Momentum predictability in the frequency domain

In this dissertation I extend the analysis of Wang and Xu (2015) of momentum returns predictability to the frequency domain. The extensive literature on momentum has been essentially focused on what causes momentum, the description of momentum across industry sectors and countries and on its risk management. The very few works that addressed the topic of predictability of momentum returns, studied the role of investors psychological biases, market volatility and market liquidity but none of them exploited the frequency domain analysis of the predictors that have been used. I provide evidence that replacing the original predictors used in Wang and Xu (2015) by their frequency components delivers improved predictability

Relational navigation and archiving of multimedia information for contemporary dance

As the production of multimedia content such as photographs and videos becomes accessible to more people every year, so does the amount of digital content increase exponentially. Consequently, it becomes a hard task to create systems in order to provide efficient storing and browsing of multimedia content. Multimedia Web archives are one of the most popular solutions found for these issues. By providing organized and connected information storage with efficient browsing and social networking features, these systems become the main platforms used to store and share photographs and videos in the internet. This work is done in the scope of the TKB project: Transmedia Knowledge Base for Contemporary Dance and the goal of this thesis is to develop a system for multimedia information storage and relational content navigation. The analysis of multimedia archiving systems done throughout this thesis extends to those specific for Contemporary dance as it is one of the main focus of the work. The contents which will be integrated in the archive include typical multimedia information such as images and videos, as well as annotated videos exported from specific platforms. Connecting all the information within the archive through taxonomy and content hierarchy allows the definition of the intended relational approach. A abordagem dos fundamentos da educação na filosofia de Leonardo Coimbra implica a consideração dum vasto horizonte de núcleos temáticos. É nosso intento, neste breve estudo, demonstrar como a preocupação com a teoria e a prática educativa não foi acidental em relação às grandes linhas do pensamento do filósofo português. Tentaremos agora esclarecer até onde as teses pedagógicas de Leonardo são implicitamente decorrentes da própria noção criacionista de filosofia, do seu personalismo da convivência e da sua teoria da relevância espiritual da cultura e da civilização, virtualmente patente nas instituições. Finalmente, e de acordo com o que é o suposto fundamental do pensamento leonardino, mostraremos como toda a estrutura exposta só adquire plena legitimidade à luz do Infinito metafísico

Performance of cross-laminated timber walls. Hotel portuário em Sines

No âmbito do exercício proposto para Projeto Final de Arquitetura no Mestrado Integrado em Arquitetura (MIA) do ISCTE-IUL, foi desenvolvido, no ano lectivo 2015/2016, o presente trabalho, para o «Concurso Universidades» integrado na programação da Trienal de Arquitetura de Lisboa 2016, com o tema «Sines – Industria e Estrutura Portuária». Pretendeu-se com este trabalho explorar a estratégia de desenvolvimento de Portugal, refletindo sobre o papel de Sines na Europa e no mundo. O elevado potencial de Sines no crescimento económico do País é indiscutível, mas existem múltiplas possibilidades capazes de satisfazer este objetivo. Por essa razão foi necessário explorar as múltiplas articulações possíveis desde a escala do território às do projeto de arquitetura dos edifícios e vice-versa. O resultado desta investigação é apresentado demonstrando as várias possibilidades consideradas, no sentido de encontrar uma estratégia de intervenção em que a definição do Espaço Público cumpre a sua função estruturante do território

Gestão de propostas de formação avançada no sistema Fenix

Trabalho de Projeto, Engenharia Informática (Arquitetura, Sistemas e Redes de Computadores), 2022, Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de CiênciasThe management of the initial processes of the advanced formation work related to the final stage of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd cycle courses consists in the creation of propo nents, the creation of proposals by said proponents, the approval of said proposals, the student choice of the proposals in which they have interest, and finally the assignment of a proposal to a student. This initial management process is often done manually and relies on the academic services of each school, without computing support to assist them. Furthermore, this manual process management is quite time-consuming, even for smaller schools, and in certain cases can lead to delays at the beginning of the advanced formation work. To overcome this difficulty, some schools and departments, namely the Informatics Department of the Faculty of Science of the University of Lisbon, created their own sys tem (PEIpal/CuCo) which allows for the computerization of this process. However, this system only solves the problem related to the specifications of this department. The schools at the University of Lisbon use an academic management system called Fenix. To allow the managing of the previously described processes by a common mech anism, it makes sense to offer a new tool capable of solving this problem as part of the Fenix system. As such, a model was developed for the management of proposals for ad vanced formation work, a model for the management process for the candidacy of said proposals, based on the procedures in use in some schools. To support both models, a module that allows the management of proposals and candidacies was developed. This module allows each school, department, course, or other component of the University of Lisbon’s organic structure, to have the ability to create their own process models (work flow) in order to meet their academic need

Social Comparison and Perceived Breach of Psychological Contract: Their Effects on Burnout in a Multigroup Analysis

This study focuses on the mediator role of social comparison in the relationship between perceived breach of psychological contract and burnout. A previous model showing the hypothesized effects of perceived breach on burnout, both direct and mediated, is proposed. The final model reached an optimal fit to the data and was confirmed through multigroup analysis using a sample of Spanish teachers (N = 401) belonging to preprimary, primary, and secondary schools. Multigroup analyses showed that the model fit all groups adequatelyEste estudio se centra en el papel de la comparación social en la relación entre la ruptura percibida del contrato psicológico y el burnout. Se propone un modelo previo mostrando los efectos hipotetizados, tanto directos como mediados, de la ruptura percibida sobre el burnout. El modelo final alcanzó un ajuste óptimo a los datos y se confirmó a través del análisis multigrupo usando una muestra de profesores españoles (N = 401) pertenecientes a escuelas infantiles, primarias y secundarias.
