A novel partial reconfiguration methodology for FPGAs of multichip systems

    Get PDF
A number of SRAM-based field programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) allow for partial reconfiguration (PR). Partial reconfiguration can be used to maximize the resource utilization in these FPGAs. Any large design usually consists of many modular features that are never used all concurrently. An FPGA does not need to implement all these features at the same time provided that it can be reconfigured in a reasonable amount of time to implement the features that can be used simultaneously. The use of partial reconfiguration is ideal in this case, since it allows for just the features that are no longer needed to be replaced by the newly required features. Current methodologies use both external and self partial reconfiguration for this purpose. On mature multichip (MC) systems that have not made use of the PR features of their SRAM-based FPGA(s), however, these methodologies would require changes in the existing FPGA configuration protocol and/or associated hardware outside the array. This thesis presents a novel methodology that makes PR features available to these systems for the purpose of maximizing their FPGA resources without the modifications required by the current methodologies. The proposed methodology reuses an existing data interface to send the PR data to the array and directs this data to the FPGA’s internal configuration port. A prototype of this methodology is demonstrated on a commercial color space conversion (CSC) engine design using two Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGAs. In addition, the effectiveness of the proposed methodology is quantified by comparing the FPGA resource utilization of the original CSC engine design and that of the partial reconfigurable prototype above. Finally, since the application of partial reconfiguration inherently adds latency to the output of any design, the effects of the proposed methodology on the performance of the CSC engine are also studied and reported. This information will show that reconfiguring and loading the prototyped CSC engine in addition to processing a full image in it takes 683ms, which is within the target of one second

Analysis of international information in Spanish digital newspaper

    Get PDF
The following research analyzes the news that were published on the international section of digital Spanish newspapers in order to know which events can be converted into present time information, the areas that have media presence, and the kind of sources that are used to elaborate informative pieces. The methodology consisted on a corpus formed by news that were published on elpais.es international section (n=1.235) during the first semester of 2012. This study tries to show which international information is published by Spanish newspapers, and the way those media treat that reality informatively

A Dual Stimuli Responsive Supramolecular Gel Provides Insulin Hydrolysis Protection and Redox-Controlled Release of Actives

    Get PDF
Two supramolecular hydrogelators containing a central disulfide moiety and terminal carboxylic acid groups are studied. On the one hand, the hydrogels are responsive to a reductive environment, which transforms the disulfide unit to the corresponding thiols. On the other hand, the hydrogels show pH response associated with the presence of carboxylic acid units. Gels are formed at pH below ≈4 while at higher pH values, ionization of the gela-tors provokes gel disassembly. The properties of the gel are exploited for the release, as a proof of concept, of Bromophenol Blue in the presence of the reducing species tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine hydrochloride. Additionally, insulin is loaded into the hydrogels and protected from hydrolysis with simu-lated gastric fluid containing pepsin. Quantitative release of unaltered insulin, checked with an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay colorimetric assay, is observed upon treatment with pH 7.4 buffer. This behavior would permit the use of the new hydrogels for oral insulin deliver

Module categories over finite pointed tensor categories

We study exact module categories over the representation categories of finite-dimensional quasi-Hopf algebras. As a consequence, we classify exact module categories over some families of pointed tensor categories with cyclic group of invertible objets of order p, where p is a prime number.

    Get PDF
Timber, despite being a material that has been used for construction over the years, has lost some relevance in recent decades due to uncertainty of its mechanical properties. With the technology of laminated elements, the use of wood has re-emerged in the structure processes, since the implementation of beams of any length, shape and section. Based on its lightness and resistance, all the characteristics make it a very versatile material for engineering. It´s study and application in our country is not common due the lack of knowledge and technology. This project focuses on the manufacture and determination of mechanical properties of glue laminated timber beams for structural purposes in 3 different Ecuadorian forest classes. The project´s first objective is the determination and manufacture methods of beams based on current literature. For this, key elements for the fabrication of a single compact element are defined; such as the type of wood, gluing of lamellae and pressing schedule. In the second part, the study focuses on obtaining mechanical properties such as bending and stiffness of the beams made from continuous and finger jointed laminas. In the final stage, the data obtained from the laboratory tests is compared to determine the percentage of strength loss from the finger joint. Finally, these results are analyzed, to consider the use of glue laminated timber beams, with a lower implementation costs, in the constructive processes.Ingeniero CivilCuenc
