Physical Education Teachers\u27 Experiences With Remote Instruction During The Initial Phase Of The Covid-19 Pandemic
This study investigated physical education (PE) teachers\u27 experiences with remote instruction in the United States during the initial outbreak of COVID-19. PE teachers (n = 4,362) from all 50 states completed a survey identifying their experiences with remote instruction in May, 2020. Survey responses were analyzed by geographic region, district type, and school level. Teachers reported having students submit assignments (51% yes), using video instruction (37% yes), being less effective when instructing remotely (20% yes), and emphasizing student outcomes focused on health-related fitness (32% yes), and physical activity value/ enjoyment (43% yes). Access to technology (40% yes) and required student assignments (43% yes) were lowest among teachers from the South. Rural teachers reported the least access to technology (37% yes) and rated themselves as least effective (24% yes). Secondary level teachers reported the highest percentage of required assignments (84% yes). Teachers\u27 responses identify unique challenges to delivering equitable and effective remote PE instruction

An external link to the publisher’s copy is included.Background: Chronological age, as recorded by registration of birth date, is referred to throughout an individual's life. This information is relevant in medical and dental practice for evaluating developmental progress, for educational purposes, and in legal matters, particularly in the application of criminal law. The absence of birth date information raises particular concerns, and estimates of chronological age are often required. Standards of dental maturation may be used to estimate age, but they have been shown to be gender and population sensitive. Methods: The revised Demirjian' system of dental age estimation was applied to a sample of 615 South Australian children in order to assess its accuracy. Results: The results of our study have shown that the Demirjian system is of limited accuracy when used to estimate the age of South Australian children. A conceptual design study for a two-dimensional, electronically scanned thinned array radiometer
A conceptual design for the Two-Dimensional, Electronically Steered Thinned Array Radiometer (ESTAR) is described. This instrument is a synthetic aperture microwave radiometer that operates in the L-band frequency range for the measurement of soil moisture and ocean salinity. Two auxiliary instruments, an 8-12 micron, scanning infrared radiometer and a 0.4-1.0 micron, charge coupled device (CCD) video camera, are included to provided data for sea surface temperature measurements and spatial registration of targets respectively. The science requirements were defined by Goddard Space Flight Center. Instrument and the spacecraft configurations are described for missions using the Pegasus and Taurus launch vehicles. The analyses and design trades described include: estimations of size, mass and power, instrument viewing coverage, mechanical design trades, structural and thermal analyses, data and communications performance assessments, and cost estimation

Mass Transfer Testing of a 12.5-cm Rotor Centrifugal Contactor
TRUEX mass transfer tests were performed using a single stage commercially available 12.5 cm centrifugal contactor and stable cerium (Ce) and europium (Eu). Test conditions included throughputs ranging from 2.5 to 15 Lpm and rotor speeds of 1750 and 2250 rpm. Ce and Eu extraction forward distribution coefficients ranged from 13 to 19. The first and second stage strip back distributions were 0.5 to 1.4 and .002 to .004, respectively, throughout the dynamic test conditions studied. Visual carryover of aqueous entrainment in all organic phase samples was estimated at < 0.1 % and organic carryover into all aqueous phase samples was about ten times less. Mass transfer efficiencies of = 98 % for both Ce and Eu in the extraction section were obtained over the entire range of test conditions. The first strip stage mass transfer efficiencies ranged from 75 to 93% trending higher with increasing throughput. Second stage mass transfer was greater than 99% in all cases. Increasing the rotor speed from 1750 to 2250 rpm had no significant effect on efficiency for all throughputs tested

Clean-in-Place and Reliability Testing of a Commercial 12.5 cm Annular Centrifugal Contactor at the INL
The renewed interest in advancing nuclear energy has spawned the research of advanced technologies for recycling nuclear fuel. A significant portion of the advanced fuel cycle includes the recovery of selected actinides by solvent extraction methods utilizing centrifugal contactors. Although the use of centrifugal contactors for solvent extraction is widely known, their operation is not without challenges. Solutions generated from spent fuel dissolution contain unknown quantities of undissolved solids. A majority of these solids will be removed via various methods of filtration. However, smaller particles are expected to carry through to downstream solvent extraction processes and equipment. In addition, solids/precipitates brought about by mechanical or chemical upsets are another potential area of concern. During processing, particulate captured in the rotor assembly by high centrifugal forces eventually forms a cake-like structure on the inner wall introducing balance problems and negatively affecting phase separations. One of the features recently developed for larger engineering scale Annular Centrifugal Contactors (ACCs) is the Clean-In-Place (CIP) capability. Engineered spray nozzles were installed into the hollow central rotor shaft in all four quadrants of the rotor assembly. This arrangement allows for a very convenient and effective method of solids removal from within the rotor assembly

