They sometimes contain elegant perspectives of presentation made by the architect in its day to illustrate his projects. However, his travel sketches have been hardly studied and, to the best of our knowledge, they have not yet been analyzed in a specialized paper. The present study has the aim to set some of these sketches, currently housed in the Library Digital Collections of the University of California in Los Angeles, in context and make them public.Montes Serrano, C.; Linares García, F. From the review of two areas of relative state / indigenous peoples, territoriality, mining and energy projects and consultation, is to analyze the progress, setbacks and dissections lived in this relationshipduring the period 1990-2013, to contribute to the discussion of this problem in other countries experiencing similar circumstancesin Latin America. Of particular importance is the case of Ecuador to the constitutions of 1998 and 2008, in which the multiethnic and multicultural nature of the Ecuadorian State acknowledged at the first, and the plurinational and intercultural character in the second. Likewise, the indigenous movement since its emergence as an actor in national politics since 1990, has not only been a pioneer and leader in the region, but has been challenger extractivismo process carried outby the state.

In these pages we will carry out a study and comprehensive assessment of the fortifications of two archaic Phoenician enclaves located in two geographical areas of maximum interest for the study of Colonial presence in Iberia: the Cerro del Castillo (Chiclana de la Frontera, Cadiz) and the Cabezo Pequeño del Estaño (Guardamar del Segura , Alicante). Both examples are, so far, the only known on occident presenting casemate-walls and Phoenician modulation. This type of fortification is developed in the coastal environments of Syrian-Palestinian from the 12th century B.C. and they were moved to the extreme West during the 8th century BC, at a time where the Phoenicians needed a flexible, almost immediate and very effective architecture, both militarily and for storage

Incidence, risk factors, and evolution of venous thromboembolic events in patients diagnosed with pancreatic carcinoma and treated with chemotherapy on an outpatient basis.

Background Pancreatic carcinoma is one of the tumors associated with a higher risk for thromboembolic events, with incidence rates ranging from 5% to 41% in previous retrospective series. Patients and methods We conducted a retrospective study in eleven Spanish hospitals that included 666 patients diagnosed with pancreatic carcinoma (any stage) between 2008 and 2011 and treated with chemotherapy. The main objective was to evaluate the incidence of venous thromboembolic events (VTE) in this population, as well as potential risk factors for thrombosis. The impact of VTE on mortality was also assessed. Results With a median follow-up of 9.3 months, the incidence of VTE was 22.1%; 52% were diagnosed incidentally. Our study was unable to confirm the ability of the Khorana score to discriminate between patients in the intermediate or high risk category for thrombosis. The presence of VTE proved to be an independent prognostic factor associated with increased risk of death (HR 2.39, 95% CI 1.96–2.92). Symptomatic events correlated with higher mortality than asymptomatic events (HR 1.72; 95% CI, 1.21–2.45; p = 0.002), but incidental VTE, including visceral vein thrombosis (VVT), negatively affected survival compared to patients without VTE. Subjects who developed VTE within the first 3 months of diagnosis of pancreatic carcinoma had lower survival rates than those with VTE after 3 months (HR 1.92, 95% CI 1.30–2.84; p<0.001). Conclusions Pancreatic carcinoma is associated with a high incidence of VTE, which, when present, correlates with worse survival, even when thrombosis is incidental. Early onset VTE has a particularly negative impact.post-print1290 K

Tourism activity is highly sensitive to any situation that affects the safety of tourists. Through the attacks perpetrated in tourist destinations, terrorism has been given wide coverage in the media and has found a tool to pressure the governments of the affected countries. The media play a key role in transmitting events related to terrorism. This research studies the blight of terrorism in the tourist panorama of several countries and destinations. An analysis of the influence of the media on society and the interests related to the diffusion of this news is carried out. The research is conducted through a documentary analysis of news and statistical sources. This study shows that the media selects the news related to terrorism based on geographic, cultural and economic affinity; reports of European attacks tend to portray them as one-off occurrences that are under control and that most of the terrorist attacks occur outside the western area

The aim of this work is to present a new circuit for the real-time monitoring the processes of cellular growth and differentiation of skeletal myoblast cell cultures. An impedance spectroscopy Oscillation-Based technique is proposed for the test circuit, converting the biological system into a voltage oscillator, and avoiding the use of very high performance circuitry or equipment. This technique proved to be successful in the monitoring of cell cultures growth levels and could be useful for determining the degree of differentiation achieved, of practical implications in tissue engineering.Ministerio de Economía y Competitividad TEC2013-46242-C3-1-

Influence of liquid-to-biogas ratio and alkalinity on the biogas upgrading performance in a demo scale algal-bacterial photobioreactor

    Get PDF
The influence of the liquid-to-biogas ratio (L/G) and alkalinity on methane quality was evaluated in a 11.7 m3 outdoors horizontal semi-closed tubular photobioreactor interconnected to a 45-L absorption column (AC). CO2 concentrations in the upgraded methane ranged from <0.1 to 9.6% at L/G of 2.0 and 0.5, respectively, with maximum CH4 concentrations of 89.7% at a L/G of 1.0. Moreover, an enhanced CO2 removal (mediating a decrease in CO2 concentration from 9.6 to 1.2%) and therefore higher CH4 contents (increasing from 88.0 to 93.2%) were observed when increasing the alkalinity of the AC cultivation broth from 42 ± 1 mg L−1 to 996 ± 42 mg L−1. H2S was completely removed regardless of the L/G or the alkalinity in AC. The continuous operation of the photobioreactor with optimized operating parameters resulted in contents of CO2 (<0.1%–1.4%), H2S (<0.7 mg m−3) and CH4 (94.1%–98.8%) complying with international regulations for methane injection into natural gas grids.Peer ReviewedPostprint (published version

Spectral Relative Attenuation of Solar Radiation through a Skylight Focused on Preventive Conservation: Museo De L'almoina in Valencia (Spain) Case Study

[EN] The aim of the present study was to evaluate the relative attenuation of VIS, UV and NIR solar radiation through a large pond skylight into the interior of the l'Almoina Archaeological Museum (Valencia, Spain), and to determine how relative attenuation varied throughout the year and time of day. Measurements were taken at 9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. during July 2019 and January 2020. Relative attenuation values were obtained from the measurement of spectral irradiance in the exterior and at different points in the interior by means of two Ocean Optics spectrometers: HR4000CG-UV-NIR for VIS (400-700 nm) and NIR (700-1000 nm) bands, and FLAME-S-UV-VIS for UV-A (280-315 nm) and UV-A (315-400 nm) bands. The central points of the skylight had relative attenuation at 520 nm, reaching a value of 50% in summer at noon and 38% in the afternoon. At noon in winter, there were two relative attenuation peaks above 33% at 520 nm and at 900 nm. For mean relative attenuation, in the UVB range, the highest relative attenuation (20%) was inside the ruins in the morning in both summer and winter, and the UVA band relative attenuation was quite constant throughout the museum, but lower than that of the UVB band, in the range 0-3%.Serrano, M.; Baró Zarzo, JL.; Moreno, J.; García Diego, FJ.
