dozen B stars with high Lx cannot be
explained by a distribution of unseen companions. One of these, SS73 24 in the
Treasure Chest cluster, is a new candidate Herbig Be star.Comment: To be published in a special issue of the Astrophysical Journal

Characterization and initial demonstration of in vivo efficacy of a novel heat-activated metalloenediyne anti-cancer agent
Background: Enediynes are anti-cancer agents that are highly cytotoxic due to their propensity for low thermal activation of radical generation. The diradical intermediate produced from Bergman cyclization of the enediyne moiety may induce DNA damage and cell lethality. The cytotoxicity of enediynes and difficulties in controlling their thermal cyclization has limited their clinical use. We recently showed that enediyne toxicity at 37 °C can be mitigated by metallation, but cytotoxic effects of 'metalloenediynes' on cultured tumor cells are potentiated by hyperthermia. Reduction of cytotoxicity at normothermia suggests metalloenediynes will have a large therapeutic margin, with cell death occurring primarily in the heated tumor. Based on our previous in vitro findings, FeSO4-PyED, an Fe co-factor complex of (Z)-N,N'-bis[1-pyridin-2-yl-meth-(E)-ylidene]oct-4-ene-2,6-diyne-1,8-diamine, was prioritized for further in vitro and in vivo testing in normal human melanocytes and melanoma cells.
Methods: Clonogenic survival, apopotosis and DNA binding assays were used to determine mechanisms of enhancement of FeSO4-PyED cytotoxicity by hyperthermia. A murine human melanoma xenograft model was used to assess in vivo efficacy of FeSO4-PyED at 37 or 42.5 °C.
Results: FeSO4-PyED is a DNA-binding compound. Enhancement of FeSO4-PyED cytotoxicity by hyperthermia in melanoma cells was due to Bergman cyclization, diradical formation, and increased apoptosis. Thermal enhancement, however, was not observed in melanocytes. FeSO4-PyED inhibited tumor growth when melanomas were heated during drug treatment, without inducing normal tissue damage.
Conclusion: By leveraging the unique thermal activation properties of metalloenediynes, we propose that localized moderate hyperthermia can be used to confine the cytotoxicity of these compounds to tumors, while sparing normal tissue
Effects of sex, age, and visits on receipt of preventive healthcare services: a secondary analysis of national data
BACKGROUND: Sex and age may exert a combined influence on receipt of preventive services with differences due to number of ambulatory care visits. METHODS: We used nationally representative data to determine weighted percentages and adjusted odds ratios of men and women stratified by age group who received selected preventive services. The presence of interaction between sex and age group was tested using adjusted models and retested after adding number of visits. RESULTS: Men were less likely than women to have received blood pressure screening (aOR 0.44;0.40â0.50), cholesterol screening (aOR 0.72;0.65â0.79), tobacco cessation counseling (aOR 0.66;0.55â0.78), and checkups (aOR 0.53;0.49â0.57). In younger age groups, men were particularly less likely than women to have received these services. In adjusted models, this observed interaction between sex and age group persisted only for blood pressure measurement (p = .016) and routine checkups (p < .001). When adjusting for number of visits, the interaction of age on receipt of blood pressure checks was mitigated but men were still overall less likely to receive the service. CONCLUSION: Men are significantly less likely than women to receive certain preventive services, and younger men even more so. Some of this discrepancy is secondary to a difference in number of ambulatory care visits

International meta-analysis of PTSD genome-wide association studies identifies sex- and ancestry-specific genetic risk loci.
The risk of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) following trauma is heritable, but robust common variants have yet to be identified. In a multi-ethnic cohort including over 30,000 PTSD cases and 170,000 controls we conduct a genome-wide association study of PTSD. We demonstrate SNP-based heritability estimates of 5-20%, varying by sex. Three genome-wide significant loci are identified, 2 in European and 1 in African-ancestry analyses. Analyses stratified by sex implicate 3 additional loci in men. Along with other novel genes and non-coding RNAs, a Parkinson's disease gene involved in dopamine regulation, PARK2, is associated with PTSD. Finally, we demonstrate that polygenic risk for PTSD is significantly predictive of re-experiencing symptoms in the Million Veteran Program dataset, although specific loci did not replicate. These results demonstrate the role of genetic variation in the biology of risk for PTSD and highlight the necessity of conducting sex-stratified analyses and expanding GWAS beyond European ancestry populations

