How the utilised SOC window in commercial Li-ion pouch cells influence battery ageing

    Get PDF
In many lithium-ion battery (LIB) applications, e.g. hybrid vehicles and load-levelling storage systems, only part of the state-of-charge (SOC) range needs to be utilised. This offers the possibility to use an optimal SOC window to avoid LIB ageing. Here, a large test matrix is designed to study LIB ageing in a commercial 26 Ah pouch cell, in order to map the ageing behaviour at different SOC levels with respect to temperature and current. A quantification of the degradation modes, loss of lithium inventory (LLI), loss of active positive (LAM(PE)) and negative (LAM(NE)) electrode materials is made by analysing the change in the open circuit voltage (OCV). A key result is that lower SOC intervals significantly improved battery ageing. Even during harsh test conditions, such as high Crates and temperatures, the cells deliver more than three times the expected number of full cycle equivalents. High SOC combined with high C-rate increase ageing where the dominating ageing mechanisms are LLI, followed by LAM(PE)

Paid Sick Leave as a Means to Reduce Sickness Presenteeism Among Physicians

Recurrent international data show that physicians often attend work while ill, termed sickness presenteeism. The current study investigated if sickness presenteeism scores among European physicians varied according to national paid sick leave legislation. We hypothesized that prevalence of presenteeism was higher in countries with lower levels of paid sick leave. We used repeated cross-sectional survey data, phase I (2004/2005, N = 1326) and phase II (2012/2013, N = 1403), among senior consultants at university hospitals in Sweden, Norway, and Italy. Analyses of variances assessed cross-country differences in presenteeism. To assess the impact of country on presenteeism, we used multiple regression analyses controlled for sex, age, family status, work hours, and work content. The results from phase I supported the initial hypothesis. At phase II, presenteeism scores had decreased among the Italian and Swedish sample. The results are discussed with regard to changes in legislation on workhours and medical liability in Italy and Sweden between phase I and II

The bear in Eurasian plant names: Motivations and models

Ethnolinguistic studies are important for understanding an ethnic group's ideas on the world, expressed in its language. Comparing corresponding aspects of such knowledge might help clarify problems of origin for certain concepts and words, e.g. whether they form common heritage, have an independent origin, are borrowings, or calques. The current study was conducted on the material in Slavonic, Baltic, Germanic, Romance, Finno-Ugrian, Turkic and Albanian languages. The bear was chosen as being a large, dangerous animal, important in traditional culture, whose name is widely reflected in folk plant names. The phytonyms for comparison were mostly obtained from dictionaries and other publications, and supplemented with data from databases, the co-authors' field data, and archival sources (dialect and folklore materials). More than 1200 phytonym use records (combinations of a local name and a meaning) for 364 plant and fungal taxa were recorded to help find out the reasoning behind bear-nomination in various languages, as well as differences and similarities between the patterns among them. Among the most common taxa with bear-related phytonyms were Arctostaphylos uva-ursi (L.) Spreng., Heracleum sphondylium L., Acanthus mollis L., and Allium ursinum L., with Latin loan translation contributing a high proportion of the phytonyms. Some plants have many and various bear-related phytonyms, while others have only one or two bear names. Features like form and/or surface generated the richest pool of names, while such features as colour seemed to provoke rather few associations with bears. The unevenness of bear phytonyms in the chosen languages was not related to the size of the language nor the present occurence of the Brown Bear in the region. However, this may, at least to certain extent, be related to the amount of the historical ethnolinguistic research done on the selected languages

The free choice of upper secondary school? A study of the meaning of the information channels for the choice of upper secondary school Authors: David Fridner & Rikard Zeilon Mentor: Ingela Wadbring Questionnaire study Date: 2008-08-11 Abstract The choice of upper secondary school is a very important choice, both for the school and for the ninth grader. In Göteborg, the free choice of upper secondary school has generated several new information channels apart from the traditional counselor, daily news and the acquaintance. Today it is harder than ever to reach the pupil through the constant media noise and new forms of communication such as events appear. The fight for each pupil gets more and more important every term and it has now become real big business. Today’s youth is imprinted by a growing individuality and everyone knows that equableness is something very important. Sweden is one of the most equal countries in the whole world but still, does it matter if you are a boy or a girl when it comes to receiving and getting through all the information you obtain before the choice? An understanding about how ninth graders make their choice can only emerge when we do not get satisfied studying different information channels; we also have to study the receivers - the ninth graders. 15-year olds are on their way to become adults, but they stand with one foot on each side of the border. The individualization process is now at full speed and the ninth graders often revolt against their parents. However, the study shows that parents have a relatively big say in the choice of upper secondary school. In total matter between the diversely groups of ninth graders, parents are next after the number one element: the schools good reputation. The other information channels shown in the top five of all the 31 studied channels and elements are the two events “GymnasiemĂ€ssan” and “Öppet hus” out at the upper secondary schools, and the ninth graders friends. From all this we can see that direct contacts is the form of communication the ninth graders value as the most important ones. The results further tell us that girls more active search for information while boys, and especially the ones from the areas with the lowest resources, settle their choice much faster. One of the most interesting data from our study is that no single information channel has a major influence on which school the pupil will apply. Instead our survey indicates that the pupil listens to many different information channels before deciding rather than just depending on one or two

Title Greenlighted employees – The internal value of Schenker’s environmental work. Author David Fridner. Course Master thesis in Science of Media and Communication. Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Gothenburg. Semester Spring semester 2009. Tutor Professor Monika Djerf-Pierre. Number of pages 55 (appendix 23). Aim The aim is to study the internal value of Schenker’s environmental work. Method Qualitative and quantitative method. Material 20 interviews from four workgroups: managers (4), sales (5), customer-services (4) and truck drivers (7). 148 websurveys from two workgroups: sales (106) and customer-services (42). Main result Schenker is perceived as an environmentally friendly enterprise. Much due to the fact that the company’s impact on nature only has little to do with how the staff evaluate its “greenness”. The study reveals a customer oriented organizational culture focused on profitability. The environmental project ought to be designed with that in mind