Hydraulic and Clean-in-Place Evaluations for a 12.5 cm Annular Centrifugal Contactor at the INL Troy G. Garn, Dave H. Meikrantz, Nick R. Mann, Jack D. Law, Terry A. Todd Idaho National Laboratory Commercially available, Annular Centrifugal Contactors (ACC) are currently being evaluated for processing dissolved nuclear fuel solutions to selectively partition integrated elements using solvent extraction technologies. These evaluations include hydraulic and clean-in-place (CIP) testing of a commercially available 12.5 cm unit. Data from these evaluations is used to support design of future nuclear fuel reprocessing facilities. Hydraulic testing provides contactor throughput performance data on two-phase systems for a wide range of operating conditions. Hydraulic testing results on a simple two-phase oil and water system followed by a 30 % Tributyl phosphate in N-dodecane / nitric acid pair are reported. Maximum total throughputs for this size contactor ranged from 20 to 32 liters per minute without significant other phase carryover. A relatively new contactor design enhancement providing Clean-in-Place capability for ACCs was also investigated. Spray nozzles installed into the central rotor shaft allow the rotor internals to be cleaned, offline. Testing of the solids capture of a diatomaceous earth/water slurry feed followed by CIP testing was performed. Solids capture efficiencies of >95% were observed for all tests and short cold water cleaning pulses proved successful at removing solids from the rotor
Radio observations of ZwCl 2341.1+0000: a double radio relic cluster
Context: Hierarchal models of large scale structure (LSS) formation predict
that galaxy clusters grow via gravitational infall and mergers of (smaller)
mass concentrations, such as clusters and galaxy groups. Diffuse radio
emission, in the form of radio halos and relics, is found in clusters
undergoing a merger, indicating that shocks or turbulence associated with the
merger are capable of accelerating electrons to highly relativistic energies.
Here we report on radio observations of ZwCl 2341.1+0000, a complex merging
structure of galaxies located at z=0.27, using Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope
(GMRT) observations.
Aims: The main aim of the observations is to study the nature of the diffuse
radio emission in the galaxy cluster ZwCl 2341.1+0000.
Methods: We have carried out GMRT 610, 241, and 157 MHz continuum
observations of ZwCl 2341.1+0000. The radio observations are combined with
X-ray and optical data of the cluster.
Results: The GMRT observations show the presence of a double peripheral radio
relic in the cluster ZwCl 2341.1+0000. The spectral index is -0.49 \pm 0.18 for
the northern relic and -0.76 \pm 0.17 for the southern relic respectively. We
have derived values of 0.48-0.93 microGauss for the equipartition magnetic
field strength. The relics are probably associated with an outwards traveling

Single-cell RNA sequencing uncovers the nuclear decoy lincRNA PIRAT as a regulator of systemic monocyte immunity during COVID-19
The systemic immune response to viral infection is shaped by master transcription fac-tors, such as NF-κB, STAT1, or PU.1. Although long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs)have been suggested as important regulators of transcription factor activity, their contri-butions to the systemic immunopathologies observed during SARS-CoV-2 infectionhave remained unknown. Here, we employed a targeted single-cell RNA sequencingapproach to reveal lncRNAs differentially expressed in blood leukocytes during severeCOVID-19. Our results uncover the lncRNA PIRAT (PU.1-induced regulator of alar-min transcription) as a major PU.1 feedback-regulator in monocytes, governing the pro-duction of the alarmins S100A8/A9, key drivers of COVID-19 pathogenesis. Knockoutand transgene expression, combined with chromatin-occupancy profiling, characterizedPIRATasanucleardecoyRNA,keepingPU.1frombindingtoalarminpromotersandpromoting its binding to pseudogenes in naïve monocytes. NF-κB–dependent PIRATdown-regulation during COVID-19 consequently releases a transcriptional brake, fuelingalarmin production. Alarmin expression is additionally enhanced by the up-regulation ofthe lncRNA LUCAT1, which promotes NF-κB–dependentgeneexpressionattheexpenseof targets of the JAK-STAT pathway. Our results suggest a major role of nuclear noncod-ing RNA networks in systemic antiviral responses to SARS-CoV-2 in humans
