After having surveyed several narrative, poetic and dramatic works that have dealt with the saga, the paper identifies which elements (and under what conditions) have been privileged at a given moment

Distribution and Socio-spatial Segregation of cruise ship workers in Cozumel, Mexico

The cruise industry is one of the most profitable businesses in the world having a constant growth since the 1980’s. However, it is important to mention that this success has been reached in part due to the workforce in the vessels, better known as cruise ship crew members. As well as any other type of tourism, visitors have several effects on ports of call when vessels berth in ports of call. But even when there is knowledge on the effects of cruise tourism in the destinations (mainly caused by tourists), there is a scarcity of literature in terms of issues related to the cruise ship staff on land.In addition to the above, information about the activities and behaviour of the cruise workers, the knowledge of their specific distribution and socio-spatial segregation according to their hierarchies and nationalities during their free time in ports of call is practically null. Therefore, the aim of this research work is to point out the distribution of cruise ship workers in order to demonstrate their segregation in the Island of Cozumel, Mexico, according to the nation they come from and their position at work.Findings demonstrate that there are 79 different sites visited by crew members in Cozumel Island. It has also been identified that their distribution and socio-spatial segregation on the island is related to their hierarchies at work and nationalities, which could lead to a remarkable socioeconomic influence during their free time in the destination.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to identify the influence of readiness of change for physical activity (PA), sociodemographic factors, lifestyle and physical activity status (PAS) on perceived barriers among Spanish university students. Participants: Seven hundred and seventy two (n = 772) men and women ages 17 - 39 at a north-west regional university in Spain participated in the study. Methods: The International Physical Activity Questionnaire, the States of Change for Physical Activity Behaviour Questionnaire and the Self-perceived Barriers for Physical Activity Questionnaire were used. Description, correlation and multiple regression analyses were completed. Results: Participants self-perceived low average-score barriers (2.6 ± 1.4 over 10.0). The 3-higher scores barriers corresponded to “too much work”; “lack of time for exercise” and “laziness”. Gender, PAS and self-perceived health were shown to be associated with perceived barriers. Conclusions: University institutions should consider those factors that predict barriers to PA to develop effective intervention programs

System for monitoring the wellness state of people in domestic environments employing emoticon-based HCI

[EN] Wellness state is affected by the habitability state of the domestic environment. Monitoring it can help to discover the causes of a low wellness levels aiding people in the improvement of their quality of life. In this paper, we propose a system to monitor the wellness state of people utilizing Likert¿s scale to determine the state of the user through an emoticon-based human¿computer interaction. The system is intended for domestic environments and measures the habitability conditions of the dwelling (such as temperature, humidity, luminosity and noise) employing sensors. An algorithm is designed in order to establish how to measure those conditions and to calculate the statistics that allows tracking their progress. The obtained information is presented to the user to compare his/her wellness state with the habitability conditions. Measures in a real domestic environment were performed in order to determine the configuration of our system. The energy efficiency of the algorithm provides an improvement between 99.36 and 99.62% in the energy consumption depending on the selected parameters. This work has been partially supported by the “Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación”, through the “Plan Nacional de I+D+i 2008–2011” and by the “Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte”, through the grand “Ayudas para contratos predoctorales de Formación del Profesorado Universitario FPU14/02953”.García-García, L.; Parra-Boronat, L.; Romero Martínez, JO.; Lloret, J. Get PDF
