Using FTT-CAN to the Flexible Control of Bus Redundancy and Bandwidth Usage
DETIController Area Network (CAN) is a popular and very well-known bus system, both in
academia and in industry, initially targeted to automotive applications as a single
digital bus to replace the wiring that were growing complexity, weight and cost with
the advent of new automotive appliances. However, requirements have evolved and
CAN’s dependability and bandwidth limitations led to the emergence of alternative
networks such as FlexRay and TTP/C. Nevertheless, we believe that it is possible to
improve CAN so it could fulfill contemporary requirements. This paper proposes the
use of Flexible Time-Triggered CAN (FTT-CAN) to increase the available bandwidth
while providing fault tolerance in CAN based systems with multiple buses. The
architecture and flexibility of FTT based systems enables a tight yet flexible control of
redundancy and bandwidth usage without increasing the complexity of the nodes. In
this novel solution, a FTT-CAN Master controls the dispatching of messages among a
set of independent buses. The Master can react online to bus failures switching the
transmission of critical messages to a non-faulty bus, always keeping a predetermined
redundancy level
Flexible Bus Media Redundancy
DETIThis paper proposes a flexible approach to bus media
redundancy in Controller Area Network (CAN) fieldbuses,
both to improve the bandwidth by transmitting different
traffic in different channels or to promote redundancy by
transmitting the same message in more than one channel.
Specifically the proposed solution is discussed in the context
of Flexible Time-Triggered protocol over CAN (FTTCAN)
and inherits the online scheduling flexibility of FTTCAN,
enabling on-the-fly modifications of the traffic conveyed
in the replicated buses. Flexible bus media redundancy
is useful to fulfill application requirements in terms
of additional bandwidth or to react to bus failures leading
the system to a degraded operational mode, without compromising
safety. The arguments for and against flexible
bus media redundancy in the context of FTT-CAN are also
discussed in detail
T follicular regulatory cells in human adaptive immunity and autoimmunity
Tese de doutoramento, Medicina (Imunologia), Universidade de Lisboa, Faculdade de Medicina, 2018Germinal centres (GC) are formed during adaptive immune responses to defend our body against invading pathogens. During GC reactions antigen-specific high-affinity antibodies are produced through an intricated T – B cell crosstalk. In the last decades, the identification of a T cell subset specialized in controlling GC reactions, the T follicular helper (Tfh) cells, was a major scientific breakthrough. Within GCs, Tfh cells support B cell affinity maturation and class switch recombination. In addition, T follicular regulatory (Tfr) cells were recently described as GC regulators. Tfr cells are derived from thymic Foxp3+ Treg cells and undergo a still poorly defined, Bcl-6-dependent, multistep differentiation pathway within secondary lymphoid tissues.« Throughout this process, Tfr cells enforce tolerance and limit autoantibody-mediated autoimmune diseases by regulating Tfh – GC B cell interactions. Although the biology of human blood and tissue Tfh cells has been established, the biology and ontogeny of human blood Tfr cells, defined as CXCR5+Foxp3+ T cells, still remains elusive. This work focused on Tfr cells in human adaptive immunity and autoimmunity. We have shown that human blood CXCR5+Foxp3+ Treg cells constitute a circulating counterpart of GC bona fide tissue Tfr cells. Indeed, those blood Tfr cells increase after the induction of GC responses by vaccination, and they are absent from human umbilical cord blood, where non-maternal foreign antigens are not present. However, blood Tfr cells are immature cells which fail to fully regulate humoral responses, suggesting these cells are not fully competent Tfr cells. To address the biological significance of blood Tfr cells in autoimmunity, we studied patients with a systemic autoimmune disease (Sjögren’s syndrome) characterized by abnormal generation of autoantibodies within lymphoid structures ectopically formed in exocrine glands. Unexpectedly, Sjögren’s syndrome patients had a striking increase in blood Tfr cells, as well as an increase in blood Tfr/Tfh ratio. In addition, we established the relationship between blood Tfr and Tfh cells and abnormal immune responses in the target organ of an autoimmune disease. Patients with ectopic lymphoid structures in their salivary glands had the highest blood Tfr/Tfh ratio, suggesting this ratio may be a novel biomarker of ectopic lymphoid activity in Sjögren syndrome. Autoimmunity of follicular origin poses a considerable clinical challenge. Following the discovery of Tfr cells as GC “fine tune” regulators, targeting Tfr cell responses may constitute a novel and highly selective approach for the treatment of autoantibody-mediated autoimmune diseases.
The virtual token-passing Ethernet implementation and experimental results
This paper presents the design and first experimental results of VTPE (Virtual Token-passing Ethernet). VTPE \nis a deterministic protocol for real-time applications based on shared Ethernet, aimed to be used either in small \nprocessing power processors or in powerful ones. It is based on implicit token rotation similar to the virtual \ntoken-passing used in the P-NET protocol. The VTPE implementation leads to reduced program code, thus \nfitting in small microcontrollers' memory and imposing low communication overhead. \
Using java language for control algorithms
constrained resources devices used often in embedded systems are normally
programmed using languages considered of low level. This has important implications in
program development and maintenance. In fact, the code becomes less legible and the
memory management in not an easy task. This problem can be overcome if the use of a
high level language with garbage collector mechanism is considered. However, it is often
a belief that from these high level languages results slowly programs, and so, they are
unsuitable for embedded applications. In this paper this problem is addressed to show the
applicability of Java to develop programs for constrained resources devices. An example
of a control system for temperature control is presented to illustrate the advantages of the
approach
A educação sob o domínio da sociedade capitalista!/ Education under the domination of capitalist society!
Symmetry breaking, Josephson oscillation and self-trapping in a self-bound three-dimensional quantum ball
We study spontaneous symmetry breaking (SSB), Josephson oscillation, and
self-trapping in a stable, mobile, three-dimensional matter-wave spherical
quantum ball self-bound by attractive two-body and repulsive three-body
interactions. The SSB is realized by a parity-symmetric (a) one-dimensional
(1D) double-well potential and (b) a 1D Gaussian potential, both along the
axis and no potential along the and axes. In the presence of each of
these potentials, the symmetric ground state dynamically evolves into a
doubly-degenerate SSB ground state. If the SSB ground state in the double well,
predominantly located in the first well (), is given a small displacement,
the quantum ball oscillates with a self-trapping in the first well. For a
medium displacement one encounters an asymmetric Josephson oscillation. The
asymmetric oscillation is a consequence of SSB. The study is performed by a
variational and numerical solution of a non-linear mean-field model with 1D
parity-symmetric perturbations

is that the system has a short learning curve and can
cope with the requirements of its potential users
