    Directed self-assembly of trimeric DNA-bindingchiral miniprotein helicates

    We propose that peptides are highly versatile platforms for the precise design of supramolecular metal architectures, and particularly, for the controlled assembly of helicates. In this context, we show that the bacteriophage T4 Fibritin foldon (T4Ff) can been engineered on its N-terminus with metal-chelating 2,2′-bipyridine units that stereoselectively assemble in the presence of Fe(II) into parallel, three-stranded peptide helicates with preferred helical orientation. Modeling studies support the proposed self-assembly and the stability of the final helicate.     Analysis of volatile compounds in three unifloral native Chilean honeys

    Abstract. Three unifloral honeys were identified by the pronounced presence of specific compounds by means of sensorial analysis and SPME-GC-MS. Smoky and resinous ('propolis') odors characterized unifloral "quillay" (Quillaja saponaria) honey. "Corontillo" (Escallonia pulverulenta) honey was characterized by caramel and vanillin aromas, and "ulmo" (Eucryphia cordifolia) honey by having an anise scent with a floral jasmine note. Safranal was a useful marker for "corontillo" honey. Isophorone and cetoisophorone were the distinctive compounds of unifloral "ulmo" honey. In "quillay" honeys, megastigmatrienone, 2-p-hydroxyphenylalcohol and minor quantities of β-pinene and linalool oxide were correlated with their sensory properties such as resinous. Tres mieles monoflorales se identificaron por la presencia notable de compuestos específicos usando análisis sensorial y SPME-GC-MS. Los olores a humo y a resina (o a propóleos) tipificaron la miel de quillay (Quillaja saponaria). La miel de corontillo (Escallonia pulverulenta) se caracterizó por sus aromas a caramelo y a vainilla, y la miel de ulmo (Eucryphia cordifolia) por su fragancia anisada con una nota floral de jazmin. Safranal constituyó un marcador útil para la miel de corontillo, mientras que isoforona y cetoisoforona fueron los compuestos distintivos de la miel monofloral de ulmo. En las mieles de quillay se correlacionaron megastigmatrienona, 2-p-hidroxifenilalcohol y las trazas de β-pineno y óxido de linalool con sus propiedades organolépticas tales como resinosa.     Close companions around young stars

    Multiplicity is a fundamental property that is set early during stellar lifetimes, and it is a stringent probe of the physics of star formation. The distribution of close companions around young stars is still poorly constrained by observations. We present an analysis of stellar multiplicity derived from APOGEE-2 spectra obtained in targeted observations of nearby star-forming regions. This is the largest homogeneously observed sample of high-resolution spectra of young stars. We developed an autonomous method to identify double lined spectroscopic binaries (SB2s). Out of 5007 sources spanning the mass range of \sim0.05--1.5 \msun, we find 399 binaries, including both RV variables and SB2s. The mass ratio distribution of SB2s is consistent with a uniform for q0.95q0.95. The period distribution is consistent with what has been observed in close binaries (<10<10 AU) in the evolved populations. Three systems are found to have qq\sim0.1, with a companion located within the brown dwarf desert. There are not any strong trends in the multiplicity fraction (MF) as a function of cluster age from 1 to 100 Myr. There is a weak dependence on stellar density, with companions being most numerous at Σ30\Sigma_*\sim30 stars/pc2^{-2}, and decreasing in more diffuse regions. Finally, disk-bearing sources are deficient in SB2s (but not RV variables) by a factor of \sim2; this deficit is recovered by the systems without disks. This may indicate a quick dispersal of disk material in short-period equal mass systems that is less effective in binaries with lower qq.Comment: 25 pages, 20 figures. Accepted to A

    Wisdom of groups promotes cooperation in evolutionary social dilemmas

    Whether or not to change strategy depends not only on the personal success of each individual, but also on the success of others. Using this as motivation, we study the evolution of cooperation in games that describe social dilemmas, where the propensity to adopt a different strategy depends both on individual fitness as well as on the strategies of neighbors. Regardless of whether the evolutionary process is governed by pairwise or group interactions, we show that plugging into the "wisdom of groups" strongly promotes cooperative behavior. The more the wider knowledge is taken into account the more the evolution of defectors is impaired. We explain this by revealing a dynamically decelerated invasion process, by means of which interfaces separating different domains remain smooth and defectors therefore become unable to efficiently invade cooperators. This in turn invigorates spatial reciprocity and establishes decentralized decision making as very beneficial for resolving social dilemmas.Comment: 8 two-column pages, 7 figures; accepted for publication in Scientific Report

