Older men learning in the community : European snapshots

https://www.um.edu.mt/library/oar//handle/123456789/1780The learning partnership on older men learning was primarily an opportunity for researchers from different countries to establish a path for a future common understanding of the interface between masculinities and older adult learning, taking as our point of departure our determination to focus on the role of community and informal learning settings in the lives of older men. Project leaders decided not to take a rigid approach to or engage in a unified coordination of the cases being studied. Basically, each partner decided freely which approaches were best suited to each context. Sometimes driven by curiosity and sometimes by our desire to learn more about the relatively unknown locations of leaning for older men learning in our own countries, we considered diversity to be of outmost importance in our exploratory attitude towards a field of inquiry as of yet almost completely unexplored.peer-reviewe
El triángulo mágico : escuela, familia y comunidad en una intervención con jóvenes de contextos sociales desfavorecidos
En este artículo se presenta un estudio de casos llevado a cabo en la zona serrana de la región del
Algarbe, Portugal. Se intenta comprender algunos aspectos del trabajo educativo con jóvenes de un
medio social desfavorecido. Se plantea que los patrones de cambio cultural que han emergido pueden
ser parcialmente explicados por un trabajo coordinado entre una diversidad de agentes educativos,
que han buscado nuevas formas de diálogo. De esta forma, las relaciones entre familia, escuela y
comunidad parecen fundamentales para producir cambios positivos en el trabajo educativo.__________________________________
In this paper we present a case studies research done in the mountainous area of the region of Algarve,
Portugal. In it we try to understand some dimensions of the educational work concerning children of
a clearly deprived social context. We sustain that the patterns of cultural change which have emerged
can be partially explained by the coordinated work between a diversity of educational agents, who
have searched new ways to dialogue. That being, the relationships between family, school and community
seem fundamental to produce positive changes in educational work

A minimum cross entropy model to generate disaggregated agricultural data at the local level
This work presents an entropy approach to disaggregate agricultural data at a local level. It comprises two different steps. In a first one, an information prior at disaggregated level based on experts’ opinions, available cartography of land use and biophysical data is created. In a second step, it’s used a minimum cross entropy process in order to manage these information inputs and to guaranty a solution compatible with all the different restrictions. The model was applied to the region of Algarve in the year of 1999, in order to disaggregate the data at the pixel and county level. Results show that the model was able to provide some satisfactory results since the estimated values obtained for the different areas revealed a good approximation to the true values. El sistema nacional para el reconocimiento, la validación y la certificación de competencias para adultos: descripción del centro Lagoa (Portugal)
En 2001 se creó en Portugal un sistema nacional para el reconocimiento, la validación y la certificación de competencias (RVCC) para adultos. El principal supuesto de este sistema era que un elevado número de personas eran bastante competentes en sus trabajos, pero no poseían títulos oficiales. Su principal fuente de aprendizaje no había sido, por tanto, la educación escolar, sino una multitud de contextos y experiencias informales. La idea era que este aprendizaje experiencial podía obtener una certificación. El principal instrumento del proceso de RVCC es un marco nacional de competencias clave, que se dividen en cuatro áreas: lengua y comunicación; matemáticas esenciales; ciudadanía y empleabilidad, y tecnologías de la información y la comunicación. Las personas que desean obtener una certificación
de sus competencias pueden inscribirse en uno de los centros que gradualmente se han ido creando para este fin en Portugal. Con la ayuda de equipos pedagógicos, los usuarios pueden demostrar que poseen las competencias definidas en el marco.Peer Reviewe
