    UV Index monitoring in Europe

    No full text
The UV Index was established more than 20 years ago as a tool for sun protection and health care. Shortly after its introduction, UV Index monitoring started in several countries either by newly acquired instruments or by converting measurements from existing instruments into the UV Index. The number of stations and networks has increased over the years. Currently, 160 stations in 25 European countries deliver online values to the public via the Internet. In this paper an overview of these UV Index monitoring sites in Europe is given. The overview includes instruments as well as quality assurance and quality control procedures. Furthermore, some examples are given about how UV Index values are presented to the public. Through these efforts, 57% of the European population is supplied with high quality information, enabling them to adapt behaviour. Although health care, including skin cancer prevention, is costeffective, a proportion of the European population still doesn’t have access to UV Index information

Accessing the strong interaction between Λ\Lambda baryons and charged kaons with the femtoscopy technique at the LHC

International audienceThe interaction between Λ\Lambda baryons and kaons/antikaons is a crucial ingredient for the strangeness S=0S=0 and S=2S=-2 sector of the meson--baryon interaction at low energies. In particular, the ΛK\Lambda{\mathrm{\overline{K}}} might help in understanding the origin of states such as the Ξ(1620)\Xi\mathrm{(1620)}, whose nature and properties are still under debate. Experimental data on Λ\Lambda-K{\mathrm{K}} and Λ\Lambda-K{\mathrm{\overline{K}}} systems are scarce, leading to large uncertainties and tension between the available theoretical predictions constrained by such data. In this Letter we present the measurements of Λ\Lambda-K+Λ^+\oplus \overline{\Lambda}-K^- and Λ\Lambda-KΛ^-\oplus \overline{\Lambda}-K+^+ correlations obtained in the high-multiplicity triggered data sample in pp collisions at s=13\sqrt{s}=13 TeV recorded by ALICE at the LHC. The correlation function for both pairs is modeled using the Lednicky-Lyuboshits analytical formula and the corresponding scattering parameters are extracted. The Λ\Lambda-KΛ^-\oplus \overline{\Lambda}-K+^+ correlations show the presence of several structures at relative momenta kk^* above 200 MeV/cc, compatible with the Ω\Omega baryon, the Ξ(1690)\Xi\mathrm{(1690)}, and Ξ(1820)\Xi\mathrm{(1820)} resonances decaying into Λ\Lambda-K^- pairs. The low kk^* region in the Λ\Lambda-KΛ^-\oplus \overline{\Lambda}-K+^+ also exhibits the presence of the Ξ(1620)\Xi\mathrm{(1620)} state, expected to strongly couple to the measured pair. The presented data allow to access the Λ\LambdaK+^+ and Λ\LambdaK^- strong interaction with an unprecedented precision and deliver the first experimental observation of the Ξ(1620)\Xi\mathrm{(1620)} decaying into Λ\LambdaK^-