    Optimal interdependence between networks for the evolution of cooperation

    Recent research has identified interactions between networks as crucial for the outcome of evolutionary games taking place on them. While the consensus is that interdependence does promote cooperation by means of organizational complexity and enhanced reciprocity that is out of reach on isolated networks, we here address the question just how much interdependence there should be. Intuitively, one might assume the more the better. However, we show that in fact only an intermediate density of sufficiently strong interactions between networks warrants an optimal resolution of social dilemmas. This is due to an intricate interplay between the heterogeneity that causes an asymmetric strategy flow because of the additional links between the networks, and the independent formation of cooperative patterns on each individual network. Presented results are robust to variations of the strategy updating rule, the topology of interdependent networks, and the governing social dilemma, thus suggesting a high degree of universality

We detected in radial velocities evidence of a possible second planet with minimum mass m c sin i c = 5.8 ± 1.9 M ⊕ and orbital period P c = 5.21 - 0.22 + 0.26 years. The analysis of photometric data and spectro-scopic activity diagnostics does not explain the signal in terms of a stellar activity cycle, but follow-up is required in the coming years for confirming its planetary origin. We show that the existence of the planet can be ascertained, and its true mass can be determined with high accuracy, by combining Gaia astrometry and radial velocities. Proxima c could become a prime target for follow-up and characterization with next-generation direct imaging instrumentation due to the large maximum angular separation of ~1 arc second from the parent star. The candidate planet represents a challenge for the models of super-Earth formation and evolution.Peer reviewedFinal Published versio

    Gender and Responsible Gambling in Spain. The Social Gambling Questionnaire for Women (SGQW-47), a new screening instrument

    Objective: The aim of this study is to develop a questionnaire to assess responsible gambling habits in females of the general population, to explore its psychometric properties and to compare the results between a community sample and a clinical sample of patients with gambling disorder. We also aim at providing empirical evidence of the gambling habits among Spanish females. Method: Two samples were selected to develop the questionnaire and to explore gambling habits in female Spanish population. The clinical sample was recruited from the Pathological Gambling Unit at the University Hospital of Bellvitge (Barcelona, Spain), comprising 30 patients. The community sample was recruited from individuals visiting the hospital for the Dentistry and Chiropody Departments, placed at the same university hospital and it comprised 316 females. Results: The questionnaire showed high values for sensitivity and specificity, discriminating between patients with gambling disorder and healthy controls. More than a 3% of the females from the community sample presented a problematic gambling behavior. In relation to predictors of gambling behavior, low socioeconomic status emerged as the unique socio-demographic factor for problematic gambling. Moreover, the illusion of winning money through gambling or feeling better by gambling were powerful stimulators of gambling behavior. Conclusions: Despite being male is strongly associated with the development of problem gambling, females can also be considered "at risk gamblers" themselves. To explore gambling habits of this population, identifying potentially harmful behaviors, in order to maintain responsible gambling habits, may contribute to the development of prevention and education programs promoting the general health of the community

    El PAP de migración en Jalisco tiene como propósito trabajar con organizaciones que apoyan personas migrantes y refugiadas, promoviendo sus derechos y mejorando las condiciones de sus procesos. El equipo de incidencia, se enfoca en la creación de espacios de trabajo y discusión que tienen como objetivo incidir en los procesos de movilidad humana en el estado. Continúa con el trabajo del semestre de primavera para la mejora de la Propuesta Ley de Retorno así como la participación del equipo en el Ciclo de la Comunidad Solidaria. Retoma una propuesta del PRAMI de 2019 para crear jornadas de diálogo de Sociedad Civil con actores de gobierno y organizaciones. En este periodo era fundamental realizar una sesión de trabajo para la Propuesta de Ley de Retorno, apoyo de investigación para la comunidad solidaria y producir una propuesta inicial para las jornadas de diálogo. Elegimos enfocar la mayoría de los esfuerzos a la mejora de la Propuesta de Ley de Retorno debido a la presión de tiempo causada por el próximo periodo electoral. Paralelamente distintos integrantes del equipo realizaban actividades relacionadas a los otros proyectos. El equipo presenta cómo productos principales una lista de propuestas de mejora para la Propuesta Ley de Retorno, directorios de organizaciones que tratan el tema de movilidad humana en Jalisco, infografías para la Comunidad Solidaria y la propuesta inicial para las jornadas de diálogo las cuáles se llevarán a cabo en el periodo de Otoño de este PAP.ITESO, A.C