A survey that can cover the sky in optical bands over wide fields to faint
magnitudes with a fast cadence will enable many of the exciting science
opportunities of the next decade. The Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST)
will have an effective aperture of 6.7 meters and an imaging camera with field
of view of 9.6 deg^2, and will be devoted to a ten-year imaging survey over
20,000 deg^2 south of +15 deg. Each pointing will be imaged 2000 times with
fifteen second exposures in six broad bands from 0.35 to 1.1 microns, to a
total point-source depth of r~27.5. The LSST Science Book describes the basic
parameters of the LSST hardware, software, and observing plans. The book
discusses educational and outreach opportunities, then goes on to describe a
broad range of science that LSST will revolutionize: mapping the inner and
outer Solar System, stellar populations in the Milky Way and nearby galaxies,
the structure of the Milky Way disk and halo and other objects in the Local
Volume, transient and variable objects both at low and high redshift, and the
properties of normal and active galaxies at low and high redshift. It then
turns to far-field cosmological topics, exploring properties of supernovae to
z~1, strong and weak lensing, the large-scale distribution of galaxies and
baryon oscillations, and how these different probes may be combined to

Ligand-Directed Self-Assembly of Organic-Semiconductor/Quantum-Dot Blend Films Enables Efficient Triplet Exciton-Photon Conversion
Blends comprising organic semiconductors and inorganic quantum dots (QDs) are relevant for many optoelectronic applications and devices. However, the individual components in organic-QD blends have a strong tendency to aggregate and phase-separate during film processing, compromising both their structural and electronic properties. Here, we demonstrate a QD surface engineering approach using electronically active, highly soluble semiconductor ligands that are matched to the organic semiconductor host material to achieve well-dispersed inorganicâorganic blend films, as characterized by X-ray and neutron scattering, and electron microscopies. This approach preserves the electronic properties of the organic and QD phases and also creates an optimized interface between them. We exemplify this in two emerging applications, singlet-fission-based photon multiplication (SF-PM) and tripletâtriplet annihilation-based photon upconversion (TTA-UC). Steady-state and time-resolved optical spectroscopy shows that triplet excitons can be transferred with near unity efficiently across the organicâinorganic interface, while the organic films maintain efficient SF (190% yield) in the organic phase. By changing the relative energy between organic and inorganic components, yellow upconverted emission is observed upon 790 nm NIR excitation. Overall, we provide a highly versatile approach to overcome longstanding challenges in the blending of organic semiconductors with QDs that have relevance for many optical and optoelectronic applications
LSST: from Science Drivers to Reference Design and Anticipated Data Products
(Abridged) We describe here the most ambitious survey currently planned in
the optical, the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope (LSST). A vast array of
science will be enabled by a single wide-deep-fast sky survey, and LSST will
have unique survey capability in the faint time domain. The LSST design is
driven by four main science themes: probing dark energy and dark matter, taking
an inventory of the Solar System, exploring the transient optical sky, and
mapping the Milky Way. LSST will be a wide-field ground-based system sited at
Cerro Pach\'{o}n in northern Chile. The telescope will have an 8.4 m (6.5 m
effective) primary mirror, a 9.6 deg field of view, and a 3.2 Gigapixel
camera. The standard observing sequence will consist of pairs of 15-second
exposures in a given field, with two such visits in each pointing in a given
night. With these repeats, the LSST system is capable of imaging about 10,000
square degrees of sky in a single filter in three nights. The typical 5
point-source depth in a single visit in will be (AB). The
project is in the construction phase and will begin regular survey operations
by 2022. The survey area will be contained within 30,000 deg with
, and will be imaged multiple times in six bands, ,
covering the wavelength range 320--1050 nm. About 90\% of the observing time
will be devoted to a deep-wide-fast survey mode which will uniformly observe a
18,000 deg region about 800 times (summed over all six bands) during the
anticipated 10 years of operations, and yield a coadded map to . The
remaining 10\% of the observing time will be allocated to projects such as a
Very Deep and Fast time domain survey. The goal is to make LSST data products,
including a relational database of about 32 trillion observations of 40 billion
